- Welcome to Crimson Guitars www.youtube.co... and welcome to Crimson Guitars www.crimsonguit...
This is the final demo of the 12 Hour Guitar, with Toby James, a professional guitarist (www.tobyjamesgu...) putting this instrument through its paces.
This one-of-a-kind guitar is, sadly, not for sale. It is now Ben's personal guitar. He's finally built one for himself after years of building custom instruments for people all over the world.
If you like the look and sound of this guitar, take a look at other instruments we have in stock ( crimsonguitars....) or even order your own custom build (crimsonguitars.....
What do you think of this instrument? Would you like to see Ben and the other Luthiers at Crimson take on more challenges?
Thank you, as always, for your support. Without you, these projects would not be possible.

Now I've watched the full build I Started to think it was my bloody guitar. Your messing with our minds Ben! Awesome job. Looking forward to more of the same.
Sweet guitar. Was a really fun build to watch. Would have been good to hear it at a higher volume through the amp and get an idea what it sounds like without the sound of the strings jangling away in the room.
Alternatively cut the room/lapel mics when listening to the playing.
Very true
such a beautiful guitar , seeing it and hearing it so makes me wanna play it , and i dont even know how to play a guitar, so totally awesome
Thank you, I still have it and play it regularly. One of my favourites! Thanks for watching! B
Sound tip. Cut the room and lapel microphones from the mix when the guitar is playing. String noise sounds bit rubbish.
You can tell from reaction that it sounds great. But could come across better.
Very true
You guys are getting better, just a bit more work...
Or you can say it gives you more of an impression of actually being there.
Great guitar. Obviously the buzzing is the setup as it's not made for Toby so we can ignore that.
Just that one thing tho Ben... that mismatched cavity cover. It's painful to my eyes.
I have just started watching you'r videos, and I have to say the 12 hour build guitar design is quite well one of the best looking guitar's I have seen. the word beauty is is over used on things and people, but in this case it fits.
Looks and sounds nice... can't wait to see what ya come up with on the next build. Cheers from Canada.
I watched every second, and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was fun to see Marc pop is shiny melon into the shots every now and again...good times!
The most beautiful guitar design I saw in your channel, congratulations!
amazing. My comment comes late... been out of the game for a few years, but this series has energized me big time. Can't wait to work on my next guitar.
Nice sound, nice design, awesome building videos for this beauty and i'm 100% sincere when i say that i didn't fastfowared the sanding parts... keep the nice job awesome man...
Those Monty's are to die for, absolutely love them
I'm not normally a fan of double cuts but that thing is immense!
fun to watch. huge amount of skills you have mate !!
what a beautiful piece of art thank you for showing us Ben
You did a fantastic job on this guitar.
I watched the whole process, it was amazing !
Great sound, hammer shape, amazing timber, and last, but not least - a great guitar player! COOL!! 🙂
Best guitar shape ever!
Love the pickups, and love the look.
Can't decide whether I prefer 3 aside or a 6 headstock, but that is an absolute stunner.
What a fantastic guitar can't wait for it to go into production. I have been in communication with James about lefty versions of the 12 hour and Odd. I hope to make it across the pond and make a deal this summer.
Nice presentation. Toby really is a versatile and very solid player. That guitar seems easy to play.
Well done, Toby :)
This is a beautiful guitar Ben, great job on this one !
You should be proud, Ben. Looks and sounds absolutely fantastic!
Thank you, I do.. This is the one guitar out of all that I've made that I said I would keep, and did! It is my favourite and I play it as often as I can! B
Well done, Ben! Well done!
Ben what a truly wonderful experience, i just watched the whole thing from start to finish, oh man what a , well words fail me it was just wow man, just wow. if you do decide to have another go, could you consider doing a 24 fret bass? you sucseeded in my book.
Wow these guitars look and sound n tone are great ..well done Ben ....quality mate.will definitely look at ordering a geet from you in South Afrca
beautiful guitar, enjoyed watching the build. sounds as good as it looks
Hi Ben, I love the design, it's a beautiful instrument and it seems to sustain infinitely! Just an advice - mic the amp so we can hear a detailed sound with better quality because I don't think this demo represents this guitar as good as it should be :) oh and btw gotoh h.a.p. means height adjustable poles or something like that - you can adjust the height of the tuners to your preferences but I presume you already know that :) great tuners, I have them on my ibanez..
I like the Seymour duncan Perpertual Burns. They're not really high output pickups, they're kind of between a PAF and something like a JB , but they're ultra versatile and sound great split and have great harmonics.
The tone of that thing is great.
I loved that guitar while I watched each episode "live". It inspires me to build more guitars.
Great job. I would love to hear it in person. I would like to hear Rob Chapman playing it. During the build the amazing part was on the angle grinder there was no hesitation. Right in and see what comes out. Very cool.
I think the most amazing part of that guitar is the fret board. I would love to have a two tone fret board like that I think it looks amazing. Overall incredible job.
Loved the 12 hour build. Best series IMO. What were the disc sanders you used? Sawtooth or wolftooth or something? So handy. What angle grinder size/power is good for that?
Saburrtooth, I believe.
Great series to watch, and that is one stunning guitar.
I really enjoyed watching this! Such a unique beautiful shape. However it is hard to hear how it sounds without a few more microphones on the amp. It's a bit of a shame. Beautiful instrument though. Can't believe you did it in just over 12 hrs.
WOW!!!!!! Simply amazing!!!!! Sounds wonderful!!!! A true work of art!!!!! You can be very proud of yourself!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Enjoyed watching the build and guitar sounds and looks 'awesome '
Only negative for me is the control plate cover.
good idea to have it on the side but would be better if it was recessed. I just wondered if you would have recessed it if you had the time?
i can't play at all but am wood worker , you have mad skills ! much appreciation for the talent !
Matt from Monty's is probably the nicest guy ever, can't recommend him enough
I have an American Stratocaster Elite. It's decent in weight, I like it
I really love the look of this guitar. Do you consider making and selling the plans? At least for the body ?
Sounds great, especially on the neck pickup and low gain. I'm with Toby on the output, high output pickups just loose all the goodness from the sound. In 12 hours I may just get the body plank glued...
magic work Ben again sir. Plus it sounds as warm as fuck mate.
Great sounding pickups
Just from your reaction and the sound, I think I'm going to pick up a set of Monty's.
A saddle notching video would be awesome!
Umm, sounds like you haven't muted the presenter mics during the playing, so you get a lot of room sound instead of a nice dry recording of the amp/cab. Wicked guitar though!
IT'S POSITIVELY STUNNING AND YOU ARE A GENIUS
Beautiful !!! Sounds and looks great 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It looks beautiful… And sounds good too.
love this guitar!! great job Ben!!!!
have you thought of having a Flamed box elder cap on a build? I've wanted to have a flamed box elder cap on a guitar for years but finding a piece that large poses much difficulty where i am. great work.
Was this the prototype of the Scion? Or did Scion exist already? Cheers V
great job mate
way cool!!! no cavities on the back, but on side! I've never seen this before 😄
What I really want to see a demo of is that acrylic P bass in the background..
I see that dual dark....
i want it
i will give you a dollar
Shame the camera is clipping on this, should have done a demo sound check
I really, really like the shape of the body, particularly the cutaway bevel. Love the fingerboard wood. love the pickup switch being away from my strumming, flailing pick hand that is not compatible with Strat switches because after 30 seconds I've whacked it onto the bridge p/u position whether I wanted it or not. Hate the inlay, though idea has potential. I think. Like the electronics cavity idea, but the cover looks quite DIY and needs to be finessed (a lot). Gawd, let me rewire that thing properly!! I'm revoking your wiring license. Put down the iron and step away from the cavity, before I hurt you.
Bourns pots are so much nicer than CTS. Any electronics guy (like me) will tell you Bourns are the pot masters (not CTS). PEC are pot gods, but a bit pricey.
The demo... it sounded um.. pedally. I hate pedals. Just plug the damn thing into a JMP 2204 and have at it. Good player (in a pedally sort of way).
Sounds great!
Am I the only one that has a lot of crackle and popping when he plays..? Beautiful guitar but that is really bloody annoying :/
Indeed, I have the same... annoying! I also suggest create a default or standard demo setup with a good mic setup etc. and play the guitars without all the distortion and other FX. Even rubbish guitars can create a great sound through FX.
Some youtubers suggested in earlier videos a more metal approach in this demo, hence the distortion parts. Also there are clean passages with no effects in every of the 3 combinations from around 08:00
The PAFs are clean when the amplification is clean. Tube Overdrive will always add some noise. It’s gone under the volume of the amp.
Probably due to the DAW he's using. Sometimes these pops and clicks come through if the hardware (interface) isn't set optimally.
looks like a combination of Vik and Rusti guitars; Sick design beautiful. Head stock shape could be better.
Is the bridge pickup a bit cricket?
I love high ouput pickups, but that's just because of the kind of music i like to play (black metal mainly).
Cant see why this guitar wouldnt work for Ministry/Rammstein sets as well as any other style.
EMG are empty and dead sounding pickups and come as replacement spare parts. Your alternative would be Schecter or Jackson production models but I think this guitar is better overall.
+iMeMySelf i never said emg, i said high output. Seymour duncan nazgul 7 string version being a favorite of mine. Ramstein/ministry are not black metal, black metal is one of those genres that relies on high treble, high distortion, and high speed. Old mans child being a good example. I know you could make decent sounding black metal on pickups like this. But the high output pickups sound better for that kind of music.
Towulf, I only mentioned EMG because they are high output and widely used by metal guitarists in general. I know you are a black metal guy, you said this in several posts and if you really want to spend money on a custom black metal guitar from Crimson with nazgul pickups, be my guest and knock yourself out but I think these guitars are made with the tonal qualities of a variety of playing styles in mind and would be a waste of money on just this one style tbh.
+iMeMySelf i would never spend the money for a custom guitar without versatility unless i where a professional musician. That said i agree with emg being soulless and unfortunately common in metal. I don't think the problem is high output though, rather the fact that they are usually active pickups. However, i find that lots of high output pickups sound quite good for other genres than extreme metal with the right effects, especially coil tapped.
Oh. Just realized my favourite metal band Dimmu Borgir is considered black metal. Norsk skovrock! :)
I am in love. With the guitar. Ahem.
Shit thats some nice looking guitar!
love it. that is all
why didn't ben play it
great job
Sounds Sweet! 😃
Ben, have you ever checked out Faber guitar parts? I've got a titanium/brass bridge and would be interested to know your opinion. Craig
Love the guitar by the way! I watched the entire build and never miss a video :)
Cant see how one brand name would differ from other brand names, its a piece of metal.
+iMeMySelf why use sperzel, grover, gotoh, schaller or any other number of brands? Sometimes some things that appear the same are quite different in their construction methods or materials. Likewise sometimes someone who knows what they're talking about like Ben prefers one over another for a reason that an ignorant person like myself may not be aware of. Hence the question.
+iMeMySelf i think you missed the point. Metal=/=metal, there are different kinds of metals, different ways to work them which give different results, and slightly different designs obviously can cause a difference. Quality of construction is also a factor. Two tune o' matics can be very different from eachother from different companies.
+Torwulf games much better worded than my response! Thanks.
where do you source your wood from?
Congratulations, Ben, it's incredible. If you could do that every other day for a year and sold them, you could retire!
+DeathFromAbove1981 crikey, I think that would put me in an early grave though :)
+Crimson Custom Guitars at least wait until you've made my custom Tyrannosaurus Rex-bone nut and meteorite pickups guitar...
Nice build Ben!!
Don't leave that one out for your children to break the headstock off..
If these two put their heads together... they'd make an ass of themselves.
See, Ben? You have made quick guitars without phallic headstocks!
no hair was harmed during the making
That string bashing sound with the pick is just horrid. It sounds like he's trying to sneak a quiet little session in whilst everyone is asleep. Way too heavy handed for that guitar too.
thank you! like hes mad about it being Bens build so hes trying to kill it. smashing the string so hard hes knocking the chords out of tune. like dude really.
room/lapel microphones sound kills a pleasure of listening, sorry.
I know you busy but this guitar with this pickups deserve to be heard in better way, so please...
cmon ya gotta love invaders
looks tremendous! ...but my shitty old Squier sounds better.
I suspect Ben for trying to lift the entire UK industry by choosing locally produced pickups and hardware.
That is why I just love the hybris analogy on how every brit in here mocking the sound of their own stuff hehe.
that body shape... i think i fell in love...
love this guitar but Am I the only one that hates that control cover. Dude keeps tilting it up and showing it and it makes me cringe. Needs to match the mahogany.
I don't really like the general look of this guitar, but i still admire your awesome work, though
That guitar is pure porn
Why thank you! B
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars seriously it's beautiful, as are most of your guitars, as always standards are high keep it it up, you inspire
awesome guitar as usual Ben but i wish yiu would have found someone else to play it... dude is smashing the chords so hard that their out of tune. i know if i had built any guitar that dude would have to buy it to play it. no reason to smash every chord. imaginr dude playing a scalloped fret board. sorry bro but are dudes fingers made of lead! wish i was playing it.
To me the bass sounds like a wet fart...I assume it sounds better in the room because it doesn't sound great to me...could be just how it comes across in the video
