    "You wanted the best, you got t̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶e̶s̶t̶......me..."
    Happy Birthday to Kiss guitarist, Ace Frehley, who was born on this day in 1951.
    The song is Strutter and is off their self titled, debut album which came out in 1974. The bass was played by my first bass-hero, Gene Simmons.
    I’m playing the ’76 Gibson G3 Grabber.
    That is all.

  • @GWParadise
    @GWParadise 7 лет назад +30

    Gene Simmons came up with some pretty solid bass lines. You picked a great one here, Troy, even doing the up the neck slide he was famous for back in the 70's. Love that Gibson, too. Now all ya need is to put on the makeup and do the fire and/or tongue thing and you'll get a million views on here! haha

    Whatever the status of Genes' playing and musical knowledge he had a huge influence on me and my love of bass. To be fair his bass lines are what the music called for. Kiss music would not be the same without it. Besides he does it all live and sings at the same time. Thumbs up to Gene and also to TJH3113. Keep the vids coming.

      I know, I think it just got misinterpreted. I don't have a problem if a person feels strongly about something. Once, on TalkBass, I mentioned how I thought that Pino Palladino had a much stronger voice on the fretless and that I thought he sounded pretty pedestrian on the fretted. Oh boy! Then there was the time I questioned the abilities of Lemmy...that was on Facebook and was much worse.

    • @ZeroMod
      @ZeroMod 7 лет назад

      Ouch right on...I never got why Townsend wanted him to fill Entwistle's shoes. I very much dug Palladino's work on many songs ( fretless) but was mystified when we saw The Who with him onboard.
      Not bad by any means but for those of us aching to hear "Who bass" a real flat experience. Clearly Roger and Pete want him there so...

    That bass sounds great. What gauge strings are you using?

      Thanks. I've since sold it. It was a beautiful bass, it was just the least played. All my basses are strung with D'Addario EXL200's.

    TJH3113, why dont you play Kiss songs with pick like Gene simmons? Pick gives another sound.

    • @TJH3113
      @TJH3113  5 лет назад

      Because I can't play with a pick. If I could, I definitely would.

      Yeah, three pick-ups on a bass is pretty unusual, but there are some.
