This is the sweetest Malkauns I have heard. Ankita you are the princess of Mewati Gharana. A shinning star ! In 1970s I had the privilege of spending some time with Pandit Jasraj Ji when he had given a performance in Chandigarh and I was a student at Panjab University. I have been following him for decades and I have heard most of our senior Gurus of classical music. I am so glad to see that younger generation is stepping up to the plate to carry on the tradition. i don't know if it is just me...but from the very 1st 2-3 notes of this raag i always go into ecstasy with tears simultaneously erupting in my eyes. please be careful listening to it while driving...it can produce a deep trance.

Here is my favourite Raag again. I am reminded again and again of Fydor Dostoevsk's. "The Grand Inquisitor of Man". Whenever I hear this Raag, I stand helpless before God. Shamed and guilty, I start introspecting throughout the recitation of Malkauns. Sampoorna Malkauns is more introspection-inducing. However, it is the singer who makes a Raag memorable rather than vice-versa. . 9

I love her (nothing sexual). I am dying, these days nothing sounds good, or feels good; but her voice calms me down. I set this song on a loop, and then keep on filling my glasses till I pass out. (I do not know if someone will understand the pain of frustration after living a long life, +71years). I am trying to cut it short.

Malkauns is one of very soulful Ragas. Deep and emotional. Ankita-ji has very deep and strong voice. Smooth moves from low-high-low pitch. This is the first time I listened to her rendition.Who is her Guru? I am sure, I will be listening her more. She is young. A Phenomenal talent...depth and beauty, but epecially, the Singing Out judiciously of certain passages in that fine and secure voice, which is the mark of the finest of musicians, East or West....nothing to be said for the endlessly coy gurgling so frequently encountered in the women singers of Asia.

Must have taken her thousands of hours of practice to learn to play that instrument. And to think she can sing every note of this 24 minute piece exactly the same way every time, truly unbelievable.
the indian classical pieces are not exactly same every time, only 20% of fixed composition is taken as base and rest is improvised by the artist on the stage. Whatever they practice is about how to make this impromptu perfomance a masterpiece and unique everytime. And the instrument she is playing is called "SWARMANDAL" and it's strings are tuned to the tones allowed in that perticular Raga. However there is no special trick for playing this, it is used only as a support by artists like taanpura if u know :)
