I'm glad you're still working away at it, and giving Bob a new place to chase fireflies. The CoCo2 is an underloved machine, and in the 80s as now a charismatic character and story help sell a game more than over the top graphics. Here's hoping Bob (and yourself) keep snuffling along well into 2024!
Thank you so much, that was a really great comment! :) I'll get on putting out more content, if I can just pry myself away from programming once in a while (the real lesson here is to be careful of trying out new stuff. Cause if you find that you really like it, months can pass and you won't even realise)
That is some really impressive progress you've made. Congratulations! I like the little touches, like the sprite & lines changing colors, and the sprite animations as they move. I look forward to seeing future updates. And thanks for the shout-out!
Thanks very much. I've made a whole lot more progress in the last two weeks. Collision detection is in place and the two player mode is up and running. Still loads to be done though. The main menu, difficulty progression through levels, the overly convoluted scoring system ;) and some game over animations. Not to mention sound and music (I'm watching your content and making some sense of it but music is something that has never been a strong point for me). And you're welcome, a shout out for your channel is the very least I could do, I've learned loads and loads from your videos.
@@8bitsinthebasement That's really exciting. I like that you're prioritizing all the details to make this into a real, complete game. I am not sure I will be so disciplined when I return to my Moon Patrol clone. But it is inspiring to see what you're accomplishing!
There are some faster ways to do both the low res and high res versions in BASIC (GET/PUT on even byte boundaries - draw 4 different sets to have all 4 smooth positions going across; CHR$() string graphics vs. SET/RESET... but then you wouldn't have learned machine language, so I am glad you didn't figure that stuff out! lol. And the Don & Kurt Inman book is still most highly recommended assembly language tutorial book for graphics on the Coco 1/2. I preferred it over the William Barden Jr. book for this type of programming.
Thanks Curtis, to be honest, I'm glad that it didn't work out for me in basic too. I'm having so much fun playing around with ASM. I never thought that programming was something that I would ever be interested in, but as it turns out I was very wrong about that :) The good news is that I managed to get the collision detection worked out for the lasers just today so the games finally fully playable on the Coco. Just a couple more months to work out sound and music, displaying text and score, title screen and all the spit and polish needed to finish it all up and make it presentable. It'll be available for free download when it's done, I'd love to know what you make of it :)

Very interesting video and I think we must thank those people Who helped you so we'll enjoy Bob in the CoCo. I Will enjoy your Next videos
Thank you very much, and yes, you're right I've had a lot of help so far and for all of it I'm really grateful.
Oh wow, that's amazing ! Thanks for updating us and letting us know !
Thank you so much for watching, if I ever manage to finish it I'll make it available freely for download ;)
If you have the will to learn it.. you will be supprised how simple some things can be in assembly.. good job !
Thanks Dave, I'm loving the journey so far ;)
Awesome!! Great job! Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much Rudy ;)
Awesome work Peter :) This is amazing, from zero to almost full game in such a short time :) Congrats!!!!
Coming from you Josip, that means an awful lot ;) Thanks buddy

@@8bitsinthebasement- Since it has scoring, we may have to make it a Game On Challenge subject!
