"Unschooling" means no curriculum, not either a right or a left curriculum. This is a total misnomer. I "unschooled" my son from 2003 to 2010. Public education failed us for a number of reasons. He is now an honors student at one of the world's top universities. He's a History major.
It is unfortunate that this report wasn’t approached from an objective journalistic viewpoint. Why not give the topics discussed in the 100s of videos, the CV’s of the presenters, the reasons why the videos have been seen billions of times as your introduction into the success of PragerU? Have you noticed how “conservatives” who believe in conserving the good stuff get labeled “right wing “. All this report did was again show me that legacy media is in big trouble because of time constraints always present stories from their agenda. BTW, Chuck, can you please tell me what are the Ten Commandments?
All your comment showed was your opinion was made before this video was.
Prager is gonna drop the full interview that these guttersnipes cherry-picked from.

Not even trying to hide his religious bias
Or his MAGA credentials
@rjean99 For me, that's what's so glaring. It's confusing coming from a government employee's mouth speaking from his professional position.
The founding fathers were atheists, deists and Christians came here to form a country where people could practice their religion of choice or none at all. the only group to have their religion banned until, 1978 was Native Americans. Traditions, cultures, dances, ceremonies, languages, religion all banned. In American "Indians could be anything they wanted to be, but Indians." Russell Means
This is horrifying and eye-opening. Thanks for sharing. Never, ever knew this.

What do schools of the '30s look like? They were schools that taught reading, writing and arithmetic; not much else. Schools of the '30s produced students, who in the 5th grade knew more than most students who graduate high school today. Those types of schools are what PragerU wants for today's children. As for book banning: there has always been book banning. If you were to step foot in a public library, you would know there's an adult section and a children's section. That's simply because some materials are not proper for children.
Bingo! Well said.
My mother was an exceptional writer, so much so that once an English professor questioned a college paper she had "edited" for me, noting it seemed professionally written. She was widely recognized for her writing prowess. When I inquired about how she honed her skills, she attributed much of it to her elementary school education between 1938 and 1944. A significant part of her learning involved studying Latin and mastering the skill of wordplay to express ideas with precision and clarity.
A human being’s first ‘job is to be an a scientist explorer, using all senses to acquire unbiased information about their surroundings. The baby emerges from an aquatic environment to a radically different air environment. Life depends upon using the senses and the brain to make decisions about safety and comfort. The data collected comes directly from the source. The first job is to be a scientist, usually using a trial and error method. A ‘teacher’s job” is to equip the seeker with the knowledge, skills and tools needed to make those discoveries in a life-affirming manner in all “subjects.”
Very well put, and living in todays world requires such in spades to even navigate understanding of events alone. With advent of AI it will require even more if truth and objectivity matter, and they should.
Montessori understood this.
It's fascinating to watch Hylton and Todd, people inundated by left-leaning thought, try to understand rational conservative content. This must sound so incredibly different than the people they meet every day.
Education shouldnt be left or right, it should be just education. Thats the hard part though, through whos eyes are they being educated. Perspective...
Reading books, including topics that make us uncomfortable help us develope basic thinking / reasoning skills. This is very dangerous?
This is dangerous, because PragerU has an agenda. Their agenda is to white-wash history and feed children into conservative media.
It is today all one sided. Only leftist books on what leftists think is uncomfortable and needs to be challenged is presented.
I support PragerU. Need to remember you don’t NEED TO BE AN EDUCATOR TO TEACH! In fact, homeschooled children performed significantly better than their public schooled peers in terms of academic performance. Most parents are not certified educators. So there! FACTS don’t care about your feelings people. Let’s educate our kids.
I cant even imagine the kind of life a child will have when their entire perception of the world is dictated by outright lies and misinformation sponsored by whatever industry giant feels like pushing their ideas trough this "university".
Please cite scientific studies to support your claim that homeschooled children perform better than those in public school. I'm betting you can't.
I'm not sure why Prager U agreed to do this interview.
Any press is good press when your target audience are a pack of uneducated goons who can't grasp nuance or context.
Dunning Kruger effect.
Cristofero Colombo was ITALIAN, not Spanish. He wouldn't have said "Caramba!" SMH
Actually was Portuguese and his goal was to add territories to the Queen Isabel of Spain, that is what Mexican public school system taught on the 80s.
He was born in Genoa (Genova), Italy.
Columbus was born in Genoa, now in Italy. He was financed by and working for Queen Isabella of Castille, now part of Spain. He probably spoke her language quite well to negotiate her financing such an endeavor as sailing west to reach the far east.
Sadly, no matter what is taught, trust in educational institutions.has been lost. Under this new hyper-scrutiny, I worry about the future of public schools. It was once a jewel in our U.S. crown.
Trust has been lost because the schools are crap.
Wow! Great hit piece. 30 minutes of comments taken out of context and outright lies. Anyone watching this will have no idea what Prager U is like. Linking bomb threats to Prager U is especially disturbing as it has nothing to do with Prager U. Go watch the videos and then judge for yourself.
That was exactly my thoughts when I watched this piece. It started out interesting, then took a hard LEFT into darkness
This was probably the most disengenious “journalistic” piece I’ve ever seen. NBC should be ashamed of themselves. I would encourage everyone to watch this then go and watch the Praeger U follow up to this.
This is terrifying ...
The “sociologist” has no idea what she’s talking about. She says teachers shouldn’t be supplementing curriculum? Teachers supplement curriculum all day, every day! That’s why the site Teachers Pay Teachers is so successful. Teachers purchase materials created by teachers to supplement their curriculum. I don’t know any teacher who ONLY uses their district provided curriculum.
If your source is “went viral on tik tok” that means it’s MORE likely to be lies, bs, or clickbait.

We don't have fights about teaching kids reading writing and arithmetic. It's just history. I wonder why?
The communist democrats are trying their best to rewrite history...no argument that many subjects can be updated in history studies, but to completely throw out facts that do not conform to the desired narrative is stupidly dangerous...
Well, it’s the DEI folks who want to remove Math from some curriculum.
Why didn't you ask Prager to define Woke?
You don’t know much about Prager. He can and has defined it. He is an extraordinary debater. Perhaps you think that is the left’s snappy comeback to “What is a woman?” which the most junior member of our SCOTUS, an actual woman, could not answer.
What NBC does not address once is if you ask the vast majority of parents what they want their children's curriculum to include they would say Reading, Writing, Arithmetic. History, Science...they would not include propaganda theories from the left or right....
It’s not that they don’t want kids to be indoctrinated, they just want to be the ones indoctrinating them.
Amen! They are such hypocrites.
We want children to be given information, and to use their own free will to come to their own conclusions. We also want children to know that the love of Christ is bigger than any on this earth, and that they are significant in God's eyes. That they not only have worth, but a purpose in this world.
@@jodihouts6032…so you’d have a problem if your child decided to become a Muslim or Hindu or any other religion their educated mind steered them towards. You miss the point completely.
@@jodihouts6032This is interesting because it seems some in the Christian faith want to remove people's free will
@@jodihouts6032 Do you know what I hear when I hear this - we want children to be informed about what we believe so they can believe they are coming to use their own free will to believe what I believe.
Giving children information and using their free will means giving them information - all information. Not just the information we want them to know. It means teaching them that Jesus is *A* reason for the season - not *THE* reason for the season and teaching them that dozens of holidays, from a variety of faiths and cultures are celebrated between November 1 and January 31. It is allowing a child to see differences - and see how things are at home - and deciding if that is what they choose to believe.
You are absolutely welcome to teach your child about Christ. You are absolutely welcome to teach your child that God is the only way. You can do that - - but you don't have the right to teach that to other people's children unless they invite you into that (like as a sunday school teacher, youth pastor, even family friend) .
You do not have the right to make people who don't believe this way - to conform to your way of thinking.
Facts are not based on whether you like them or that align with your beliefs or politics.
To the left, especially those well indoctrinated to it, what most of us call beliefs can be considered facts, such as whether a person born male can become female just by deciding they are. Those without religious values care nothing about lying to you, yet will explode emotionally if they catch you lying to them. Hypocrisy and selfishness are similarly one way streets for their benefit only. A society based on such things will self destruct.

Attended a private, Christian elementary and middle school in FL and a secular, college prep high school in FL. Graduated in mid-2000s. The curriculum skewed heavily to the right, glossing over complicated aspects of American history. My college education balanced me out, it did not "indoctrinate" me into becoming some radical communist. Today, my wife is a public school teacher (elementary) in "liberal" New England. Never once has she been asked or forced into teaching CRT, talking about preferred pronouns, etc. Conservatives would lead you to believe there's an epidemic of indoctrination running rampant through our nation's schools - it's not true. Talk to actual teachers. What is true is that this political pressure cooker is pushing teachers out of the profession and exacerbating the shortage that actually impacts our kids' education.
So they can then go on and privatize the system.
Exactly they know their lying the evil greedy pigs just want all of the money 💰 funneled over to their creepy private schools so they have control over the next generations to come 🤬❗️
Yep, they want to abolish the Department of Education, they say so proudly, and privatize the system, which would be an unmitigated disaster and set our country back many decades. Conservatives in this country are unhinged, dangerous and destructive.
I don’t think teachers are quitting just because they see opinions on the news. Most teachers who quit say it’s mostly because they aren’t allowed to discipline the students in any way, so if there are bullies in the classroom, they almost have to surrender the classroom to them. Other reasons are that they lack resources, and there are also those who don’t agree with the school programs.
Purely anecdotal
Please correct Ryan Walters when he erroneously states that the US was built upon judeo-christian values. That is patently false and needs to be called out.
Do people know why they are careful to say JUDEO-Christian values, rather that just Christian values? It is because PragerU is run by a Jewish man.
Prager spews that nonsense as well!🫣
Why is this patently false?
Tell us what the US was built on?
John Adams:
"The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."

God bless PragerU. Go and watch their videos and see for yourself how brilliant they are.
The only people who these videos will seem brilliant to are people who actively deny the reality around them and vulnerable children ready to be moulded by lies and propaganda.
The focus of the article, PragerU being brought into schools is objectionable. We should also be asking why Pearson Publishing has such enormous control over what goes into K-12 textbooks, and PSAT SAT testing. They become the default curriculum architects, and they hold power over school boards across the country. There are other publishers of curriculum materials, McGraw Hill, and Harcourt. But they do not have the same leverage as Pearson.
I don’t know the answer, but I am concerned when teachers lose the opportunity to create a balanced vibrant environment for their students. They are being pressed by parents, administrators, dept. of Ed., and their own students. It’s a job within the job, and educators are (by my observation) overworked, asked too much, and compensated below their worth to the community. In the end our children lose.
So why didn't NBC do a report on the influence and bias of Pearson?
@@sayitaintso2900NBC only reports on things that advance their Marxists agenda. SEL is taught in school and it's Marxism.
My kids have learned more from PragerU about our country, the country we live in then they ever have in the public school system. We love PragerU. This is very interesting. In some ways this is not the correct conversation to have. If you look at NAEP data, almost 3/4 of our students aren't proficient in reading and math. Of those not proficient about half are really struggling.
I find this very interesting. There was a time when we just wanted children to get an 8th grade education. Those who struggled or were uninterested in further education got into the work force or worked on the farm. This is the 30s and 40s. We need more options for these children today. Not everyone can be highly educated. I hope liberal parents demand Parental Rights for their views. Do you acknowledge Jefferson s relationship with Sally. I quit teaching in the 80s because if you disciplined a child, the parents caused a stink. So, the classroom was out of control. There is Systemic Racism. Don’t deny.

Those scores are skewed because we test all of our students, not just the ones with no challenges.

Leftism is Marxism, so wherever you find leftists, (like in public schools teaching our children), you will find Marxist ideas being taught.
Marxism is being taught in public school. Social Emotional Learning is mandatory and is Marxist and has priority over any core classes.
It's how to be an old bigot 101
The minute that guy said "the radical left" I shut it off. That summed it up to me that it's all about politics, nothing more. Politics do not belong in the schools any more than religion belongs in politics, or public schools. You want politics or religion in schools then go to private schools with zero tax dollars supporting them.
Dennis Prager said he hates the Left. He's really a sick and distorted being.
How dare the Florida schools use his videos yo indoctrinate the children of Florida. The parents need to see and hear what their children is listening to.
But the left controls the public schools today, and left wing politics is entwined into all subjects. That is the problem.
Well it's being taught in school. S.E.L. is being taught and it's Marxism.
That guy Ryan didn't really answer any question asked. And what he did submit as a reply was incredibly vague, so much so it seems he was afraid to actually state or define his positions. Which makes me wonder what didn't he want us to know about his beliefs? Except for at the very end when he tells us he wants a Christian nation.
I wouldn't want that guy anywhere mear my kid. He's intellectually devoid.
And he brought up "American exceptionalism."
Why does someone who wants a Christian nation invite a large organization run by a Jewish man into their schools to educate their kids?

Yes he’s trying to get rid of stupid woke stuffs in school like “men can get pregnant “
Isn't there a conflict of interest for the teachers? If the teacher unions demand a certain paradigm to be taught and if you don't follow it, as a teacher, is there financial instability that comes along with it? Are you getting paid to teach a certain 'propaganda' by the union?

He did not specifically cite Libs of Tik Tok, though such people can easily be found there speaking in their own words. Or do you think those people are fake and none exist in real life? Many of them have been located and spoken to or have other social media confirming their views and teaching jobs. While I would agree these people are outliers, they do hold jobs across our nation, bring their nonsense into our children’s classrooms, and often are allowed to continue. In Oregon cities, they are common and may in fact be politically dominant in our schools. Our state Dept. of Education actually says there are no longer correct answers to math problems, and no testing of any kind is required to demonstrate proficiency to receive a diploma. Why would any employer hire someone with an Oregon high school diploma any more without administering their own test for literacy and math skills? If illegal aliens find this out, they will descend here to get a diploma so they can get work without being able to speak or read English.

I don’t think it’s that simple. I agree the rah rah America and white washing of history is dumb when conservatives do it. But it’s a backlash to the left denying how exceptional the American experiment truly is. It’s not a I’m American so America is great, it’s an appreciation for the genuine uniqueness of our founding principles. Such a cheap shot. He obviously wasn't talking about segregation but the quality of the education. They also used to teach character development. See "The Atlantic" article by David Brooks.

That's a non sequitur
Dude, you can't be this malignant and dumb 😂😂😂
we'll see in 15 years what those kids think of their parents' choice to put them in prageru.
The videos do not present a theory of history, meaning where in the historical timeline does slavery, feudalism and capitalism happen is not presented as a continuing saga, a story of mankind with dramatic beginnings and endings, so that particular events are not seen as expressions of the whole process of human development and the videos suggest development stops right here with us right now, and that in itself, assumes permanency. History shows nothing is permanent. The present feels permanent because mass movements are slow to develop. When they reach a certain pitch of intensity mass movements change the world overnight. We don’t feel the force of Earth’s tectonic plates until the plates drop on top of each other and break open. Only then do the invisible forces become felt. The education system is polluted with right wing politics because of the bureaucracy of education, not in spite of it, it brought this opposition on to itself by centralizing power. Any opposition to it must come from within, a take over, a coup dé etat, kick out the liberals and install the conservatives though infiltration,--- is the way to destroy the bureaucracy. The education curriculum is only a catalyst to that end. The kids are still undermined.
These reporters who deny the left wing ideology is in schools - including grammar schools - need to do a deep dive muck-rakers field day on King and Snohomish county schools in Washington State. I can testify that its been in classrooms there at least since 1985. It began with "objective looks" at America that favored Socialist and Eastern philosophical perspectives with heavy doses of the harm the US has done in the world with a list of dates and facts to memorize about history but no context that show that outside of helping defeat Hitler, America had done any good in the world. The gender confusion was by at least 4 years ago when my nieces and nephews were in school. And the DEI integrated math lessons etc are on the web as the King County curriculum statement. It is true. At least in Western WA. By the time I graduated from high school I didn't realize how little I really knew - but I was overtly ashamed of being American. 35 years later I looked up my old high school history teacher and he is now a fairly prolific and openly Socialist writer. I didn't start questioninfg the perspective on America until I wa 30 and met a Canadian with a radically different idea of America's work in and affect upon the world.

I very much enjoy and support PragerU.
We want our kids to know the truth about American's history. The bad and the good.
Homeboy mentions the Federalist Papers and primary sources, then slips his little "judeo-christian values" in a the 31 minute mark. He didn't read them at all, did he?
Historical Indifference concerning the struggles of Boys and Men in connection to education.
Professional development is also an issue to have one day for this meeting is also helpful on a weekly basis.
This would definitely be popular in the South where the education system is still based on the ideas of 1850.
That is very non-prejudice of you. 🙄
And look at how poorly the southern states rank in education! 🧐🧐🧐
pedagogical. Does superintendent boy even know that word? lolol
did Antonia Hylton ever ask dennisprager to define "woke?"
We simply cannot compete here with the education that the Asians and Europeans have. My stepdaughter in Europe(she's 29 now), speaks fluently 6 different languages and codes A.I. Her education was free in Austria. She went 2 years to S Korea for her A.I. coding education. She works from wherever she wants, her favorite place in the world is Dubai. She travels there constantly for vacation/work. Working pool side. She makes over 6 figures in her 20s. How can our kids here compete against that? But more importantly kids need stable home lives, good nutrition and parents that care. My significant literally spent hours in the evenings and every Sunday for a few hours helping the kids with their math homework. It takes parents that care.
My education was in Europe, all the way through university. Good for basic knowledge, the classics, languages - lots of memorization. You can't touch the US in terms of critical thinking skills and innovation, investment in research and technology. People in other countries completely agree
If Americans could speak 6 languages then there would be no rednecks anymore
@@katenoke1571 I disagree! Critical thinking is discouraged in American education. So is questioning things.
It is by design... we are not people, we are workers

oh, America :-(
Yeah, man... 🫤
I watched the first half, but watching Chuck Todd doing an interview with the smacking sounds he's always making is torture.
You can tell were ChuckTodd stands.
The appropriate time and age for children to ask pointed questions is when the child asks them. You should never say you're too young to know when the child is already vaguely aware and researching.
Except by doing that, they embrace whatever the culture surrounding them tells them. If the areas around them are heavily conservative or heavily biased to homogeneous environs then sometimes that means that you're ceding ground to that bias that may not be based in historical facts, but Cultural ideology.
@@christinacody8653 historical 'facts' state there are only two genders and scientific medical facts have proven that wrong.
Prager / Trump University.

If you live in Oklahoma you should move.
The issue goes deeper than just what curriculum is being used. In the 1930's, you didn't need two or three levels of administration to ensure that public education had someone to enforce all kinds of social issues, from bussing kids out of their neighborhood schools for racial balancing, counting the number of carrots on the lunch tray, having DEI coordinators, filling those positions with the right number of people of color, women, etc., buying Black Lives Matter curriculum for Black History Month, all the while seeing declining reading and math skills. Look around the percentages of college faculties who support left wing policies. I am in my 53rd year of teaching in public schools. I teach chemistry and physics and the colleges aren't producing teachers in those fields so I will teach as long as my health holds up. The “professional development” required to keep teacher certification in most states has been a joke since the 1990's. A lot more “touchy-feely” stuff rather than how to teach with the technology tools of the 21st century. Education budgets are always tight and we need to sharpen our focus. I look at my students frequently and wonder if our nation ever had to launch a “Doolittle Raid” or put a Hitler out of power if we have the youth with the values, skills, and patriotism to defend America, cherish liberty, and prevent the genocide of minorities. Ask Harvard how the current model of educational leadership is working for them. Teacher Unions put students last and their politics first.
Prager U is not the entire answer, but it is a step in the right directions n.
Very well said!
"we don't think they learn much in public schools". SO WE'LL TEACH THEM EVEN LESS AND GET RICH OFF IT XDDDDDDD
A clear and future danger. So-called educators who do not understand or choose not to understand the difference between teaching HOW to think, and teaching WHAT to think. Their target buyers love the uneducated.
interview to Dennis prager-“what would a good education system look like”
Dennis prager- education system from 1930 minutes the bad stuff” basically white wash lol
I took a court ordered anger management class two weeks ago and failed because I was upset about the fact that they used a video of dennis prager lecturing about values. I now have to face a contempt of court charge because I refuse to accept their political propaganda being forced on me by the state of Colorado! I made a RUclips playlist to shame the company selling political propaganda lol
This conversation needs pushback on 'vernacular': Marxist, Teachers' Unions, left-wing, 'discipline back in the classroom', 'curriculum we can see', 'exceptionalism', 'basics',
The "privatization " of Education 😐. The bigger question is why.
What's with the guy with the gun in the opening credits?
Who funds them?

Why are so many misguided people in the comments saying the news anchor owned the guy by mentioning 1930's segregation at the end?
At 14:31 Prager specifically mentioned his idea of a good education was the 1930's style minus the offensive and bad parts which we can easily assume includes segregation so bringing that point up again after it was addressed was irresponsible and showed a strong bias in reporting. He was likely shocked she would go so low as to insult him by implying he would support segregation. It was an extreme use of a straw man argument and to imply it like that at the last moment when he had no time for rebuttal is shameful. Prager's supporters are clearly supporting the teaching of history, philosophy, great historical works of literature, and American exceptionalism that was taught in the 30's and led to the rise of America as a superpower being the educational foundation of the "greatest generation", but I guess many people today believe if there were a few problematic beliefs at the time we should throw out bath and baby both.
I think it is also worth pointing out many of the colleges criticized by Prager for the new Marxist style of teaching are legitimately reintroducing forms of racial segregation today and creating POC only safe spaces, classes, and events which exclude white students. They also often champion racial equity quotas that will exclude white or Asian students who score higher on standardized tests than other admitted students from diverse backgrounds. Conservatives tend to side with Martin Luther King's dream of complete equality and institutional color-blindness, rather than risking a repeated cycle of racism and resentment by punishing races today in search of a nebulous equity. The left is correct to point out that this approach leaves many groups disadvantaged by history, but we can try solving those issues through fair policy changes such as adding school choice and uncoupling property taxes from local school funding which perpetuates inequality as they pointed out.
I am not sure if Prager has the right ideas for improving schools or not since more has changed since the 30's than just the culture, but the US education quality is quickly falling below that of many countries that spend a fraction of what the US does per child, so I at least respect him for trying to point out problems and offer his solutions for free. People should absolutely fact-check his content before use in schools, but it is a tad hypocritical for a politically biased news channel to complain about politically biased information being given to kids. If they really think biased content that might mislead people by omitting perspectives is unacceptable, they should all quit their jobs.
This whole reporting felt like an anti-Prager attack advertisement. They dig into him for not be accredited and being politically right wing, yet not once did they report anything in his educational content was factually incorrect about history or capable of causing mental or emotional harm in children. Bill Nye was not an accredited "Science Guy", but I have not heard demands to remove his educational videos from schools due to that. The reporters here just claimed that kids found Prager videos more engaging to watch than reading their textbooks and it taught kids a different political perspective on history, which alone honestly does not sound dangerous to me. If teachers feel it omits an important perspective, they could easily add content or commentary on that as well and everyone wins. The only reason for a school to outwrite ban factually true information with a political perspective is if they do intend to indoctrinate kids by only providing other perspectives, so blowing this story out of proportion like this for no reason only makes Prager supporters seem less crazy to the average person when they claim that there is a conspiracy to do just that in schools today which will only increase his support base.
Perhaps facts without political perspectives taught in schools are preferable, but with topics like history that is near impossible and students who are incapable of detecting political bias will be misled by the first news station they ever watch if they don't learn how to identify it and think critically in school as well so no parent should ever want their kids to never be exposed to other views.
