You know, I just stumbled upon this video and haven’t seen this performance since the night it aired. I was really into Conan and just loved GBV. They both felt like the voices of a generation. A generation that I was a part of. Shortly afterwards, I checked out Glen Campbells version, of which I didn’t know existed. After listening to both, I went out to have a smoke and started crying. I’ve been through so much since then. We all have. And I realised all of that time that has passed since the night I watched them perform this song on Conan and it really hit me how special this all is. I mean everything. Such a monstrous and captivating life we live. All that time rushing back. I’m still tearing up. Such a special song and certainly GBV’s sweetest. So glad that I was a part of this, speck as I was, next to the glow of the television set like thousands of others when this special night occurred.
I used to DVR Conan back in 2004. I remember seeing this and wondering who the hell 'Guided by Voices was' -- I had never heard of them. Then they started playing, and I thought 'this kinda sucks,' then 30 or 40 seconds in I thought 'this isn't that bad,' then as I watched I thought 'this is pretty good,' then at the end I thought, 'that was great!!!' And here I am in 2012 watching it on youtube.
All due respect to Mr Glen Campbell, but if I want to know what Bob was hearing in his head I’ll listen to the version on ‘Do The Collapse’. It’s perfect!
I know that it was a year ago, but the level of stupid you displayed in your comment about "the backing band" was astronomically fucking high, setting the bar for future stupid comments. The band is GBV. Period. If you don't get, that's OK, but your great loss!
This is my cousin, Bobby Pollard and he is majestic and I love you with all my heart
Dayton is very proud of Bob and the band.
He is and we all do too. Absolute legend.
he's my uncle bob!
He and his music are a gift to humanity ❤
Uncle Bob is all of our heroes
This is a beautiful song, musically and lyrically. It’s the kind of work that comes from a mature person, a wise heart and spirit ❤

The "You Were Right" by Built To Spill performance is like that too. Who would've ever thought people would feel nostalgia for the early 2000s.
I know this song is Bob's least favorite, however, melodies and lyrical content are amazing. Love that silk shirt too. Best songwriter if all time
Shoulda been a big hit. Up is down. Down is up.
Magnificent!!!!!
Simply unbelievable!!
Brilliant.
I heard this on Scrubs. A good song and the band is just as good live. Glen Campbell’s version is really good as well.
That's great! Love it!

This was from 2000, not 2004
And then you watch and love Scrubs, and go, wow this is actually a life changing song
Guided by voices perfection mode
Check out the version from Glen Campbell's "Ghost On The Canvas" album if you are not familiar with it.
This is far from Bob's worst song! Great melody. He probably feels it was too commercial or mainstream.
It's not the best GBV song but I don't get why Bob thinks it's his worst. It's pretty good in my opinion.
Probably too anthemic and straight-forward for his taste. This is GBV at their Bon Joviest.
great shirt
God damn.
What "a good song" really means
Bob brought me here.
I have two rules in life. NO strings in my rock and no brass in my country. But I will make an exception for this one.
I Am The Motherf***ing Walrus ...
@@MoDebris60 Now I understand everything, thanks.
I mean can we make an exception for a day in the life from sgt peppers
"Ben you have leukemia." 💔
Listen to this then find Glen Campbell's version to know what Bob was hearing in his head.

I’m holding on hope that Current election results don’t set us on a horrible path…. But at least I have Bob pollard to sing us into the fire
Scrubs brought me here.

gggreat band. Not as good as Bon Scott's acdc though?? I have thought about this now.
What a bizarre ass comparison...where did that come from? haha
BklyyItalianStallion
Lord alone knows. Probably out of a bottle (or two).
acdc and gbv are pretty far apart. gbv never sold out
Ugly song for GBVs standards
what shitty band are you in?
Maybe they skipped their sound check.
At least it is the real thing. No lip-synching here, mate.
I love this song, but that backing band is fucking awful. Sounds like a bunch of middle schoolers jamming.
