I see a lot of people on here bitching about VW reliability. Go on Edmunds or Kelly Blue Book and look at the consumer reviews and ratings. This Passat scores an 8.7 out 10, which is very high score. I've had VW/Audi for 20 years now, and only had wear-n-tear items go at the 10 year mark on both vehicles. So, WTF are you people talking about? I just got this 2017 SE model at year-end clearance for $21,500! So for the price of a Honda Civic, I get this luxury? A steal.
agreed! Their reliability is quite good nowadays. Older VW's had horrendous electrical problems that were a PITA to deal with. These new cars are solid.
Don't purchase this car!!! Burns oil, engine problems, dealership maintained and they lied and took my money!!! Worst NEW car I've ever purchased!!! Beware!!!
Great video Chris! The company I work for has a 2017 SE W/ Tech version of this car and it’s proven to be a wonderful car. It is used as a transport car in a private limousine company. The car just turned 160,000 miles (no typo) and it has been in service for 2 years. The car has had literally zero problems. Just basic oil changes and such for maintenance. Still runs and shifts like it’s brand new! Very impressed.
Oh just stop it with the push button start propaganda. Old school is trusted and reliable. Push buttons are just another thing to break down. Also, they are very annoying for maintenance and specialty work on vehicles.
I bought a 2017 1.8 SE. And after only 3k miles, this thing started giving me trouble. What's worst is the service. Horrible. VW lets their service advisors get away with bad behavior. Never again will I buy a VW. POS car.
My 2016 has push to start, navigation, apple carplay, and Bluetooth makes connecting to an android the easiest. I love mine for everything you mentioned.
I bought this in December of 2015. I have put 30,000 miles on it and I have only had one quality issue that was fixed under warranty. For some reason, the seatbelt wouldn't stop rattling. I have the SE w/ Technology & Lighting package because I refuse to own a German car with halogen headlights!
We think it would make a great family car, Dan Lins. Plenty of space, handsome interior, and nice driving dynamics. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
CommViewer i have a 2014 passat 1.8tsi, i don’t use 85 octane. i sometimes use 87 octane. but most always i will use the highest octane. because the car is turbocharged so it’s better for the engine. and does increase horsepower and torque. but to get your answer you can use 85 but it won’t be as good for the engine. if i were you i’d always put 87 octane
I have 2016 Passat and I love it. To your point about the push start I had several issues with that on my 2012 beetle. I just recently traded it in for the Passat. I made sure to get a model that had the key to start the car. As cool as the push start button is there are issues with it.
Thank you for sharing, Tina Olsen. Lucky for you, you got a 2016 since the 2017 SE now comes standard with push-button start. Thanks for watching and enjoy your car!
That mechanical data of 184 ft-lb or 250 Nm is best in its class . torque is one of the comfort on your accelerator feeling. (that is one of the reason , some diesel lover can't get away with diesel , even though this one is not diesel , turbo with Direct injection give u higher compression ratio and larger torque.
Hard to believe a car this boring can be transformed into an Audi A4/A5/A6 just by tweaking the platform architecture. Perhaps VW should put more performance into this model.
pedro fernandez I'm well aware of the VW pricing hierarchy. My point was that adding a slightly higher level of performance and design might actually improve Passat sales.
J High If they just could only improve their reliability, they would sell a lot more cars than they do now in the US. Because they are very nice with excellent driving dynamics, not the bouncy ride you find in many US and Asian cars.
Thank you, Abady SA. We truly appreciate it. Check out some of our other reviews if you get the chance. ruclips.net/user/autoacademics Thanks for watching!
Unfortunately, we can't say, Brandon Wise, as we only get them as new cars for review. A quick search online might help you, though. Thanks for watching!
i drive a 16 jetta with 1.8 turbo and it litterally so much better looking that this passat. Can't believe push button wasn't standard...there are definitely better trim levels to be had. I love vw, but I think they are a bit lacking in the midsize competition. Still love my jetta though :p.
Looks better with the update. However, a co-worker of mine just purchased a 16 Passat SE and it was being towed back to the dealer less than 2 days from purchase. VW still has a ways to go on dependability before they will be large player in the midsize segment.
YIKES! That's always the case where people either have a fantastic experience with the brand or a troubling one. Thankfully, all of the press vehicles we get run great! LOL
You're not too far off, 1lionmurrill. The fact this this is a 2016 means it very likely could have been designed about 10 years ago. Thanks for watching!

Thank you! I always get those comments from everyone but my 2016 vw Passat has been great!😭
Agreed

That's good to hear, TheCherrybomb05. Thanks for sharing and for watching!
VW Passat is the BEST car i've ever drive. Extremely comfortable and safe❤

VW Passat and VW CC are both Business class vehicles semi luxury level !

is the 2016 passat 1.8t se a good family car?
We think it would make a great family car, Dan Lins. Plenty of space, handsome interior, and nice driving dynamics. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Dan Lins great if you want get the r line
But always get continental tires or hancooks
Dan Lins yes I have one
Great video! Well laid out, easy to follow, and relaxed format. Keep it up
Thanks for watching, Cain Bauer!
Keep up on oil changes and keep good gas in it and I've had no issues. I love mine. 2016 Passat S, 32314 miles with no issues.
what octane level does it need ?

97k miles on mine and going strong.
i’m buying one of these tomorrow so now i feel much more confident in my decision
Happy we could help, Kavir Khera. Thanks for watching!
Hows the car feeling now
Do you still have this car? If so how is it doing now?
Everyone doesn't want push to start it's just more money when a repair is needed
Gx19 Films speak for yourself
I have a 2016 Passat SE and the infotainment system is trash 🗑 just my experience doe
How is it with reliability? Any issues since you’ve owned it?
@@Smothered_burritos I can’t say I’ve had any mechanical problems so far I’ve owned it since January
@@j_c_d_bhow about now lol
@@fkjbjfjkbsiuvbri I still have yet to have any. Currently at 83k miles
well if i plug my charger to my car and phone i get navigation it self lol
Very true. But this video was made almost 8 years ago, before that capability was commonplace. Nice that we can do that now, tho. Thanks for watching!
Love my 2016 passat. It drives snooth and good torque.

Just got one of these today! After watching this video feel a lot more confident hopefully it is as reliable as you say 🙏
Tsi.
Excellent MPG for a car of that size and acceleration.
We agree, pedro fernandez. We appreciate your support!
Was it not dsg?

love this review ‼️

Hence the difference in the price.

Yeea guud
Now, if they could only improve their reliability!
pedro fernandez AMEN
PaulD well, Toyota is reliable in the US
pedro fernandez Thats like saying, A Brabus Mercedes doesn't have enough horsepower in their cars.
thx for video......alot of information....
We're happy you enjoyed the video, JustBleedGaming. Thanks for watching!
Great review, timing. One teensy lil omit: Turbo lag at about 250 feet. I tested the 2.0T and V6 2018s.
Good video. Push button should NOW to automatically installed on ALL cars!
Thanks for watching, Teres Edwards!
looks like im giving this car a pass(at).

You think the Jetta looks better than the Passat?? No.
Passaaaaaaar!
Awesome review. Decent car

bland exterior, boring interior design, and the interior is not that great from a material stand point. meh.
Hey, justin bouche. We missed you! LOL
;) hey
at least the passat uses soft touch material on the dash , unlike honda and nissian , and even toyota.there is a whole lot of quality for you.
Emerald Videos look at the r line
I guess you are Chevy or Ford fun so beat up
That is one ugly car. It looks like it was designed 15 years ago.
You're not too far off, 1lionmurrill. The fact this this is a 2016 means it very likely could have been designed about 10 years ago. Thanks for watching!
I love the understated design.
