Fascinating, and wonderful. I have visited the museum, many, many times, alone and with friends.
Your talk has confirmed my thought that despite those many visits the museum 'exists' primarily in my memory.
Following the restoration(s?), I have maybe 50 years of impressions of the (changing) space. In memory I enter through the front door, and take a 'tour' editing out some of the spaces, which though fascinating I suspect Soane, at least when he was walking through the space with guests, would not have shown, such as the small corridor between the library and the picture gallery? And they of course elide with other Soane interiors such as those at Wotton, Tyringham, and of course his own country house at Pitzhanger, all of which survive as palimpsests of the originals, with later overlays.
My own last home had been made over by architect Eric Throssel, a disciple of Soane, again adapting an earlier house as a homage to Soane, using elements of, but not copying, Soane.
I hadn't thought of Soane as being a cubist, and clearly in our minds we now have that ability, of seeing all sides of an object at once? I wonder, was Soane with Gandy seeking out cubism a hundred years or so before Picasso and Braque made that 'discovery'?
Sound, friendship, memory, intent, barnacles. So much to think about, thank you.

Your analysis of Gandy's drawing from the Monk's Room also called to mind the drawings of Zaha Hadid, that I first encountered for her 'The Peak', Hong Kong, scheme exhibited at the AA some forty years ago.
