I have been wanting to get a slide board because it looks like a good workout. Plus we, as humans, really don't get in a lot of lateral motion. Watching this was really helpful. Thank you kindly.

More than welcome Emoretta. The one plane of motion we rarely train. If you get a good board you will get hooked on it and all you can add to your workouts! Thanks for watching- Coach Ryan

@@DuPrawPowerskating I actually meant to ask a question but i got distracted by some things. I hope it's ok to ask anyway and that this isn't a silly question. Have you ever heard of Brrrn board's? I've been watching various channels about slide board's. I've even watched my fair share of "How to make your own slide board" videos. But I noticed that during the Olympics....hopefully this doesn't sound odd. During the 2016 Summer Olympics I noticed that swimmer's and divers, while both in great shape, had different body types. I think it's from different training. I also spoke with someone who was a competitive swimmer in high school that said she never trains her core. That swimmers and divers just have strong cores. Which I still find interesting. But as far as ice related sports. I noticed that during the Winter Olympics ice skaters and speed skaters have different physiques. Speed skaters have these strong quads. I noticed the same thing about the people who lead the workouts on the Brrrn board RUclips channel. And please know that in no way do I think that's a bad thing. I want to get in better shape, develop a stronger core, have better endurance, get a good workout and have toned legs. I've lost 161 lbs but still have more to lose. Will slide board workouts help me with that while also fitting into my doing other workouts like kettlebells and weight training? I also want a good quality slide board. Do you have any suggestions? I know this was a long comment but I hope you are able to respond.

@@EmorettaRobinson thanks for the great ?s I'm sure I'm going to miss a couple points, but yes did you happen to see that I'm on a Brrrn Board in the video. It's all I would recommend. I love the owners, I love the quality and I love the overall slide experience more than any I've built or purchased. If you look in the description there is a discount code for Brrrn. Secondly, I'd say that just break down your training and give it a 1000-foot look. I used to power lift and lift super heavy with many other players. My physique always fell in line with the focus on my training which was explosive and powerful. A well-rounded routine with the right focus will get you where you need to be. It's a great piece to have in your toolbox!

great video coach, thank you for it. question for you -- do you see risk of injury from slide boards to the knees and ligaments around it? you create momentum from a powerful stride and you just slam into the stationary edge.. that force has to go somewhere. particularly in the case of someone who's lacking strength / muscles to begin with, is this a risk? thx

    • @DuPrawPowerskating

Thanks for watching Ella, I like your question too, #1 depending on the slide board... the Brrrn Boards use an inch and quarter high density foam to take away impact, but #2 as with any type of training I would just make sure to be appropriate with the person using it. If used incorrectly you can create terrible habits or worse injury yourself. If you had concerns about this I'd make sure to work someone that it certified to create a low impact routine. I would not recommend anyone with knee or ligament problems to be striding that hard anyway right. Hope this helps.

Hey Coach Ryan, great stuff. Would a slide board be okay for an adult novice skater or is it meant more for guys who have a bit more skating experience? I’m getting on the ice 3-4 hours a week, but would love a way to practice my stride and staying low off the ice.

Slideboards are great for players regardless of experience because you train laterally and have to recruit so much more muscle fiber to hold the correct techniques and mechanics....if you use it correctly, you can make big gains.... I had an adult league player with me training a couple weeks ago and he was so sore.... quote " That sucked, but it was a good suck!"😀😀😀Thanks for watching

what is the best way to determine how wide I should set up the slide board? I have younger players and an adjustable slide board. I'm just curious what the rule of thumb is for setting the width. THanks
