    Even if I didn't steal the soul gem, if a guard catches me, he always takes my filled soul gems as if they were stolen property. Like, I'll have 3 filled grand soul gems, but I get reported during a Morag Tong quest and when I present the Writ, my filled soul gems are gone. Is it because I "stole" the souls?? I don't totally understand the theft dynamics of Morrowind, but now I always store away soul gems before doing anything that might upset the guards.

      Theft mechanics is morrowind are weird so to get around that when a guard catches you drop everything in your inventory on the ground before talking to the guard pay the fine or whatever you do to get rid of your bounty and pick up all your items off the ground it’s annoying but you won’t lose anything

      more choices:
      (my preference) train illusion with a cheap spell and sneak by being creepy in bars (ha!), then use a powerful chameleon to eliminate the target(s).
      or: use frenzy humanoid 70 to 100 for 1 second to get them to attack first (watch out for their weapon range, and I think they need to see you)
      Or: also eliminate the guard(s)

    The first clip is too real:
    1) Stealth detection is weird in the OG engine, so if you take owned items while standing on furniture, sometimes you get guaranteed chance to steal anything
    2) One you've stolen an item from an NPC who provides services, even if you discard said item, any copy of it counts as stolen in the eyes of that NPC and they will immediately aggro.

      IIRC, no filled soul gem actually stacks with another filled one. This was just an instance of the Nerevarine selling back the item they just stole.

      If someone stole my gem and sells me a similar gem but not quite mine I would be skeptical as well, in Morrowind there are no Quest items, only enchanted artifacts and killable gods

    That first half of the Skyrim clip was so freaking smooth, the chalkboard erase was perfect! Also nice to see Daggerfall being even mentioned, let alone getting its own meme variant.

    also it always bugged me how most of the transcendant sigil stones were almost always better than anything you could enchant something with in Oblivion.

    Tbh, I kinda missed that it was not emphazied how broken enchanting in Morrowind was.
    Yes, in skyrim you get ridiculous values on your items. But in morrowind, you could enchant ANY spell on an item.
    They all had their own mana pool, that regenerated while resting and casting was INSTANT!
    More gattling spells!
    Also effects like paralysis on ranged targets, summoning creatures, levitation, I could go on and on. There is nothing that makes you feel more like playing a god than an enchanter in Morrowind. It is no coincidence that in essence, Dagoth Ur is an enchanter (considering that his power come from 4 magic artifacts which he knew how to use).

    • @HappyBeezerStudios

      Enchanting and alchemy together are even more broken in Morrowind than in Skyrim.

  • @TheNN

    Oh but if you can get a full suite of enchanted gear (even outside of artifacts and unique items) the power boost in Morrowind felt so *worthwhile* compared to the later games. Because you could enchant on cast, on strike, and constant effect, it meant different items could be put to use in different ways. In Oblivion and Skyrim, making all enchants constant effect or on strike only made every type of enchant far more boring and same-y. Morrowind's end-game enchanting felt more like one choice out of many (and one that required a lot more time investment to make work), but Oblivion and Skyrim, enchanting felt like one necessary step the game expected you to reach, and adjusted the difficulty preemptively to account for that.
    (Obviously I'm not talking about/including the exploits you can do in all three games to make godly enchanted gear)

      fr, in Morrowind, enchanting rings with a destruct spell and just blasting everything with photon torpedoes was great! didn't even need the inelligence exploit for that. enchanting got nerfed hard in the later games.

    • @TheNN
      @TheNN 5 месяцев назад

      @@pex_the_unalivedrunk6785 Hell even just paying to enchant rings with some basic heals and other benefits was amazingly good. Being able to cure a basic poison, heal slightly, or restore fatigue was massively helpful, especially early-game.

    • @HappyBeezerStudios
      @HappyBeezerStudios 15 дней назад

      Being able to enchant on use effects in Skyrim would be super interesting.
      Just imagine having a bag full of jewellery, all with different effects and spells.
      Or at least scroll making for the same purpose.
      Sure, Dragonborn adds a staff enchanter in Neloth's tower, but that is basically just smithing again. If only your self-made staffs would scale on something.

    • @TheNN
      @TheNN 15 дней назад

      @@HappyBeezerStudios Funny enough that's basically how Morrowind enchanting worked. Also items had caps or limits on how much/how powerful an enchant could be put upon em, with the best items being either very hard to come across or completely one of a kind.
      It made enchanting feel worthwhile, and a valid playstyle, as even 'cheap' gear could be turned into a wide variety of helpful enchants over the course of the game.

    That is why I picked one enchanter who is off limits for me to steal from no matter how tempting. That Argonian in Vivec who wants me to drive off the actor in front of his shop. Mostly because he isn't tied to any faction, and the quest to get rid of the guy in front is easy to do even early game and gives you 15 disposition with him if you go nonlethal. Which makes it easy to get get it maxed.
    I then only use them for enchanting services. Everyone else is fair game though.

    I have fond memories of desecrating the Hlallo manor in Balmora by using rings of summon skeleton with Umbra to train by (re)filling Azura's Star. That's what I get for using mods that rebalance economics such that Creeper and Mudcrab have no money and all other merchants have higher mercantile skill

    In oblivion the sigil stone are actually really weak. To enter and get what it need to emchant we need to be in a certain point of the mage academy, and then the enchantment can be... Really too much OP.

    In Morrowind I would make a bunch of spells and potions that builds up my enchanting and luck until I have a 100% success rate or close to it and make some enchanted jewelry that gives +100 enchant and luck which even further helps me to make really OP enchanted gear. I had a ring that would summon a golden saint for an infinite period as long as I kept the ring on and used it to farm grand souls.

    Back then gaming was peak of non-linear. It made movies and books boring af.
    You could spend years without discovering other ways to play.
    Sneaking, stealing, persuading, conjuring, potion abusing... that's only some of alternative ways
