    Have been following Ms Santhanagopalan for a very long time now and the best part about her music is that she gets better and better everytime I listen to her, especially with her voice, *which something I cannot say of most south indian musicians*
    What a voice culture!
    Wish you all the best Ms S. You're doing us proud :)

    Can anybody help me with my ignorance?
    Any time I see one of these Carnatic festival concerts, I see in the audience (and sometimes even at the stage) many people looking uncomfortable or shaking their heads at certain points looking like they're disapproving.
    What's going on? Are they reacting to a "mistake"? Are they reacting to an improvisation aspect that they feel they would have done differently or that would have been done in a different manner traditionally?
    So, are they been conservative in front of a non-traditional interpretation or is there something else going on that I'm unfamiliar with?

    • @archmurali1108
      @archmurali1108 4 года назад

      Hey. You get this feeling because the video dudes have taken random, and I guess even repeated shots of the audience and have just put it on the video just to "show" RUclips/TV viewers that the audience is shaking or nodding, irrespective of their reactions. It does not correspond to the performance at all, although the live concert would have obviously been the audience shaking their heads in approval!🙂

    • @thecarnaticmahesh
      @thecarnaticmahesh 4 года назад +1

      Generally, in India, shaking the head when one appreciates somebody/something is a way of acknowledging them/it.
      The tone in which they do so, can denote whether it intends a condescending tone or an appreciative tone.

      Hey that's a deep observation, given that you are probably new to the Indian concert platform and probably Indian culture itself. Yes you can see all sorts of facial and hand gestures at any given point in a concert. Mostly it shows the involvement of the individual, rather than approval or otherwise. In fact there is no approved way to show disapproval! Yet you can see very spontaneous applause at the end of an item, often at the climactic point as well.
