One of the things I was taught to do when leaving an opening for turning was was to stop at the opening, needle down, pivot toward the outside edge and sew off the fabric. What this does is when you turn it right side out it pulls that seam inside and keeps from pulling those seam stitches as it is turned. I hope that makes sense.
I want to make some sets of mug rugs for some friends, this will be perfect as a corralling box to slip them into as part of the gift. I love these little quick projects that you share with us. Have a good weekend.
I love these fabric boxes! I want to make one for my sewing supplies. They would make nice gifts for anyone that sews! Thank you for sharing this tutorial!
I'm at work supposed to be cleaning but coffee comes first and a, bit of youtube this is fantastic but to be honest the pubs quite clean and no one else is here iuntil 7:00 am ❤iam a lady and I love to see a man sewing my dad who unfortunately died many years ago was both a knitter and sewer
The original video that inspired this (linked in the video description) uses buttons and looks great. I didn’t think this fabric combination needed it, but would easily dress this up in a cute way.
This just came across my feed this morning and I’m so glad it did. I love this little basket. Easy to make and functional for a lot of uses. I didn’t think it was weird at all for you to piece the interfacing. I do it all the time! 😉 We’ll check out some of your other videos!
Another way to treat the corners, to make them sturdy and keep them square is to use Nancy Zieman's method. Fold one side over the stitching. Then fold the other side of the corner over the stitching. Place your turning tool over the folded fabric to hold it in place. Then turn the fabric. Viola! A square, filled corner that is beautiful. Of course all of this made easier if the seams are set by a quick press before turning. Cheers.
Great tip! And thanks for mentioning Nancy. She was a huge influence on me as I learned to sew. Her show was so fantastic and she made her viewers feel like they could do complicated tasks because she explained the techniques so clearly.
I’m so glad that advice helped! I learned so much watching PBS sewing shows as a teenager and I’m glad that I get to emulate my favorite Nancy Z and show others tips and tricks too.
That’s very kind of you to say. I really enjoying making these videos. They have been a wonderful way to stay connected with a fun audience that is so supportive.
Tried this out, was easy but need to make it larger next time. My scrap piece of fabric was 8x8 inches. It is a very small, tall basket. But, it works, holds my clips.
Sounds like fun! Now I ALSO want to make Halloween versions. That’s about the cutest idea I’ve heard in a while. The color combinations with this two-fabric version would be great. And there are definitely some fun Halloween buttons to anchor the side points too. Have fun!
Very cute box / basket These will make useful gifts come Christmas time Thank you for taking the time again to share with us. It is very much appreciated Its a lovely was to pass half an hour with you 💜💐
Great fabric box! I’ve been thinking of making two of them for both regular and large clips. What size I’d the 13” square finish out as a box? I don’t think it would be too different to make a rectangle, say, for organizing fabrics. I’m inspired!
I will be interested to see how a rectangle works out. It may cause issues with lining up corners and folding down the points. Let me know how it goes!
Love this! If you start with a larger square would you use a larger measure for the little pocket? The video you linked seemed to use 2.5 inches on a 10 inch square which did not change on the 13 inch square.
Yeah, you could leave the same or go a little bigger. You really don’t want to go more than 1/4 of the size of the diagonal because then your corner points that fold down would actually go under the box rather than being attached to the sides. So if you do a bigger square where the diagonal measures, say, 20”, you wouldn’t want to use more than a 5” measurement. Hope that makes sense!
A bamboo chopstick is what I use! Works great for poking out corners without the constant fear of the chopstick accidentally poking a hole in my project.
I noticed in one of your videos that you commented on an iron that you liked. Could you tell me what it is. I have a problem with irons. I like a lot of steam too but can't find a good one.
My favorite all-time iron has been the Sunbeam Steammaster 1400 Watt Steam Iron with 8-foot retractable cord. Makes LOTS of steam. Here's a link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AX6RCD8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If i dont have fusible, don you think I could try quilting the pieces together? Well, you probabaly wont see this, so i will give it a try and edit my comment if it works!

Thanks for this little tid bit 😊. Awesome idea
ANOTHER great idea to help me when making shelter cat beds!!! Thank you!
Why have I never known this? See, you can teach an old dog new tricks 😅😅
I forget who I learned this from..but anything I have to turn, I use this. Game changer.
Brilliant tip!!!?
Wonderful gift idea basket filled with goodies. Thanks for sharing
If anyone gives me one I want it filled with chocolate. Just saying. Lol
I love your fabric choice!
Good project! I often piece together interfacing. It is expensive and I keep scraps for smaller projects.
Loved your tutorial easy simple and no music well explain…thank you🥇🏆👍

Great instructions Timothy. Thank you.
Yes the button would be pretty
So great to see you clipping the corners properly.
Thank you! I was raised right. Lol
Buttons on the folded down corners could be cute. Great well timed tutorial with lots of helpful suggestions

I love how easy your instuctions are to follow! Thank you.
Nice! I love the colorful fabric. I always appreciate when you make a mistake and show us how to fix it.
This would be great for my Quilling items +, the tools are small and would fit perfect in the corner pockets. Thank you for this tutorial :)

This just popped up on feed. Love it. Thanks. Absolutely love the fabric you used on the inside 👍🏻👍🏻
It’s some of my favorite! I made a quilt for my partner using these fabrics and had enough left over to do some other small projects.
Brilliant way to trim corners! It will be a big help for me when making shelter cat beds. 😍
These will be great for cat beds! Sturdy, soft, comfortable, and washable, all at the same time. :) Your shelter kitties will love them. 😻

This is such a cute pattern Tim. It reminds me of the microwave bowl cozy pattern but this one is cuter.
So useful and nice looking. Thank you for the great tip on how you trim corner bulk
Glad to be of service. I like learning things like that so I make sure I pass them along. Gotta keep learning!
*LOVE* that lining fabric
Me too!! I made a quilt out of these fabrics and others and had enough left over to make great stuff like this.
Tried this out, was easy but need to make it larger next time. My scrap piece of fabric was 8x8 inches. It is a very small, tall basket. But, it works, holds my clips.
Great design, love it! Ill definitely try it🙏🙏thank you.
I just love your videos. I've been watching you (and learning) since Covid Mask Mania.
so glad I found this, I need to make some halloween baskets for gifts, awesome and easy, I love the little pockets, thank you

Thanks for a simpler way...:)
Gosh, I really enjoy your tutorials! I'm going to make one of these for my nail polish & another for makeup and more for friends Thank you
Thank you for sharing!!
Very cute 🥰
Perfect for this basket I will use for sewing thread
That’s a great idea! I’d put bobbins in the small corner parts, myself. But maybe you’ll find another use?
@@timothytotten9409 yes planning make another too as for me and just love it , Thank Tim😊
Very cute box / basket
These will make useful gifts come Christmas time

Lovely if you left the wee inside bits on sewn they could hold your marking tools and your spools on the inside
Timothy this is a fab project. I am going to make these and stash them away for gifts. 27:51

Makes perfect sense. Thanks!
A long handled wooden spoon can be a decent turning tool if you have nothing else available.
Good tip!

Using denim for one side would also stiffen it some.
That’s a great idea! Now I wanna make another video. Lol
It looks like you're using a Teflon foot. Is that necessary for this project?
Nope. But I find it useful when going over certain fabrics. It’s just what we leave on this machine most of the time.
Not sure if I asked before - what machine are you using?
It’s a Janome 1600p. There’s a video on my channel about the machine.
@@timothytotten9409 thank you! I use a Janome Skyline S6 but am looking for something a bit more of a work horse 😉
What is that colorful guide sheet next to your machine for?
It’s for our business. Not related to any of my channel projects.
@@timothytotten9409 thanks! By the way, I think you are an amazing teacher.
hi my name is Patricia steele I like your pattern and I will and I live in 1 st AVE vauxhall christ church Barbados
If i dont have fusible, don you think I could try quilting the pieces together? Well, you probabaly wont see this, so i will give it a try and edit my comment if it works!
Yeah, you could create a thicker piece by quilting some fabric. That would give you the bulk/stiffness you would need.
Let me know if it works!
Cute box but poor choice of fabric for tutorial
27 minute video could have been done in less than 5 minutes.
