"looking for a bit of inspiration and i have come to birmingham"
a sequence of words never ever used before by anybody.
lol 😆
"the sort of estate that would end up in a lower desirable area like this" cut to Birmingham had me wheezing
Don't like Birmingham traffic is nuts nowhere to park, and you get fined for driving through clean air zones lol
Points for realism - all the UK local governments are having budget crisies right now
And it's because of services (social care) too lol
@@jacobite2353 although they raised council tax :D
by design after the plandemic
@@MuhammadNurulIslam Yeah cause they need to spend even more money, a National Care Service would be so good for our country.
"Find somewhere less desirable to live" *fades to Birmingham* HAHAHAH
So true. Hard enough travelling through and around it. One time we got lost in Birmingham, just doing lots of loops around a new housing estate of bungalows, something you don't do everyday, but you do in Birmingham because you get lost a lot
Surprised you're not sponsored by a tea company yet, looking at you Yorkshire Tea.
That would be nice 😁
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines , it'd be good because whenever there's an autosave going on not only does it show your tea but you do something to make out that it's Yorkshire Tea even if it's not Yorkshire Tea but is Biffa Tea instead
Why would they? It‘s not as he would start promoting coffee when they refuse… 😂
IT'S THE NIF-TEA SPONSORED SOLUTION!
@@jessemulock1163 wrong channel , although biffa is totally worthy
"Lower desirable area" - so ive come to Birmingham!
Absolutely hit the nail on the head 😂
actually had me dying lmao
Really appreciating Biffa's commitment to realism by simulating a budget crisis in a British city 😅
The unrealistic thing is the people in charge being competent enough to fix it
Jammie Dodger Drive, Custard Cream Close, French Fancy Fields, Battenburg Broads, Rolo Roads, Cadburys Close, Kit Kat Crossing, Shortbread Hills, Rice Krispies Square.
More names for ya. 😂
Brilliant! I'll add them to my list 😁👍
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines May I add some more for the list: Rich Tea Cul-de-Sacs, Viennese Avenue, Garibaldi Close, The Village of Saint Malted, Upper Bourbon, Lower Bourbon. 🫖
Wow congratulations, I am happy biffa has used some of your amazing suggestions. 💜
@@shemab Thank you, my Wonderful Wife. 🥰💜
Putting my name down for a place in KitKat Crossing!
In cities skylines 1 13 % taxes was the way to go, in Cities 2 its 9 %. Also, Offices are super lucrative. You will have 3 blocks of office that produce more money than an industry area literally half your city size. Drop office as soon as you can to 9 percent to maximize demand and profit, otherwise you will have no demand, no office, and missing out on the high income it produces.
Definitly True!
When things get going, i set residential taxes to 0-8%
great tip! Thanks.
WOW! I live 5 mins from Castle Vale and the high school really fits in there. But now Kettlewick NEEDS a couple of trollies in the river as Castle Vale can be bit rough!
I’m so happy you’re making another British series!! THANK YOU BIFFA!!!
Given the new area is council estatesque:
‘Kipling Court’
‘Custard Cream Court’
‘Mcvities Manor’
‘Picnic Place’
‘Twirl Towers’
On the opposite end of the scale you could do a ‘Millionaires Shortbread Row’
Aspen meadows could be called Bournville, keeps with the sweet/biscuits theme but also gives homage to Birmingham which you based it off
Call the High Street "Bournville Boulevard"
Bourbon Bay, Shortbread Shores, High Tea, Wheaten Grove, Bakewell, Wafer (pronounced Way Fair to play up how some places are not spelt how they are pronounced), Cobbler Hill, Pudin (pudding), Flummery Flats... Can't think of any other names right now. I saw another commenter say the same thing, but it would be awesome to see a high street at some point.
Perhaps once cash isn't a problem, the rivers could turned into canals, and you could see if there are canal boat assets to have something that reflects the UK's history of trade and travel via river systems.
Y Mochyn Du was a great pub in Cardiff (now sadly closed and renamed something else) and it means 'The Black Pig', and The Heath is a pub in Cardiff too. Its so awesome to see some Welsh representation in the game!
Y Mochyn Du is based upon the Black Weir Tavern but I decided to give it the name of the pub that closed.
You've placed the Heath pub pretty much in the same place as it is in real life!
And Biffa's Welsh pronunciation was perfect 🤣
@@marcusdirk perfectly english 😁
Actually on the theme of Wales I'd like to see some rugby pitches added. Also cricket
🏉🏏
You could do a small easter egg with the district names and name some after sewing supplies. After all it's a stereotype to keep sewing supplies in a biscuit tin. For example the Royal Dansk brand butter cookie tin is very common for storing needles and yarns. One I also have for this exact purpose.
If you make a upper class residential area it should definitely be called Rich Tea estate
Yes I was about to suggest the same 😊
30:53 Oi, Biffa! You've just put my house on the screen. Sort of - it's in there somewhere 🙂
Being Australian I'll suggest TimTam, for an suburb/division. This is a brilliant build Biffa, and some of the pubs, flats and schools remind me of what we had over here in the 70's and still standing today.
Cadbury Close / Maltesers Manor / Werther’s Way / Rowntree’s Row / Maynard’s Bassetts Mews - okay I’ll stop now…
You know it's going to be a good day when Biffa uploads!
Yay 👍 😊
24:34 that shop '...Everything's cheap' looks like the Poundland(?) shop with that colour and the way it's designed
Your Brittisch map builds are so recognisable to watch for me as a Dutch person. I suspect our architect did a lot of copy/pasting of the British houses in the 60's-'90s and plopped them everywhere in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is just an English speaking themepark ofcourse, we don't know her.
"Chickens go in, pies come out."
😄
The new estate could be Eccles Estate. An area for inspiration you could look at is Leigh Park, Havant which when built was the largest estate in Europe.
When Biffa zooms into the house you grew up in on Castle Vale 👀😂 Brilliant that your representing the true UK and Birmingham! Keep up the good work mate.
😁
A negative on small homes means they are complaining _because_ they _have_ small homes... there are UK high density that aren't low rent BTW. But whatever... great recovery build and it does indeed feel very British. Reckon you could call the new area (Aspen Meadows) "Twixton"
Football pitch maybe on the opposite side of the main road past Hobnob (other side of the "highway" that you could make a proper main road)? Then surround the pitch with more terraces, basically recreating where I grew up and many other such places... loads of terraces and then football stadium in the middle. Leeds, Bradford, Middlesboro, Sunderland, Manchester, etc. etc.
Looking at the shape of the blocks of flats you were placing in Jaffa Cake Crest, I thought you were going to spell out UHT ... after all, it is cheap and undesirable ☕
An upmarket area could be Viscount Vale (or Viscount View if it's on a hill!)
👍
Lovely addition to the city. Very natural growth pattern.
Seems once you hit about 8-10k population budget management seems to get easier.
I'd love to see some dorma style houses and some bungalows in Kettlewick....a Haven/Pontins style caravan holiday park would be nice to see, too. Enjoying this build so far, looking forward to seeing those terraces one day lead up to the famous stadium of the soon to be Kettlwick Rovers Premier league team 😂
Got to love an alley (ginnel, snicket, tenfoot, snickelway etc. depending on where you are from in the UK) running up the side of old ex council houses.😅
It amazes me how spot on this pack is, those council flats with the blue central boards on the wall are spot on to the ones around the estate I was brought up in.
20:49 I think it would be more realistic for the schools to be right next to the terraces rather than off on their own. Enjoying the video!
Could also use classic biscuits:
Bourbon bay
Custard Cream Fields
Dodger hill
Nice Place
Digestive mines
That Aspen Meadows area looks great, but I think All Sorts Fields could do with a bit of a redo. You have so many big gaps of nothing between the houses, it's not using the land very efficiently, which is pretty bad sprawl and will lead to more traffic than is necessary. If you went for a similar road layout, but just packed the roads together more tightly, so that the zoning areas cover basically the whole area, then it would have the same feel, but be a bit more realistic, and use the available land much better.
Please tell me a British High Street of shops and mixed shops/flats, will make an appearance in Kettlewick! Also, the suburbs need some paths, maybe even a quayside running along the river! I also hope there is an asset or two that features former mill buildings that were renovated into apartments - would be a fantastic thing to have near the river, where Kettlewick of old had a bustling river trade involving mills and old factories, sending out tea and claymade cups and teapots to other regions so people could enjoy a brew, but which went into decline because of road and rails, so these buildings became disused until the citizens decided to renovate them to provide new homes for people!
In any case, keeping Kettlewick strong, Biffa! Fan-sipping-tastic vid to enjoy! 🫖
Great idea and thankyou 😊
Name suggestion : Garibaldi Grange
I would love to see a district names "Terry's Orangery". Loving the series so far keep it up, it's awesome
Nee estate is looking amazing, one thing you picked up on in Brum was the green areas, as well as using parks, don't be afraid to leave just patches of green as empty fields... not every area needs to be plastered with trees.
Would be really cool to see the birth of Kettlewick FC. From a sports field in the middle of the terrace houses to eventually a professional stadium as the city and club grows.
Bourbon Park, Garibaldi Grove, Richtea Hill, Chocolate Chip Chase.
One of the things to consider when doing housing estates is to use the smaller road type. I find the default road type to be far too wide for normal roads as they are effectively 4-lane roads because of the parking on either side. There is a narrower road type which is just 2-lanes with no room for extra lanes/parking/bus stop. This type of road fits so much better in the housing estates.
Watching Kettlewick grow with my lovely Fortnum&Mason tea, nothing more is needed 🫖🍵 This city looks sooooo lovely, so perfect, so British😩♥ Loved how you showed us some inspiration on the Google Earth, it's always fantastic to put some realistic 'face' to the Cities Skylines canvas. Keep it up Biffa, there's nothing better than watching you build a UK city in CS, no one else does it on RUclips!
Thankyou and enjoy the tea 👍😁
Love the candy theme, as you grow and use different region packs you could name them from their sweet treats, Black Forest Woods, French Fancy farm etc
Another great build from Biffa - diving into the budget management is helpful for those players who get stuck at early stages and seems to be ignored by many CCs who focus on detailing etc
A quick request - have you done anything on managing demand in larger cities - every time I get over 300k population demand just seems to disappear (tried all the obv fixes)
A few more for me.
Freddo Fields, Gobstopper Grove, Soor Ploom Wharf, Macaroon Manor, Creamola Foam Farm, Irn Bru Forge, Allsorts Avenues, Pear Drops Pastures
Biffa I have a quick suggestion, just add an extra little path or alley for a back entrance into the school at the new estate. So the students in that estate can get into the school easier. (It doesn't have to be a usable entrance just one so it looks like there is one)
22:55
so there's C, H, I, L, N, U, and with anarchy you could make A, D, E, F, J, O, & Q. Maybe G, M, & W as well?
Making a low-income area have buildings that spell out the name of the area would be something the feels like something straight out of the 60s, isn't it?
You should have a sign made for the entrance of Kettlewick just like British towns have. Also some district names you could have are: Percy Pig Place and Colin Caterpillar Close these could be for a higher rent housing to reflect on the importance of the sweets from M&S.
The new pack is really great (not just for a UK build). But after nearly a decade with the first game, this is the first time I'm actually building a UK city (left hand traffic etc) and it's been an absolute blast.
This is looking great! I love the way that final neighbourhood came together
@25:04 for realism you need a row of nothing but pubs on the end of two blocks with just a few takeaways near the end.
Loving the Cities 2 videos! I recently picked it back up myself, and finding these helpful as I face similar challenges in my city!
Did no expect to see the Vale pop up when watching this! Shame you didn't base it on the 80s version, literarily a pub on every corner! Also there a Cadbury drive there in real life so fits in with the naming theme of your town!
Maybe the new area should be just McVities or McVities Village
They've done such a great job making all these assets and Biffa's doing a great job at implementing them. Great to see.
Love the new area looks very natural. Would love to see some some little concentrated areas dotted around of mixed shops, pubs and houses :)
As soon as the asset editor is ready I’ve got ideas for social housing. First job is making a flat roof pub with the bookies next door to the chippy.
After all the money they spent doing up the Vale, I love that Biffa is using it as his inspiration for a less desirable area. ❤
Slowly beginning to look like suburbs of Manchester...loving it!!! Loved living there ;)
love all your CS and CS2 videos. almost more than playing the game sometimes...keep up the good work!
Hi Biffa. Milton Keynes is very well known internationally in town planning. It has roundabouts at almost every junction!
Definitely the best looking build in a while from you! I think the map references really made a huge difference, along with the asset packs of course 😊
Thankyou 👍 😁
Kettlewick is growing up Biffa, nice to see another episode tonight here in Western Australia.
Pringle Lane, Walker Street, Green Giant Park, Cadbury Road, Nando Drive, Quaver Lane
More names for you to use.
Also, if you're using Brum as inspiration, Typhoo tea was born in Birmingham in 1903. My Mom's journeys to and from work was through Digbeth, which had the combined smells from Typhoo Tea and Birds Custard 😎
I always feel a level of guilt when I have always hated hot drinks of any kind especially tea even as a Brit. You have made me like tea. Happy New Year Biffa
42:00 = War damage 🛩💣 led to the middle two units being smaller!
42:32 = Question B -- does all the house look the same (left hand side of the road) ?
Area name = Jammy Doger Dunes
Love the UK look - from Ohio USA
I left a similar comment a year or so ago and I just want to leave it again. I stopped playing years ago but still look forward to your uploads whenever you make a city! Thanks for the content and I wish you the best! Bonne journée!
I propose Tunnocks Town for the yet-unnamed district.
Late to the Party but "Viscount Meadows" Surely has to be a call for a biscuit themed affluent area.
Bourbon Brooke is my area name suggestion thrown into the ring, enjoying the series
i really wish they have a small game update which allows cims to sit on benches and cafe chairs, would make such a huge difference in the game. or maybe a sitting site mod.
Now we need a British Car pack, with some Austins and Wolseleys and Rovers and Morris and the occasional Jaguar.
PS: Cavendish Estate?
Every bit of B-roll has rain. It’s perfect.
Nice to see two classic Cardiff pubs
Kippling Meadows, Teacake Fields, Victoria Estate. For the older ones amongst us Marathon Meadows.
Need to make a name for the river flowing through Kettlefield. I was thinking ‘The Boil on -‘ something like that
OH NO. I can't unsee that your sidewalks to all your custom alleyway roads are all off centred from eachother on every segment D:
Yano what, I have a feeling this will be the best build series yet.
👍😁👍😁👍😁👍😁👍
I might have a good one for the new area, I think "Malted Milk Meadows" to fit in with the name given already 👍
Yay! Thanks for the video on this topic, just what I needed and wanted. I can't watch it right now, but will do as soon as can. Liked the video in advance!
You are so welcome!
What a build again.......... love it and the new packs...... bringing CS2 up from a low...........
I tried to use the map but there are patches which cause problems with overlapping objects when there are no apperent things there...... it aslo messes up the zoning
There are custom areas on the map (fields etc) which you need to move before you build over them 👍
It doesn't fit with the new place you built but when you do expand towards the farms/fields the new district could be called Barley Sugar since barley is a crop that reasonably could've been cultivated in the area
Nice build today Biffa and good points on making money!! I'm horrible at names, especially British names so staying out of that. Love the pubs on the corners because that's what I've heard all my life is there is always a pub around the corner 🍻🍵🤩
Thankyou 😁👍
Alright you know what I did last time, an extremely long comment with all my thoughts? Well this time it's so short compared to last time, yes, that's right, I've learnt how to not say so much in my comments now!
1:00 logo unrealistic; there's no hills yet, I don't see stars out during the day, I don't see tree leaves floating in the sky with clouds above them (I made this all up as a joke but the first one I literally mean it)
1:05 AND IT JUST HAS HERE STOP (*accidentally*) CHANGING THE WEATHER
2:52 not sure if you noticed but the stuff with nothing has the measurement of pounds (lb) and the things that are being produced is measured in tonnes (tn)
31:46 It's all fun and games until you see your house (he said less-desirable place to live basically saying you live in a bad place / bad house)
☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
For future naming estates/districts:
🍪Bourbon Estate
🍬Refreshers Walk
🍬Parma Loop
🍬Blackjack Avenue
🍫Twixdean
🍬Bon Bon Estate
🥔Crisp Way
🍬Sugar Mill Way
🍬Penny Sweet Lane (taken from Penny Lane - The Beatles)
☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️
Wow stunning build as usual Biffa!! ❤️👏🏻
Also to save some money, you should try to use a water pump in the river instead of the water towers: the water pump is much more cost effective than the water towers :)
Thankyou 😁
A wealthy area could be called "Viscount".
I've always thought of them as an upper class biscuit.
I'm also surprised you haven't put a trolley in the river yet
Great ideas with the name 😅
Enjoying the new build and the UK tid bits are great!
Enjoying seeing the city of Kettlewick being born. Just thinking a school could be called Jelly Tots. Trying to think of how to make my favourite biscuit Biscoff work! 😅 ☕️ 🫖
Love the school name! Would be great for a nursery 😅
Basic low desirability area has to be named for the most dull of biscuits - Digestives! I suggest Digestive Drive Estate
Love the new series. How about doing an area based on the design of Albert Square in Eastenders? Would be great to see
Thanks and intersting idea! :-)
I just had some chamomile tea. It was so good, I can go to sleep😴
Where the streets end before the highway it might be nice to put a footpath parallel to the highway. It would be pretty difficult to walk from that neighborhood into town
30:56 you made me laugh so hard with “less desirable” your poor citizens have to live in a place inspired by Birmingham 😂
Have you ever considered looking for any mods where you can place potholes? You get a lot around here in the UK.
Also, rename Aspen Meadows to something like Strawberry Laces (like the sweets Strawberry Laces) ?
Thats a very nice looking new area there, I am liking it...only the FC. Kettlepool Soccer Stadium is still missing
loving this series pls post more often 🍵
Allsorts, been a while since I had some. Thanks for the reminder 😊
You need them painted roundabouts. Someone should make an asset if there isn't one already
Huge missed opportunity not calling it Jaffa Cake Crescent. As in Crescent Moon and also the Jaffa Cake moon adverts from time ago
