@@ThriftDiving I've built a couple tables, some cabinets, and a bench. My house is a typical cheap tract house from the sixties, so a lot of my projects involve improving the house. I spent all summer redoing the porch. It went from yuck to gorgeous!

I find it funny that some men couldn't care less about tools, but we women salivate over them. LOL
That was truly a well earned jump for joy! I always appreciate that you show and tell it like it is. Mistakes and oopses and all. Thank you for being real. It's been my experience, married for 46 years now, that men require more pats on the back than women (Oh, wow, you did SUCH a great job washing the dishes!!). Then they give a "it looks nice" after you've worked for weeks to get your project just right. lol oh well, what can you do? Outstanding job, Serena. I can't wait to see what you'll do with the other side, especially now that you've learned from your first effort.
It looks great and really professional of course. This was very interesting to see all that goes into closet units from just plywood. And all those cool gadgets!
Thanks, Missy! I hadn't watched many videos on it before I did it. So I don't think I really knew, either. The tools were fun to buy because I kept discovering things that would make the job easier. Next time I am going to buy this tool called a Festool domino. It is VERY expensive but is the mercedes benz of tools when it comes to joining wood together. It aligns them perfectly and there is no sanding like what I had to do with the pocket holes. I'm going to splurge and buy it as an early birthday/Christmas present for myself, and use it for the next 2 pieces. So it will be interesting to see how much faster and more professional it will look with this fun new gadget! :)
You did an amazing job. I especially love how you always include the things that go wrong. I hate watching a perfect home improvement show and then when you try to emulate it you run into issues that a show may have chosen not to show and that's frustrating. Anyway, I'm constantly impressed with all your designs. Your closet looks amazing. I can't wait to see what you do with the other side of it.
Thank you!! Life isn't perfect and I definitely won't show you a mirage of anything perfect with this channel..it doesn't exist. 😆 Glad you liked the closet!!
Wow! Just wow!!! You never cease to impress! I think you might have found yourself a new side hustle too! You can come practice on my closet any time! Haha I would encourage you to look into Marie Kondos method of folding to maximize space and find things a whole lot easier! Random, but I’m calling it! One day you’re going to build a tiny house!
You are right about the tiny house! I am building up to build my own shed soon! I was debating between just buying one and building one, and I really think I want the challenge of building one! :) As for Marie Kondo, YES! I read her book in '16 and from then on, I always fold my clothes with her method and it WORKS. My drawers never got messy again! (Well, a little messy, but I stick with the stack side-by-side method!) Thank you, crass!!
You are a courageous diy warriorwoman❣️. That is a huge project to do on your own...working in a small space ...surrounded by the stuff from the space and even carrying the heavy wood...lots of challenges ...well done!
Thank you, Jacqui! I'm glad that I was able to convey the gravity of the project through my video! It was tough, but soooo rewarding. Thank you for watching!
Hey Serena, You did it! I remember the wallpaper removal video for that closet and felt your pain as I was removing wallpaper from my bathroom. WOW girl it looks GREAT!!!! I can't wait to see the rest of it.
That is AMAZING!!!❤🖌❤ I just bought a 1942 home and the renovations I'll be doing makes me so happy. I'm sure at times I'll be kicking myself, but like you said, learn as you go.
Congrats on your house! Enjoy those renovations. It's a lot of fun seeing the progress! I like listening to talk radio or watching my favorite sit-coms while I work. It's so relaxing!
I appreciate it, Michele! You know, I was thinking as I was working on this project, I have learned so much over the years. But even so, there is always more to learn and it's so exciting to challenge yourself on a project you haven't done before! It's very empowering!
I'm so glad you did the collab video with Erin from Impatient Gardener!!! I've only been able to watch a few of your videos so far, but I'm totally digging your channel. Fantastic job!!! 🙂🙂 I really like that you tell us your mistakes, when you aren't satisfied with your work, when a job is bigger than what you thought, etc. It makes you more relatable. Other RUclipsrs just edit their videos to be perfect. I appreciate the lessons learned and reflection parts of your videos.
I couldn't imagine frontin' like it is all seamless and perfect! Most of the projects I do are ones that I'm doing for the first time so as a newbie doing that project, there's a lot that I learn. I love sharing what I learn! :) Thanks for the positive feedback!!
Girl you did a super job making that closet! I can't imagine all the hard physical work you did plus the mental calculations! So glad glad you showed how you handled each problem you encountered, cause we all make mistakes and it's so much harder to avoid them with such a big project!👏💗😀
HAHAHA!!! You see my reaction--I was like What!!! Wait, I caught that on camera! Because a few days before he got on me about changing it, telling me I was cutting into his space, that it looked better "before" and that there was nothing wrong with the way it was. But once I put some clothes in it, FINALLY, the light struck. I think some people just don't have the same kind of creative vision and only after it's done can they see the value in the change. He is one of those people. He does NOT like change, so anything I do to change things up worries him a little, until he sees how it looks afterwards. LOL
@@tinekejoldersma HAHA, we have been together for 25 years, so he knows me through and through (and I know him). So I know when I get a compliment about something being "nice" it's a HUGE deal! LOL
I admire your DIY skills, and your ambition with your projects. I redid some fun closets myself in a loft, and under a stairway, however, I stripped them down and painted them (fun colors) then had CA Closets come in to do the actual closet installs. BTW-I also tried to cut a pretty thick metal 1” curtain rod with a hack saw with a blade made for metal cutting, and could not complete it. Took it to my father, and he used a little tool that is used to cut pipe. He just hooked it onto the 1” rod and the two little round “blades” on each end etched/cut into the metal rod as he rotated the tool around several times until the two sides separated. All I had to do was file down the ends so they were not sharp. I always thought I did a lot as a woman, but you are amazing with all your gumption and knowledge! Kudos!
I'm amazed at your talent, and extreme work ethic. Bravo, this adds so much value to your home. As a loyal viewer I appreciate all of the hard work that has gone into putting out this type off content.
Thank you SO much!! You know, it's funny that you use the words "extreme work ethic." When I was growing up, I always took the easy road whenever possible. I was always described as having "potential" but I never pushed myself often. But I found that when I pushed myself, I usually excelled. But it didn't happen often. So, to be in my element, doing something that makes me happy, feels wonderful. I strive to do the best I can possibly do when it comes to creativity. And I love learning along the way. Thank you for pointing this out and allowing me to see that I'm not the same mediocre-effort person as I used to be! :)
@@ThriftDiving I don't see anything mediocre, you're just excellent from what I see. Teachers are evolving to understand that we all have totally unique skills/intelligence. It's not one size fits all in terms of skill sets. You're blessed because your skills translate into a job you love.

Thank you, Shirley! I know...it takes SO long to do some projects, and then I get pulled into other side projects, that I don't get to upload as often as I would like to! But I appreciate you being here and supporting me!!
You go girl! I love your willingness to tackle any project. And on your own! I have learned so much watching your videos. And thank you for sharing your tips and products for those of us starting to struggle with the dreaded signs of aging. Yikes!
Yes, the aging! I was thinking, I still want to do these things into my 50s and 60s. So I want to find those products now so we will all be ready, if we're not already there now! Lol
Looks fantastic Serena. Our walk-in closet needs reorganising/new shelving etc as the original fittings were not very well thought out to make efficient use of the space. We will probably end up using IKEA units or something similar to fit ours out. Hope you are all safe and well. x
Excellent video and narration. Your inclusion of the mistakes and unexpected hick-ups make all the difference to those of us who’d otherwise avoid a project like this out of fear. You took it on, and reported back. I think I can try dados and pocket holes now. Thanks 👌
That is amazing. You are amazing. Oh my goodness me! I can't even...I'm so impressed by your soldiering through this and learning so much and giving us the benefit of the lessons. And it looks divine. I was thinking...hmmmm?....when you said you would leave the boards bare, but you were so right. The whole fitout looks elegant and sophisticated - what it looks is classic and timeless. Also, that will be the sort of walk in people will love if you ever sell on your home. Thank you for sharing your epic journey.
Thanks for the transparency. I've been thinking about doing something similar. Hope I can get it done within the next 6 months. Thanks for documenting the "oops" moments. Great work, Serena!
Absolutely wonderful work. So glad you got a track saw and dust collection system. Makes a huge difference. Next you need to built a big workshop. I guess when you finish your contractor course.
LOL, you were so right about that track saw, Letty! I have been wanting one for awhile, but once I started this project, I was like, "What the heck am I doing?! Get the right tools, Serena!" I still need to order some tracks. And I am thinking of buying a Festool domino joiner so that I can join the wood without pocket holes. It's an expensive investment into a whole new brand, but it's worth it. And yes, I need a new workshop! I am actually hoping that when I buy my investment property, that is the one I'll fix up! Thanks, Letty!
You are a CRAZY WOMAN👍🏻👏🏻😉!! Amazing!! I didn’t know you had woodworking talents!! This is sooo impressive!! Plus, I listened to 1 of your Podcasts(Whimsy Chairs), it was fantastic - you are a genuinely great hostess! I love your style!! Congratulations!!!

Girl, you killed it with this! I just did a custom closet for my son and MAN there was a lot of learning as I went but it turned out so good. Keep building!
You did such a good job! You are really going to enjoy using your new space, even if it is in your closet, lol. I'll bet, when it's all done, that you will catch yourself just going back in there and looking at it. A completed job, well done, can bring so much joy. Thanks for sharing this process with us, mistakes and all, because we all make them. 😅
Well said, Sharon! I woke up this morning and went and checked it out again. :) HAHA. I absolutely love and am glad I didn't shy away from the nerves of building something quite so large. It all came together nicely and gave me the confidence to soon start designing the shed I want to build!
That was a lot of work but the finished project looks amazing. And now you have learned even more tips and tricks that will help when you finish the closet. (Eagerly awaiting that video!)
It's a' comin'! I am going to start on it next week! I have to head back into SketchUp to plan it, but that won't take very long now that I know how to use the program.
Wow! Great job, and it does look so good. I am overwhelmed by an upcoming wallpapering job (never done it before) so I made a list of all the things that would need to be done, as I thought of them, and then put them in the right order. No doubt it will change but it helped me build a process I think I can manage x
Wow!!! This is fantastic. Can't wait to see it all done. My closet sucks...It's one of those with the sliding wood doors so you have a hard time with stuff in the middle. And it has doors for storage above it. When I originally bought my house and painted, the doors never fit right so I never did put them on...they are just open. I thought I would just remove the large, heavy sliding doors and put them in the garage, and then just add a curtain over the space. You give us some hope. Thank you for sharing the good, the bad and the ugly with us....well, no really ugly stuff... ; )
Fantastic job! You managed to contain so beautifully all the little things that did not go well. And it was your first try at a “bigger” build too. The closet looks gorg now. Love your channel and your projects. Yout hubby is a very lucky man to have you ;) Big love from Sardinia, Italy.
Been following for a while. & wow its crazy to see how much you've improved. Here i was thinking I was doing ok bc I finally got a few power tools of my own and have tackled a few small/medium projects.. k I'll do better. Congrats, love what you've done so far
For all the new tools you purchased, I can't believe you didn't get a pipe cutter. Would've made that hacksaw job much easier. Love the transformation. Brilliant job.
I know! I honestly didn't think about it until I got to that part and just wanted to finish it. It said just use a hack saw and I went looking for mine. I have an angle grinder which would have slices right through it, but I didn't want to deal with the sparks. I'm going to get me a pipe cutter. I only have small pipe cutters I have used for copper tubing. Glad to always have a reason to buy more tools!
You did THAT, Sis💯 I love your Channel/Projects. You always do a great job of talking us through your thkught processes & you offer really good tips to help us avoid making mistakes.

I find it funny that some men couldn't care less about tools, but we women salivate over them. LOL
Damn girl! You’re a BADASS! I thought I was good with carpentry but you killed this! BRAVO SISTER!!!
Your singing is actually amazing! You are no where near aweful
You did great! You are fearless and competent. Love your moxie.
Susta!! So proud of you. You give me hope to finish my granddaughter's dresser and room. Congratulations!! Martha
Perfect timing!couldn't click fast enough!!Girl their is nothing you can't do 👍🙏🏻💖
HAHAHA, I'm sure there are! But I'm one who, despite fears, will tackle it head on! :) Thank you so much, Maria!!
@@ThriftDiving omg I’ve been waiting for this it’s been so longgggg love your channel.
@@BrooklynBaby25 YAY!!! Glad I could FINALLY deliver! Stay tuned because the other pieces are coming soon!
@@ThriftDiving can’t wait 😁
That was truly a well earned jump for joy! I always appreciate that you show and tell it like it is. Mistakes and oopses and all. Thank you for being real. It's been my experience, married for 46 years now, that men require more pats on the back than women (Oh, wow, you did SUCH a great job washing the dishes!!). Then they give a "it looks nice" after you've worked for weeks to get your project just right. lol oh well, what can you do? Outstanding job, Serena. I can't wait to see what you'll do with the other side, especially now that you've learned from your first effort.
Love it, great job as always!
I applaud you for tackling such a project. Nicely done and narrated. Thank you for sharing your experience.
@@ThriftDiving I had to look that up. It looks like one of Norm's tools from New Yankee.
I’m pretty handy, but NOTHING compared to you and your patience. I hire. Great job!
So sweet to hear your hubby say that 🥰 It looks awesome.
Girl you created a built in for your closet 🙂 that was just to much for me to take in. You're freaking awesome 👍🏽
Awww, I'm so happy you like it!! Thank you, girl!
Wow! Just wow!!! You never cease to impress! I think you might have found yourself a new side hustle too! You can come practice on my closet any time! Haha
I would encourage you to look into Marie Kondos method of folding to maximize space and find things a whole lot easier!
I can’t believe it’s been a year! I love how it turned out.
It looks great Sarina! 😊 So good to see you again; have missed you sharing your projects, but excited for the opportunities you have had going on 🥰
Hey Serena, You did it! I remember the wallpaper removal video for that closet and felt your pain as I was removing wallpaper from my bathroom. WOW girl it looks GREAT!!!! I can't wait to see the rest of it.
Love it ...thanks for empowering us women with your diy skills, help from a man is also great to have got the hard bits. Closet looks lovely.
Yeah, get it done girl! I love doing this stuff to and the Sense of accomplishment on a project this large is just awesome.
You did a phenomenal job! I am so very impressed with your creativity and ability!
I appreciate it, Michele! You know, I was thinking as I was working on this project, I have learned so much over the years. But even so, there is always more to learn and it's so exciting to challenge yourself on a project you haven't done before! It's very empowering!
Dang girl...is there anything you can't do? Closet goals! Wonderful project...so far. Looking forward to the next part of the makeover.
Serena, what an effort! It turned out great. I am so proud of you!
I'm so glad you did the collab video with Erin from Impatient Gardener!!! I've only been able to watch a few of your videos so far, but I'm totally digging your channel. I love thrifting and I've come across so many pieces that needed a makeover, but I didn't even really know where to start.. Well.. I found the perfect channel!! I just love your vibe and your excitement for the outcome of these projects. Thanks for doing what you do!!
EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT EXCELLENT JOB!!!! I knew you wouldn't disappoint. I love how you always tell us what NOT to do. Thank you, This was worth the wait. I'm so proud of you! 💝💖💞

Well done, and with your own two hands!!! This hard time is teaching us, what we are abble to do. 🤗🌻🌹🌷🌸🌺looks like a store👏👏👏👏👏love to see what follows😊😊
That space looks so much bigger now.
Good job. I wish you live near me I have small projects with no one to help me.
Every time I see one of your videos.
"Why is she sooo pretty?"
"Why is she so smart?"
"Why is she so clever?"
"Why does every project come out so awesome?"
"Damn, she's got a lot of nice tools!"
😱😱😱 😭😭😭 🥰🥰🥰 🌹🌹🌹
Thanks for sharing. This was incredible. GREAT JOB!
That looks amazing, can’t wait to see the rest, it makes the room look so much more spacious, amazing! Well done. 👍🙌
She thought she could so she did. And did you ever! Great job!
Thank you, Marguerite!! :) My next big project MUST be a shed, then. I mean....I have to up the ante, right? :) LOL Thank you!
Way to go! Looks great. This looks so similar to what my husband built for our mud room. Maple also with a natural finish. Timeless!
It looks fabulous, I am very impressed that you used power tools like a pro. Good for you. Can't wait for part two. Judy
Girl you did a super job making that closet! I can't imagine all the hard physical work you did plus the mental calculations! So glad glad you showed how you handled each problem you encountered, cause we all make mistakes and it's so much harder to avoid them with such a big project!👏💗😀
Thank you, Janet!!
“It looks nice” ... I wonder how long he suffered for that comment 😂
LOL
@@ThriftDiving It's that, he doesn't like change. And then he married you XD
@@tinekejoldersma HAHA, we have been together for 25 years, so he knows me through and through (and I know him). So I know when I get a compliment about something being "nice" it's a HUGE deal! LOL
@@ThriftDiving That sounds soooo good
He was being kind...
Serena, you are fricken Amazing. Your talents, patience and problem solving skills are nrilliant. Wonderful job xx
Great food for thought. Everyone's closet needs are similar, but different. Love the start. Can't wait to see you get on the rest of it.
WOW!!!!! EXCITING AMAZINGLY CRAFTED !!! lady Serena 😁 you are a true diva with who uses tools, I just love the step by step voice over
I love how you took your time planned the build and finished.. your a cool women 😁 you don't mind showing your mistakes so we all can learn the correct way .I appreciate you mentioning the name of the wood glue I may need to purchase one day 😊 I'm cheesin from ear to ear celebrating with you. I enjoyed all your projects lady I admire your passion in all your diy I'm motivated to keep pushing with my projects
THANK YOU!!! 😁💜
Thank you so much, Ms Ann!!
Awesome in everyway, creative, motivational &energetic! So blessed to have those traits!
Thank you so much!! :) It means a lot to me!
May I say, it looks absolutely amazing!! You are one very talented person/DIY! I would never have the nerve or gumption to tackle a project like that.. Your husband is a man of few words, reminds me of mine. It looks nice equates to wow! Great job!
I miss your videos. Happy to see you complete your closet. Cannot wait to see the next video
Thank you, Shirley! I know...it takes SO long to do some projects, and then I get pulled into other side projects, that I don't get to upload as often as I would like to! But I appreciate you being here and supporting me!!
Huge huge respect sister, love from Ireland. Make sure you take a timeout treat for yourself. 🍀🙌
Lol
I'm so impressed! Your research, effort, 'wo'manpower and creativity paid off!! Go girl!
I'm in love with your voice and sure that your children like to listen it❤️
Looks fantastic Serena.
Thanks 👌
Woohoo! Yes, you can do them! Part of the fun, actually, is working through the small mistakes and being able to conquer them!
This closet is amazing and i believe very steady. Well done. I still want to see the kitchen makeover🤣🤣🤣🤣😍😍😍😍
Wonderful how it turned out! Even got the hubby's nod of approval. Win win.. lol 😊💜
Thank you so much!! I have thought about that too, if we ever sell, this will be a huge upgrade! So glad you like it!!
Thanks for the transparency. I've been thinking about doing something similar. Hope I can get it done within the next 6 months. Thanks for documenting the "oops" moments. Great work, Serena!
Worth the wait Serena! This was great.
So glad you like it, Angel! :)
Nice. Looking forward to seeing storage ideas for back and side walls.
Sister Girl, you are AHHHMAZING!!! I Love your whole outlook on things. You do great work, keep on inspiring us. Thank you so much❤️❤️❤️
Always inspiring and motivating to see you in the shop tackling new DIY projects!! Will share this video too !! Shalom James
Best 20 minutes ever!! I love it! Great job!!
You are a CRAZY WOMAN👍🏻👏🏻😉!! Amazing!! I didn’t know you had woodworking
talents!! This is sooo impressive!! Plus, I listened to 1 of your Podcasts(Whimsy Chairs), it was fantastic - you are a genuinely great hostess! I love your style!! Congratulations!!!
Absolutely fearless, very inspiring, ive been trying to paint my wood work in the living room, made a dogs dinner of it, learning a lot, keep going this is amazing to watch, love it, plus i like that you show mistakes and lessons learned, really good, thanks
Girl, you killed it with this! I just did a custom closet for my son and MAN there was a lot of learning as I went but it turned out so good. Keep building!
wow, just wow. That looks great! I am jealous of your tool collection.
That's exactly right!! I think the more time spent planning will make the job SO much easier. You can do this! I wish you the best of luck!!
Thank you for sharing the good, the bad and the ugly with us....well, no really ugly stuff... ; )
Girl you’re Good ..... Keep it going sista you’re encouraging me
Turned out beautifully! Great job! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Serena you're amazing! I loved this, great job and glad the hubby loved it.
Fantastic job! You managed to contain so beautifully all the little things that did not go well. And it was your first try at a “bigger” build too. The closet looks gorg now. Love your channel and your projects. Yout hubby is a very lucky man to have you ;) Big love from Sardinia, Italy.
Beautiful ❤❤❤
You did amazing job👍
Can't wait until you finish the other side of the closest
Congrats on a job well done Serena.👏👏👏
Looks so great! Congratulations on a super successful project!! Can’t wait to see the rest!
OMG you never cease to amaze me! You go girl!
Been following for a while. & wow its crazy to see how much you've improved. Here i was thinking I was doing ok bc I finally got a few power tools of my own and have tackled a few small/medium projects.. k I'll do better. Congrats, love what you've done so far
Haha, we will encourage each other to strive for the next big project! 😁 Keep going, Ashley!
The happy jumping at the end ❤
LOL, I was sooo excited!!
I love your closet project! You make me wish I could do a project with you. Thank you for sharing all yourself tips!
This is beyond impressive. Kudos to you for taking on such a huge project!
Love this makeover. Oh wow you got a big closet. I'm envious of your closet, lol. Mine is tiny. I can't wait to see the rest of it. 😊
You did THAT, Sis💯 I love your Channel/Projects. You always do a great job of talking us through your thkught processes & you offer really good tips to help us avoid making mistakes.
Thank you so much, Michele! I realized that the way that I share my projects is like a journal, documenting what I do, what worked and what didn't, etc. It makes me happy to share the deeper side of projects because there are a lot of questions that come up along the way, and if I can answer them for you, too, then you'll have an even more successful project! :)
Amazing job Serena! Last time I watched you were mainly using DIY Ryobi tools. Glad to see you using high quality tradesmen tools like Milwaukee and Dewalt. Oh and that Ghana shirt was fancy 🇬🇭😍
