  • So many wheels to choose from, so little time. There are a lot of Direct Drive motors to chose from in today's sim racing market. Do you go for outright Horsepower or Newton Meters, Do you go for the bigger name brands, do you try out one of the lesser expensive brands? Where do you start?
The Simagic Alpha Mini might be the perfect choice when considering all of those things. The Alpha Mini is a 10 NM Direct Drive Motor that comes at a much more affordable price point that its larger cousins. It is extremely high precision and built to last and it is also part of the entire Simagic Ecosystem of wheel bases, wheel rims, shifters, handbrakes and pedals to chose from.
In this video Shaun Cole of The Simpit tells you everything you need to know about this mid level Direct Drive Wheelbase.
Thanks for your continued support! You, The Pitcrew, are the reason we’re able to keep the wheels turning here at The Simpit. @@DjTittySprinklez a straight and sturdy shaft that's not held by a clamp and won't randomly pop off or disconnect (CSL DDs do not have a straight shaft). It actually is capable of outputting 13nm of torque instead of 10nm, so the difference in details is very noticeable. I do not know why they underreport the torque on their bases. For example, the 15nm Alpha actually is able to give 18nm of torque. The motor does not have weird grainy vibrations, the QR does not clunk or rattle; there's absolutely no play between it and the shaft. The wheels are amazing, but they don't have low budget options. However, if you buy a Fanatec GT3 wheel, a metal QR and upgrade the shifter paddles, you will get close to the Simagic wheel prices but it will still be plastic instead of alluminium and carbon fiber. It just shits on the CSL DD in every aspect IMHO

The wheel feels great, and is stupid high quality. I stepped up from a Logi G920 setup and couldn't be happier. A big question here: did you ever manage to make the Simagic Alpha Mini work in Project cars 2 or Automobilista 2? It never works for me. Very difficult to even assign and calibrate, have to reduce the rotation to tiny angles. But even after that, in game there is 0 movement from the wheel. All the buttons are recognized, even axis of the paddles, but not the rotational axis. Tried with all settings I could on the Simagic software and in game, same result in both of those games.

    • @MRLWay

In the software, turn the wheel in "Compatibility mode" and calibrate it then launch the game. If it's still not OK, stay in compatibility mode and configure your wheel as a joystick in Steam (plenty of video on that)
