    Mercedes were slower throughout practice and Q1, Q2. Everyone expected RB and Ferrari to get pole. Then in Q3, this lap literally came out of nowhere. The 2018 cars also had more advanced front wings which really helped in turn-in. With that being said, Charle's lap being 2 tenths slower is more impressive to me. He also almost hit the wall twice.

      Fangio, Clark, Farina, Brabham would be better... No power steering, no helmets, No seatbelts, and they watched people die in horrific crashes (fire, decapitation etc ) and still go out the same session and race flatout

    Hamilton won over 50% of the races this year and finished over 70 points ahead of the next best. This is a great lap but it shouldn't be over egged in the way it is. At the end of the day he was in the fastest machine and needed to find the right set up. Not finding the right set up free practice/early quali doesn't really mean anything other than that it's a misrepresentation of how fast the package is.

      F1 in 2018 isn't like F1 in 2023. They actually had some competition, at least there were different tracks were Mercedes dominated and others were teams like Redbull and Ferrari were better. The 2018 Merc was famous for being bad in street circuits, everyone was expecting, as a best result, for the Mercs to qualify 5th or 6th, yet Hamilton pulled this out of nowhere. It's special no matter what.

    • @pk1342
      @pk1342 Год назад +1

      @@gauravmalltarlok5354 it's a great lap but it's over rated. At most the mercedes were slightly weaker at a few specific tracks but it's foolish to believe that they ever had anything but by far and away the fastest car for 7 straight years. This is the team that were so far ahead they were messing around with stuff like DAS and teams were lobbying for things like party mode to be banned. Believe what you want but I am not blind to the mercedes PR gravy train that sky and the media have showed down our throats for the best part of a decade.

      @@pk1342 That’s not a great take. If youd watched the season, you’d know that Ferrari had a car that was more than a match for the merc. At least for the 3/4 of the season. They threw away a lot of points and vettel made some bad mistakes. (Germany and Monza for example)
      Vettel should have had the championship lead going into Singapore. Had he driven better.
      Lewis won 8 of his total 11 wins in the final 11 races of the season. So that should tell you everything.
      Singapore was won due to this great quali lap then he was handed the win in Russia by Bottas, then the Mercedes really started to get clear of the Ferrari. But to say “far and away” is ridiculous.

    • @pk1342
      @pk1342 Год назад +1

      @@oldschool8330 I did watch the whole season and you're right it was competitive for the first 10 races before Mercedes became the utterly dominant car much like what happened last year with red bull. Singapore took place at the back end of the season when the mercedes was a beast. So it really should be on pole. The lap was made a big deal of because Hamilton probably hadn't got the car sorted till quali and therefore made it look comparatively slow. And then of course sky made a massive deal about it because that's what they like doing to try and make things interesting and because they love Hamilton/Merc
