I am in my mid forties, and looking at playing again. Haven't played in almost a decade. Something like this board could greatly help me in conditioning, as well as movements and ranges of motion. Thanks for posting this video. I am on the search!
@@goalietraining thanks for the recommendation. I do a lot of cycling, so my legs are developed, but they aren't so limber any more. I will continue to watch your videos, and do what I can.
HDPE from Menards, Home Depot, Lowe's, your local hardware store. I got a black one about the same size for about $15-$20 USD. Wasn't too sure about what to use as polish though. Good to know Its pretty much anything silicone based.
Good tip, thanks!!. The slide boards from HockeyShot are horribly expensive. And they charge you an additional 80 bucks for the socks to put on top of the pads, it's ridiculous. What's the thickness you recommend for the HDPE boards?
@@vincentregis The one I have is probably 1/4 inch or so??? I find the slide quality just the same as my purchased slideboards, you just don't have the foot stops, but I haven't missed them and I'm sure you could build some in if you got a little crafty.
Pledge furniture polish would give you the same effect if not better. Plus safer and won't stain. Pledge on laminate floor makes it like a skating rink.
Derek Nielsen I used pledge on my first slideboard at the gym... definitely smells better, but it stained that board oddly enough. I also have used Jiggaloo and it was good... we just didn’t have any in the shed 😁
I like to know could I put my roller hockey skates on to push side to side could that work? I feel little weird drilling holes in it for push offs? I feel I would have to use thin plywood under it for bolt support
I think you would need something underneath to support it for sure. I don't know about the roller hockey skates - never tried it. I guess because I don't have roller hockey skates :)
A very different price point - the synthetic ice is more technically challenging PLUS you are wearing your skates and gear, so ti is more similar, but also a lot more $$$
Just a question about the size? Is it a 2 foot by 4 foot sheet or 4 x 8 ? And do you like doing the pendulum on the short side, or could I go the long way? Great video regardless, and thanks for the good practice moves.
The one issue I see with slide boards is that, in a skate, the bite angle of the blade on ice is significantly different than when you're using shoes on a slide board, possibly putting additional stress on the tendons of the ankle. What are your thoughts?
Jason Hunt That’s right Jason, nothing replaces being on the ice, but not all of us can be on the ice as much as we want or need. If you have a healthy ankle with average range of motion, there is no issue with the angle.
You've got that right - ever little bit of practice on the movement patterns helps you when you get out on the ice - remember that it is quality over quantity.
Anyone in the USA find these at their Home Depot or Lowes? When i search HDPE or "High Density Polyethylene" on their websites i don't get any options in sheets and what i do find is like $80+. Most other distributors i have found in the USA are well over $100 for a sheet like this. Any help finding this or something like it from anyone in the US who knows where to go would be much appreciated.
Just wondering where your husband picked it up from? The places I have been looking have quoted me $200 to $300 a sheet. I know that there must be a cheaper price out there.
I don't know the name of the place - maybe Parker Plastics - - it was a vendor he has a relationship through his work, so I don't think they do sale to the public really, but I could be wrong.

Knit socks or the new socks?
LordOfTheCrease I am using knit socks. I have never tried the new socks. I just feel like these will slide better.
Thank you, this is a great thing to have available for my young goalie son to practice off the ice!
Happy to help - enjoy!

It could help for sure, but don't over do it - that would be a lot of wear and tear if you (your hips) aren't used to it.

@@goalietraining you can use rounded head self-tapping screws and pucks to add push blocks.
What does "HDPE" stand for?
a good thing to polish the board with low fumes would be hard wood polisher. i use it on my slide board and it works great
Yes, I use that on the one at the gym... I just didn't have any at home on the day I got the board - - this actually worked really well :)
GoalieTrainingProTV should I use that liquid wrench or the wood polish. Also can u give a polish brand if I were to use wood polish
Also I love this channel just found it but you're great!
Thank you very much - hope it helps!
I love it! Great job at putting it together.
Thanks!
This is a great idea. I have so much trouble doing the pendulum drill. I can't seem to lift my right leg fast enough and get a good enough push off.
It is perfect for that - you really have to recover that leg quickly - - it also highlights how important the balance element is too.
@@goalietraining I got some work ahead of me. It's something I've always struggled with.
Reymel and Amy Eat Stuff enjoy - just stay focused as you practice so you are developing the good habits. Have fun with it!

I’m leaning towards just wearing shoes to push side so shoes should stop me
I’m keep it light do I can move it around out of way
You are so helpful to me!!

would you prefer this over the revolution hot shot tiles for practicing butterfly pushes etc?
A very different price point - the synthetic ice is more technically challenging PLUS you are wearing your skates and gear, so ti is more similar, but also a lot more $$$

DEAL... I'll take that.

I found a site to buy it but does anyone know what is natural puck board? It’s option on buying ? I want to slide so not sure if it means rough
hmmmm - - I don't know what that means.
Fantastic video ! Great drills for me as a newbie!

Awesome. Where can I get a slide board like this?
Dave Faxon see the response from Lordofthecrease in this thread, but basically most home improvement type stores.
I looked on HD website, and didn't see anything.
Where did the board come from?
I mentioned it right at the start of the video - my husband bought it for me from one of his suppliers.
What is puck board?
it is the plastic that makes up the boards in a rink.

Melamine at Home Depot. 4x8. Pledge or Teflon in small doses. Armor all?
