Finding 400-500 Million Year Old Trilobite Fossils in Georgia! The Oldest Fossils I Have Ever Found!

- On the way up to Michigan for my mothers wedding, we stopped in Georgia to hunt for Trilobite fossils! I made a mistake with the age in the video. These trilobites are actually from the Cambrian period, not the Devonian. So, these fossils are around 485-541 million years old! These are by far the oldest fossils I have ever found in my life and I am absolutely humbled and thrilled by it.
"Trilobites are are a group of extinct marine arachnomorph arthropods that form the class Trilobita. Trilobites form one of the earliest-known groups of arthropods."

Hey
WILDKYLE do you know what kind of fossils I can find in the PNW? I’d love to go adventure but would love to know what to look for.
I liked the veriety and im not complaining but like i said before trilobites r everywhere here so its nothing too exciting
@@No_thank_you The PNW is mostly volcanic rock, so not a whole lot of fossils, but there are places like the John Day Fossil Beds in Oregon and several plant fossil localities in Washington. Check with local museums, universities or on thefossilforum.com.
Would you mind letting me know where this is at? I’ve always wanted to find trilobites too
Your child hood dream while finding shark teeth: finding trilobites
My dream while finding trilobites: finding shark teeth
Keep on diggin', Kyle!! Great finds! Great meeting you yesterday! As a kid I wanted to be an archeologist, but... now I can live vicariously through your fossil hunting!!
Looks like you and Ashley had a great day! I love the trilobytes , I think it's marvellous that something so old has survived to leave such a wonderful imprint behind! Please continue to surprise us with your different fossil finds!
We had an incredible time! I think is amazing they are preserved also. We are lucky to be able to catch a glimpse of the past through fossils!
Haven't had much time to watch your videos lately, very excited to watch all the videos I missed!
That place is real pretty and had some awesome finds. Really cool when you find both halves at the same time. Found a lot too. Was fun to watch. Great video
Where is this place, please?
My oh my, I love trilobites--and this is a trilobite extravaganza! You and Ashley did very well. And tell your Mom congratulations for us!
Awesome Kyle really enjoyed looking at that some really great finds. 👍👍
Keep the videos coming
Thank you Jim!
Nice video Kyle and congrats on your first trilobites!
Great finds Kyle! Any luck finding out which species they all are?
I have a few Trilobites also. So cool! Love the "beauty shots" in the video also. 💯👍
Go Ashley!! Great Job!
I loved this video. There's barely any trilobite hunting videos on RUclips and the ones that do exist are usually pretty poor quality. I hope to see more!
Thank you so much! I really want to do more, but this site sadly is off limits to collectors now. One of these days I'm gonna get back up to Georgia to explore for more areas!
Great video. Hope you have fun preparing the fossils for display.
want to see more of these trilobite fossils, really enjoyed!
The clarity of that baby trilobite is amazing! Love the sparkler idea, you are one creative guy! Hi Ashleigh (spelling?).
I love that one too! It's Ashley 😊
Dope finds man! I have a few of them as well!! Very cool!!
Quote kyle: this is the weirdest thing ive ever done. While he holds sparklers
Then flashback to all the times hes worn that duck mask and quacked dancing in the water
That is exactly what happened 😂
BAHAHAHAHA!
Awesome video Kyle, trilobites were the first fossil I collected and what got me into this stuff. Really enjoyed this one. Any news on your website? Have a great weekend!
Thank you man! When I get back down South I'll be able to get some work done on it!
Thats pretty damn awesome man. Congrats
Great video! I believe this is the Conasauga Shale and the trilobites are Aphelaspis. The pieces with multiple trilobites could be death assemblages where many animals die and are preserved in the same location, or they could be molts, since trilobites shed their exoskeletons as they grew. They're also often found enrolled like pillbugs.
You are correct about the shale! Thank you for watching!
Hi, Lady Ashley! o7
We have a really great trilobite site(at least 3 different species) here in Utah that is open to the public for a few dollars. I believe it’s called U-pick Fossils. You found some really tiny ones. Those are frakkin awesome. They definitely have a different coloration and stuff than the ones here.
Will we ever see you tackle looking for dinosaur-aladons? Also love the vid and love seeing your celebration of the new fossilz
That will absolutely happen one day!
I always recommend getting a Jewelers loupe to really enjoy rock hounding. Sometimes the prettiest things are very small.
Awesome find, have a safe trip and congratulations to your mother
Thanks so much man!
Love your enthusiasm! Great finds.🤓
Thank you! Fossils get me all excited haha!
Fossils of??do you give one to museum do you think I'd find them in Vermont???im gonna look it up
Good job great finds.
Looks like a beautiful area. I love river finds. Great info.
It was gorgeous! Thank you Sonia!
So cool, when I was a kid, we use ta hunt fossils in the shale along the Ottawa River in Ottawa Ontario, Canada. The shale was always a dark grey, an if ya got lucky, the trilobite fossil looked like shiny gold. I think we used to find plants, but we never kept them, we were after trilobites. Great vid Kyle an Ashley. 👊
That sounds amazing! I really want to find plant fossils one day. Thanks for watching!
Oh I love the pyratized fossils, even the plants. Just watched a video from Wales, a fellow there finds pyratized ammonites--just lovely!
@@WILDKYLE Come to MIssouri we will show you where to dig fossil plants, we have a site that is right up to the k2 boundary and even take you to the only Dinosaur locality in Missouri!
Thomas
Love the video you should make lot more
You guys are my favorite!!! I’m in SAVANNAH and would love to go exploring with y’all sometime.
Your finds are amazing 🤩
Headed to the creek in just a few weeks. I’m so excited!!! I’ve wanted to find trilos since I was 14 and saw my first one.
Very nice. Hope to collect some here in the UK later this year. We've just collected our oldest fossil this weekend. Carboniferous plants around 350 million years old? Video will be up in a couple of weeks :)
Another great video and great fossils also Ashley is cute she should be in more videos!
Thank you! We'll try to make it happen :)
I see someone got service lol.. hope ya have a awesome time. And great finds
I am in a Tim Hortons right now with WIFI hahahaa
Found my trilobite
In a creek in northern ky
Trilobites are cool fossils . There is some sites on Weiss Lake that we have collected in the past . In the Winter when they drop the lake levels you can go to some sites with a rake and turn over the gravel . You will find nodules with trilobites on one side of them . My buddy got one about three inches long . You can also dig in the shale along the banks and find them . We also get Jelly fish fossils at these sites .
Do you mean the Weissensee in Germany?
OMG I found another thing I want to do now! 😂These are so cool!!!! Amazing finds once again.
Hahahaa yes! I am amazed at how old they are. It is incredible!
WILDKYLE I’m glad someone else shares the same love for old crap like this (not that it’s crap at all)!! My friends look at me like I’m crazy when I talk about fossils. I purchased a large Trilobite fossil from someone a while ago but that’s NOTHING like finding your own, esp in your own state! I assume your from GA 😭 I love it! Everything you post is my life goals
AAAAAUAUAGH! 🤣 Buddy, I've had a bad day. That was the only laugh I had today. The goofy noises we make in excitement 😉
Nice finds Kyle
Thank you Wade!
Awesome! I found some of these in Utah a few years ago. Lots of fun.
It was such a great time!
I love theses videos. That's pretty cool those fossils
Thank you!
I would love to know what area you were in finding the Trilobites. I live just outside of Atlanta and go to N Ga frequently in my Jeep hitting some back roads.
Awesome trilo's ! They are very cute
Nice finds. I live about 2 Miles from this location..... Taking my daughter to look for trilo's for her first time today....she's really excited.
That's awesome! I hope you find a ton! Good luck!
Hello, tmurph, any luck? Can you recommend any spots to ho luck for fossils. I too want to take my sons and I do not know the area but I will be visiting this summer. Thank you for any tips you can offer.
Finding its not the most "sharing is caring" community.
@@peloblanco This specific spot is no longer recommended because some...less than intelligent visitors arrived and prompted local homeowners to get it fenced off. However, there is another exposure that I recently found out about that's even more accessible than this site was.
Amazing finds and from such a great period as the Cambrian was like the time of alien looking life.
Loved it more please
I've been wanting to do this too, was going to try to do it in Pennsylvania years ago, but it didn't pan out. Maybe one day! Very cool stuff!
Awesome. I've only ever found one partial trilobite so far. I live in Indiana and found it by chance in a pile of rocks by a lake.
Really awesome.....🙂
Where is this in GA would love to road trip to this area?
Palm sized mortality plates, wow that's crazy cool!
WOW great video. Im not from Georgia but I will be there this summer and would love to do this with my sons. Can you tell me exactly where you were ? Thank you very much
Very nice.
Hey! In what county are these in? Is there a specific are of north Georgia? I live in Atlanta and would like to visit a place like this! Thanks!
I’m in Michigan! How long are you in Michigan for? I’d love to fossil hunt with you guys!
woah that looks fun
Absolutely love this and the celebration with sparklers! Any way you can point me in the direction to find my own trilobytes!?
Where abouts are you? Heading to GA for vacation would love to stop by!
I love trilobites, I didn't know they could fossilize in the US. Good luck on your Instagram account. Almost there!
There's a great spot for them in NY called penndixie aldo ttilobites are all over the US
wow love the things you look for..
I grew up in south west Ohio not far from Serpent Mound if you know what and where that is! I use to find all kinds of cool stuff in the local creeks. Unfortunately they were lost in a move and I now live in upstate new york!
Lots of fossils in upstate New York. Where do you live in New York??
That was the first fossil I ever found . Love it 😀👍
That's an amazing first fossil!
You know, I am in love!!!!!
☺️☺️☺️♥️
Looks like a brill place
Yo you found a great formation for full trilobites. I only found the pygidium sections. You found complete ones Chepalon, Thorax, and Pygidium. Good finds.
Thank you! It was definitely exciting!
Love Trilobites
💜💙💚💛🧡❤
Oh my goodness 😳 😍 I'd love to find one.
Just found this channel. It’s pretty Rad.
Most of these trilobites are Elrathenella sp. from the Conasauga Shale. They are Middle Cambrian in age which makes them approximately 520 million years old.
Thank you Bruce!
@@WILDKYLE Not from this particular part of the Conasauga Shale. This is Upper Cambrian (Paibian Stage) which is about 497 million years. These are the youngest trilobites and the youngest section of the Conasauga Shale.
TRILOBITES‼️😍
💜💙💚💛🧡❤
I LOVE FOSILS
Awesome video you can spray them with clear coat it shines up the stone and protects your fossils
Thank you! I definitely plan on doing that!
Hey where did you find these? Was it Chatsworth?! Any tips? I'd love to find my first fossil. Thanks! Great video
There is a site just below strom Thurmand dam on the Savannah River on the Ga side according to the georgia Geologic website. I don't understand how these people act like such douche bags by not telling everyone where the place. Its not a secret.
Thank you
Oh bring sparklers! 💥💥👍🏼
This was the first fossil site I ever visited back in 2016. I've been there 3 times and it still blows my mind of the amount of trilobites to be found in just a short time frame. If you want to learn more about the Conasauga and the trilobites you are finding, check out this video I did on them.

Those trilobites are sick, hey do you know any places in Florida to find those
Any chance that you could tell me what county that is? We have joined a brand new rock club... Amos Cunningham is our field trip organizer & we would love to take a trip to look for trilobite
These are from the Middle Cambrian Conasauga Shale which is over 510 million years old.
Trilobites are awesome
Yeahhhh... I enjoyed it very much... I think the more diversity you can provide the more interesting it "stays". That sounds a bit odd, but I know you get what I mean. It's all positive! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! Yes that is good to hear because I love finding all sorts of different stuff!
When we were kids in school...there were tons of trilobites around the school yard.
When i was a kid there was a strip pit in southern Indiana somewhere outside Sullivan and we had collected boxes of the trilobite fossils in that red clay rock they have there. I wish i could recall the name of the place for you but ... :-(
What is a trilobite?
Love ur channel!
The only way this could have been better is for me to be therel LOL What an adventure.
im in georgia nice bro cong keep
I only just realized you guys came to my favorite spot. Huh!
AAAAAARRRGHHHTRIIIIIIIIILOBITES...... This is the sound of somebody dying of fossil envy. That was freaking AMAZING.
Nice new topic of fossils!
In my creek I can find cronoid fragment fossils 😂
I love doing new things! I would love to find some Crinoid stems!
I live near Cincinnati Ohio, which is supposed to be a pretty good area for Trilobites, in my 23 years of searching though i've never found a complete one, only fragments.
Let me help u out with that dont break rock in the Ohio formation to find trilobites look in loose gravel beds where the rock breaks they will be in the loose gravel most likely rolled up it's very rare to find them in the prone stage just some pointers
Molly Singleton Thanks, ill have to try that, the fragments of what I’ve found are from the Flexicalymene species and are usually loose or in a matrix filled with other fossils.
On your up north you can stop at big brook preserve New Jersey
How do you know where to find fossils? I live in a state where it’s cold most of the year and no mining areas
Just gotta do research on fossils in your state!
With all the negatives (the impression of the bug rather than the bug itself) you found it might be cool to make some molds and plaster cast/resin cast the animal from the negatives.
These would make amazing jewelry....
Where in Georgia did you go?
I wish I could do it with you guys
How do trilobites get in the rocks
Where at in GA?
How do you find your spots
BTW, these Trilos are Cambrian in age, not Devonian. Conasauga shale, just about 500 million years old.
Thanks! Yeah I corrected that at the end of the video and in my video description hahaha.
@@WILDKYLE BTW, have you seen my various trips to this spot on the forum? Favorite spot I've ever hunted so far, and the finds speak for themselves on that point!
I don't think I have! What is your username on the forum? I will check it out!
