    I stay motivated by reminding myself how much time a task actually takes ie it only takes 6 min to unload the dishwasher or 15 min to fold this laundry. I think we often spend more time anticipating something than actually doing it.

    Thank you for talking about the all or nothing mentality! Some days that works for me, but most days I aim for consistent progress, no matter how small it may seem. That’s definitely not the seemingly overwhelming view of what’s put on social media. I am also a big visual person, so I totally get checking things off and making visual trackers! Overall, this was such a great video Carter!!

    I am the same way with not being one of those people that are 0 to 100 immediately upon waking up 😳 when time allows, I love having a solid 1-2 hours to just do my own thing and then I’m ready to go!

    I have you to thank for finding silicon mini mitts to use in the kitchen! I was in Walmart & saw a Mickey & Mini print on an item. Thinking of you I took a closer look & saw what they were. I'm a lefty & find it hard to find oven mitts. These are a great find.

    Glad you mentioned chronic illness, especially one that's not visible. Between migraines and long Covid, chronic illness really interferes with doing a lot. I had to cancel a volunteer commitment last night and it's not the first time -- I hate that they think I'm lazy because they can't see my illness. 😥 I'm on my third round of Covid-like illness and feel like I need to pull back from... everything?...for a little while. Sigh... We'll see... I'm literally old enough to be your mom, but I enjoy your videos. You remind me a lot of myself, lol -- similar interests and similar approaches to life in many ways.

      Sending you hugs! I find dealing with long covid harder than my migraines because no one understands it (including my doctors) and I always get "well I'm fine after covid so" 🙃 I see you, I empathize with you and sending you big hugs. One day at a time, one hour at a time♥️

    • @maleaann
      @maleaann Год назад +2

      @@CarterSullivan 100% my experience too. I always want to reach out and give you a hug especially when you talk about nausea. It's not Covid related, but when I was pregnant with my son (he's almost your age now), I had hyperemesis gravidarum. No one really understands chronic nausea unless they've been through it. So, right back at ya: I see you. I hear you. Most importantly, I believe you.

    The reward oriented approach really doesn't work for me because it puts me in the mindset that I have to "earn" things that make me happy. The best method that I've found to stay motivated is to really just romanticize every little bit of your life. Like, I hate math, and I had to take calculus last semester, so I started watching RUclips vlogs by college students majoring in math so that I would start associating doing math with the aesthetic and joy and peace in the videos. Then, I started driving 30 minutes to this gorgeous old library to do my math work whenever I could so that I would be in a place that I looked forward to going, and when I couldn't go I would find more and more ways to make my desk at home a place that I loved sitting at while I did the work. That, plus celebrating myself for every little tiny win, made me actually get an A in the class and really genuinely enjoy it, which has never happened before lol

    Not sure if you’ve read Gretchen Rubin’s Better Than Before but it’s the only thing that has single-handedly helped me to create and maintain resilient habits. That’s because it allows you to understand your habit forming personality and what strategies to create and maintain goals work best for you. Piggybacking with positive rewards for example, like you were describing, might work for Obligers but would never work for rebels. A lot of the time, habit-forming tips and tricks are portrayed as a one-size fits all but they’re really not.

      My original intentions were different since I started my channel back in college so I wanted to document that experience. In this current moment I keep doing it because no one talks about getting through your 20s, about personal finance, about being gentle with yourself and social media can be full of such toxic productivity that I want people to feel seen and heard on my channel! ♥️

    I'm sure you may already know this or talked with your doc, but just in case females who get migranes with aura aren't supposed to be on the birth control pill 😬

    • @CarterSullivan
      @CarterSullivan  Год назад +1

      Yep very aware! You can be on progestin only pills! I've been followed very closely by my family doctor and neurologist for years. Depends on your type of migraines but hormonal contraceptives can actually help with migraines. I appreciate the comment because some may not know this but as someone with health anxiety I always ask to keep the health related advice to a minimum ♥️
