  • The ice being produced by my refrigerator tastes and smells terrible. I fix this by installing an inline secondary water filter and mounting it on the back of the refrigerator.

    my ge grxtll came with 2 brass fittings.... What am I suppose to do with the fittings, since you stuffed the water line into the filter itself?

    What filter did you use?

    • @mybatterhalf6614

      Hey Phillip, the brand of filter I used was a GE and I bought it from Lowe's. It was fairly inexpensive but it is still working great! It's nice to be able to use the ice from our refrigerator. Thank you so much for watching the video. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask.

    those blue tabs should be removed before inserting the supply line tube into the filter. Once the tube is pushed into place then slide the blue tabs back into place to help lock the supply line into the filter.

    Hello Bill I know it’s been two years since you made this video. You looked to have trouble with the water running while installing the filter. I would recommend installing a inline shutoff valve next time it will be easier to replace water filter. I had to install one because they would not warranty my fridge. 🙏👍

    • @mybatterhalf6614
      @mybatterhalf6614  3 года назад +1

      I never turned the water off which is why it was still running. Installing a shut off valve right there at the back of the fridge would be a great idea. Also, like you said, it would be much more convenient than having to run outside and turning the water off at the main shut off valve. Thank you so much. I may do a video on how to do that next time. I hope you have a great day.

    how did you bypass the refrigerator filter?

    • @premierdrums21121
      @premierdrums21121 5 лет назад +2

      I didn't bypass it because I wanted both filters to be fully functional. Both filters working has 100% fixed the ice problem. The factory filter just wasn't getting the job done. Thank you for your question and thank you so much for watching the video. If you have anymore questions please don't hesitate to ask.

      @@premierdrums21121 Since you have the universal filter on the back of ur fridge that fixed ur smelly ice problems, don't you think the manufacturer expensive filter fell to do its job & could be eliminated when its six months runs out? I'm glad you got got ice!!!!! :-)

    • @premierdrums21121
      @premierdrums21121 5 лет назад

      Hey Dianne! Thank you for your comment and watching the video. To answer your question, I have considered getting rid of the factory filter all together. It would be interesting to try it and see if the ice still maintained it's regular smell and taste. That would certainly save me the expense of having to replace two filters every 6 months. You know what, I'm going to try it!! I'll send you a response and let you know if it worked or not. Again, thank you so much for checking out the video. If you have any further comments, questions, or suggestions I would love to hear them. Please consider subscribing if you haven't already.

    If you had made your cut on the other end of the filter the supply line would have been over foot longe for better access and more slack.

    • @premierdrums21121
      @premierdrums21121 5 лет назад +1

      Thank you so much for watching and commenting on the video. You are absolutely right! Thinking back on it I probably should have cut it closer to the other end. I do have plenty of slack on both ends, however if I ever have to cut anymore off the line it could eventually pose a problem! Again, thank you for your comment.

      @@mybatterhalf6614 HELP! I followed the instructions and when I turned the water back on to purge the filter to get the grey water out no water came out of the filter/tube. My refrig is old and only has an icemaker and not water dispenser. A friend told me he thought the water inlet valve, that the copper tube screws into and the plastic icemaker tube comes out of, would prohibit water from going through the plastic tubing until the icemaker sends the signal to fill the tray. The only other thing I can think of is a bad water inlet valve, but it was making ice before. Please advise. Thank you.

    • @mybatterhalf6614
      @mybatterhalf6614  3 года назад

      Hey James James, the fact that your refrigerator only has an ice maker has nothing to do with purging your filter. The filter should not be hooked up to the refrigerator yet. When you hook up the water source to your new filter make sure that the flow arrow is pointing twords the refrigerator and hook up the water line to the opposite side that the arrow is pointing. Once you turn the water back on it should flow right through the filter and flush out all the carbon. Once that is completed , turn the water back off and then hook up the refrigerator end of your water line to the filter. Mount it to the back with zip ties and you should be good to go. I hope this helps.

      @@mybatterhalf6614 Yes I did it the correct way. In fact, I took the filter off the hose so there was just the cut end that connects to the water inlet valve. I turned the water back on and no water came out. It seems to me either the water inlet valve is defective or it will only allow water to leave the valve and through the tube when the ice maker is ready to fill the tray.

    • @jamesjames-cj2fx
      @jamesjames-cj2fx 3 года назад

      The reason I think the water inlet valve is okay is because the ice maker has been making ice. There is an electrical connection to the water inlet valve. My friend thinks that if your refrig has a water dispenser as well as ice maker the water has to be fed to that all the time. But, if you only have an ice maker the water may not enter the tube going to the ice maker (the water inlet valve would not open) until it gets the electrical signal to do so. ???
