    The main problem is that over time the ribbon cable gets stiff, and doesn't fold neatly anymore. You can see that as the laser is moved outwards, the ribbon cable loop gets "taller", and sometimes may scratch the discs. You have to make sure that the ribbon cable remains below the level of the black plastic at all times.

      This was my theory as well. The ribbons are very, very inexpensive. I would recommend, if you have to open the unit anyway, go that extra mile and replace it. This way you get new adhesive and a more fresh cable, that will flex better. Thanks for the video 👍👍

    @CyberhugTechnologies could you please explain exactly what you did?
    It is not really clear for me. I'm sorry for asking. You used double sided tape as I understood from another comment, right?
    But you taped it between the upper and lower ribbon cable, right?
    And you taped the lower one against the metal when the laser is in its maximum position at the motor, right?
    So why double sided tape when only one side is used?
    Could you please help me? Thank you bro

    • @CyberhugTechnologies
      @CyberhugTechnologies  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Ben! you got it almost right, the goal is to have the ribbon stable on the metal underneath - I used double sided tape to hold it lower than the surface of the upper part of the cover so that it wouldn't be scratched anymore.
      The idea is to get it to the maximum length indeed because the laser goes up and down and it is not right to have it tight.
      Thank you so so much for watching! Please, let me know you did it after all.!

    Hey are you a ps2 expert? I need your help. So i bought a used ps2 online and everything is fine except the lens. The lens coudn’t read disks so i bought a lens replacement. I followed a tutorial, even soldered the reciever thingy. And when i was about to put the new lens to the ribbin cable, the white thing fell of the ribbon cable. I put it back on and tried it. It wasn’t reading the disk still. It doesn’t even detect that there is a game in. And the lens and the disk spinner don’t move. Can you make a video on it?

    I need advice
    You see only when I put in a certain game.
    Xenosaga Episode 1.
    It works perfectly fine. But sometimes, not always it makes a scratch sound when booting to the start up screen
    Not reading the disc. It reads fine.
    It's literally only sometimes when booting past the PS2 logo then goes to the Developers previews before the start menu
    It plays fine.
    Just that scratching sound ONCE then it plays normally.
    I saw a big scratch on the bottom but I don't know if it was already there as it was used.
    I did the taking the disc out and back in and starting it over. 20 times
    Scratch sound was occasional. But there isn't any more scratches then when I put it in...
    It plays fine. There isn't more scratches on it.
    Should I be concerned?
    My friend tells me it might be the laser moving down to read the boot data.
    Can you help me?
    Is it the console or do I need to stop worrying and stop inserting then removing the disc?
    It's not a circular scratch.
    It's like a long scratch straight in the bottom and a few light scratches forming a comma.
    Only visible under a bright light
    I'm very stressed out over this and hope I am not ruining my game.
    Again the ONLY DISC that does this.
    Everything else is clean and unscratched no matter how many times I play the games
    Xenosaga Episode 1 is s a duo layered disc btw
    I hear it's very sensitive

    • @CyberhugTechnologies
      @CyberhugTechnologies  Год назад

      Hi there! nothing to worry about i think. The scratch most probably was there before, the bottom part close to the center is not susceptible to damages by the ribbon as it is moving up and down to read, it is the other way around - meaning upper side close to the surface gets all the scratches usually. The console is fine, probably the motor-shaft that moves the laser up and down needs a drop of grease! 😀

    • @SharonisCarin321
      @SharonisCarin321 Год назад +1

      @@CyberhugTechnologies misunderstanding.
      The scratch is not near the center
      It's a line from the edge of the disc all the way near the center.
