I live in Tasmania, most southern state in Australia, and watched all the Fiona videos. Lovely. I haven't travelled to US to see yr zoos for quite a while, same for our Aust zoos.
Loved the care and dedication provided to Fiona, even sharing knowledge with human neonate nurses! Inspiring.

I was so happy to see that even @ 3 y/o Fiona is still getting her mouth message. I keep reading how violent and aggressive hippos are in the wild. Fiona doesn't seem to be an aggressive hippo with the zookeepers, other hippos or zoo visitors. She's still the same cute, chill hippo we saw born 6 weeks premature. She's just so adorable!!! Her ear wiggle is everything!
Pygmy hippos are less aggressive than the common hippo.
Lookup Jessica the Hippo. It's all about the experiences they have when they're young.
Aside from this, it’s possible one reason they’re so aggressive (other hippos) is environment. What with having to deal with big cats and gators.
@@user-dw1lp9br1z Fiona isn't a pygmy hippo. That's a very different species. She was premature, that's all.
She's probably been 'humanised'. Note, that's not the same as domesticated. Sanctuaries (Zoos count) often use techniques that allow animals to get used to being around humans without seeing them as food or a threat. This allows them to be used as ambassador animals to teach people about them and why they're important.

Ok.I finally figured our what my friend meant.She kept telling me that I "have a twin and that twin is a hippo". I thought maybe she was playing one of those goofy games on the internet. She finally told me to look Fiona up and I had to laugh. I was also born Jan, 24th and was 6 weeks premature. I think she is mistaken.The only thing I seem to share with Fiona is the vertically challenged and horizontally enhanced. And she definitely has MUCH cuter ears!😂😂😂

Yes the staff and neonate nurses did a fantastic job with Fiona, from keeping her alive then training & re-introducing her to her family (!)
I don't think I would have ever called a hippo "adorable" if it hadn't been for Fiona. She's 3 years older and still absolutely adorable!

@@Javajavajav ,yeah, I probably should have mentioned that I'm old - meaning the only nature shows on pre-cable tv were mostly on PBS, sandwiched in-between English costume dramas and fund raising programs! LOL. 😅! Yup, no VHS, no DVD's, no podcasts in those days 😱, so all my notions about animals were cultivated in my youth (which is where my comment was dredged up from)! 🦕 🦖
