All my scent lok clothes stay outside during all of hunting season. Very rarely do I get busted and when I do it's because something came into contact with my hunting clothes. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this. Just ordered 2 suits from head to toe, plus the grinder pack. Just trying to figure out this saddle stuff. 👍🏻
Such a genius man. Excellent tutorial. I don't know one single person that goes thru the details that you do for scent control. John, I wear ScentLok, I take care of it just as you and ScentLok instruct us to do. When you say the mosquito problem isn't an issue, for you at least, my eyebrows raised a little lol. I hunt in the bottoms here in the Arkansas River Valley, next to the river obviously with tons of oxbows, backwashes, and swamps. There's no doubt Terra-Squitos trying to carry us hunters off. What can I do in addition to wearing the ScentLok suits? Even though I'm covered from scalp to ankles with ScentLok, they continue eat my arms, hands, shoulders, and face up. They so.etimes bitey rump if I have the ESS saddle just right, making my rump look like a busted can of biscuits lol. I guess that's stretching the fabric somehow and letting human skina molecules thru...I'm not sure.
Question for John Eberhart. I purchased your saddle suit by the way. But I’m kind of confused, if you don’t put your head cover on until you get in your tree how do you walk through the woods care free of wind direction?
Thanks for sharing all your knowledge, I greatly appreciate it. In regards to not wearing your head and face cover during entry and exit I completely understand in regards to that reducing perspiration but couldn’t it also increase your chances of getting winded being that the activated carbon is not covering your head?
Don’t forget a hunting career into hunting something that can hunt you. if the world goes down the drain. So this information this man is giving is pretty good.
Also paint your arms or anything shiny if you don’t have sleeves, which I don’t recommend because of body heat and flir depending on the condition of the country
Updated: I used to use scentless soap from the store and I was winded almost every single time I ever hunted. I started showering with no soap with hot water for 20 minutes and washing my clothes in just water and almost never get winded anymore. +3 years ago I began using scentlok and I honestly can’t remember the last time I was winded. It must’ve been eight years ago. Had a 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 year-old eight pointer walk right underneath my tree two years ago, never smelled me. update - John is a better hunter than Dan.
I swear. Listen to John. Some people aren’t disciplined enough to Follow the process. 2.5/3.5 year old lmao!!!!! John is very specific and he is correct. Same with the benoints in Vermont. Don’t reinvent this man. Just do as he says lol
When i hunt with either of my scentlok suits i find there is always some type of moisture either in or on them. Dew from tall grass, maybe some sweat, light rain, had to cross a creek, etc whatever. I find myself putting the suits in the dryer after every hunt before i place them back into the sealed totes. I am trying to avoid any moisture on the suit causing mold or anything in the sealed totes. Am i doing this too much or is there no such thing as too much?
Nope, you're not doing it too much, you do not want moisture in the airtight tote as it may cause mold. I do the same thing, just forgot to mention it. Thanks for the catch.
Jon. What do you typically do if nearly all the public land is thick security cover? Say a couple thousand acres of mostly dry swamp with patches of oaks and hardwoods that are surrounded by thick bedding type cover that are nearly impossible to access without bumping deer. Typically the edges get hunted quite a bit
Thanks for sharing all this important info John. It definitely works just like you said. I have been doing it just like this since I first talked to you about it years ago. Thanks again.
Thanks and it's nice to see hunters that have been properly using ScentLok and disregarding wind direction, finally get engaged and this helps to fuel the fire against the naysayers that are too lazy or not detail oriented enough to put the work forth to make it work. Thanks again
So you came up with the ambush?! Had mine for 10+ years and is absolutely my favorite piece of rain gear. Big fan of the cape to in super cold rainy shit weather
I do a wash with vinegar and dawn to start. Rinse. Scent free soap wash. Rinse well (verify not smelling vinegar and dish soap) and then let sit in sun.
I would suggest a hay colored pants to go along with the shirt just to break up the pattern of the same color as well just sneaking up on people sometimes and just basic close as all you need if you know how to use them.
Man I love my scent-lok savannah ghost strike coverall, but I can't wear it down here in the south until December when it finally gets cold. Before that is just good old shower and spray and try to stay down wind as much as possible. All scent control measures can help if you do it right.
Just curious, you use aiders on your sticks (which you wash in wash tub) but you say that you cant use stealth strips. Can't you wash stealth strips just the same as you would the aiders?
If you already stealth stripped your climbing sticks can you use a ozone generator in a room and will help with taking off the scent or should I just wash them somehow
I used activated carbon some old stuff called true carbon to get the scent off my leather shooting gloves. Kind of messy but works awesome! Might be the same stuff I’ve heard you can buy at pet stores for cleaning fish tanks
I personally do it for personal safety so I keep my veil under my shirts at all time while I’m wearing either a brown or a green type of hunting clothing if I’m wearing brown pants, I’ll try to put a green shirt on gray still works because it’s the color of tree bark And I fold my bony hat and my gloves up and took them down in my pants just in case some killer or something of that caliber gets after you and you have to disappear very quick and if you’re being manhunt, I guess Cary some bare mass to throw off any scent or not to throw the scent but to calls whatever’s tracking you a.k.a. bloodhound it’ll disrupt their nose for about 3540 minutes to give you enough time if you’re good enough and quiet enough to not move overhead, vegetation to slip out.
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge! What are your thoughts on wearing rubber gloves walking in and out instead? I can’t seem to get a small enough pair of Scentlok gloves that I can maintain fine motor skills with!
I have found some red ball boots rubber preowned and in pretty nice condition. I think they were $25 or something. Is that a good price? I use currently some newer muck boots but store them separately for scent control
Just out of curiosity have you ever tried to deodorize a piece of equipment by putting it in an airtight container with reactivated ScentLok garments and then repeatedly taking the garments out, reactivating them in the dryer and putting them back into the container? Would that work? I’m not questioning your regimen one bit and will follow it to a tee I’m just curious. I think that would be yet another way to demonstrate that the technology actually works. I have nothing but the highest respect for your skill and knowledge! I’m a huge fan and I’ve learned a lot from your videos. Thank you very much!
Just curious how John deals with the humidity of breath when wearing the head cover for long periods. It seems like i have to "drop down" the face covering every so often so I can breathe some fresh, dry air. The inside of my face cover always ends up wet! I did buy a merino wool balaclava from Icebreaker as a base headcover so it would be that that gets moist, but even so, its very difficult to have the face cover on the WHOLE time!
I'm not quite sure you could be successful doing this in a majority of places I hunt, especially during our early season. 90 degree temps, insane humidity, and hundreds of feet in elevation changes at times. You said you bring an extra base to change into if you sweat, but wouldn't your pack be wet with sweat from being on your back? Even if you bring an extra set to change into before they get to that point, you would have to use a really large pack for the numerous change of base layers you would need. I just don't see you or anyone doing such in that situation and being efficient at the same time. I could see it working if you lived in a much cooler area with no elevation changes or if you don't go very far. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they're lazy. I invite you or anyone to try early season in the mountains of GA, NC, or TN to see how well it works out.
Appreciate the videos. Can you speak to Scentlok about adding a flexible nose piece in the face mask. Have trouble with it staying up at times. A couple inches added to the bottom of the neck would help it stay tucked in better. I sent these suggestions to them and got a thank you but they never made any improvements. Thanks!
They need a lot of comments before considering changes. They could improve the headcovers and have made many modifications over the years. The did have flexible nose pieces for a few years and then took them out.
Would u use the ozone inside your bowcase to help with odors from your bow? Also, do you keep thise gloves on all the way to the tree and hunt with them? Or do u have a different pair in your pack strictly for hunting?
What about the iron and an iron board at 400° you could compress it and not burn it cause I’m thinking about throwing some charcoal in the grill letting it burn down and get to about 400 and then just take some old charcoal rub on the insidethrow the clothes on the grill until it dries them but how would you compress it or am I missing something?
Hi John, In Virginia when hunting early season (doe only) its very warm. If I'm sweating walking in and then for the first 30 mins of a sit, would I need to de-absorb the suit more often. I have worn a suit for the early season without washing or de-absorbing it and then put it back in a scent free container and it stinks pretty bad when taking it out and putting it back on. Any thoughts?
My worry would be overheating. Say if I was in my Gilly suit it’s vented and everything it’s homemade it’s not a bush Wookie suit but what if I want to hide my scent from escaping out of it without sent locking the Gilly suit because that sounds impossible and you don’t want to be detected by flir just in case the country ever goes back to 1860
I watched a few of your videos, and I am currently watching your scent control videos. So if you have a scent lock suit and you get blood on the exterior of it and the charcoal is on the inside, you don't wash the blood out? So you're saying that you can just throw it in the dryer for 40 minutes and it is going to stop the blood on the exterior from leaving scent on anything? Hmmm.
Thanks John, I got a few more new tips. I have no issues with scent control if it is not raining. I have issues when I need to enter with a rain suit since some of my best areas are slightly uphill ( 200 to 600 feet of elevation gain ). To make it worse I hunt only public land and carry everything in including my sticks each sit, so the sweat factor is high. There is just no way to dry out in the rain. Or just sitting early season in the rain I have a tendency to sweat in a rain suit. What tips do you have for these instances?
If it's so hot that I know I'm going to sweat my butt off, I typically don't go as mature bucks don't move well in hot weather anyway. Dressing for entries and exits so you don't sweat to death is an art and I plan on doing a video on it at some point. If uphill, go in extra early and take your time with your entry if it's warm.
John, do you put used scentlok suits in a separate tote? How many times can you hunt in a suit before you put it in the dryer to reabsorb? Thanks, I enjoy your videos.
That info is in the video. But I de-adsorb about every 4 hunts and maybe every other hunt when I sweat a lot. I put my SL suit back in the tote with other SL suits after a hunt and take it out to de-adsorb as needed.
Thank’s John, for another great video appreciate all you do for us hunters. I have one question, do you think that tics repellent can be used with the scentlock regiments? because here in Long Island New York tick are a big problem. Thank’s again John
We have ticks here as well and like skeeters, they are attracted to carbon dioxide order and with ScentLok the carbon adsorbs it. You can also get some strong rubber bands that will go over your boots and once you get dressed and have your pant legs draped over your boots, put on the rubber bands to keep your pant legs tight to your boots.
Great video John, I'm pretty sure i've seen that you keep your boots in an air tight tote like everything else, do you only wear a pair of boots once and move on? I worry that if you put said boot back in tote the smell from the interior of the boot may contaminate the rest of your boots that you have with you. Thoughts? thanks.
I do not put my boots in a tote and have a video on boots @: 1. Boots video part 1 - ruclips.net/video/9-qGTGIV1zE/видео.html 2. Boots video part 2 - ruclips.net/video/y7sXCDMiCqk/видео.html
Scent control rules! John, two questions on this; I’ve never turned my Scentlok inside out to de-absorb, do you think that’s activating a lot less carbon or just a little bit? Also do you wear gloves when de-absorbing your Scentlok or just bare hands? If you mentioned that in the video I missed it
The only SLok garments you need to turn inside out are windproof and waterproof garments because they have polyurethane membranes with very minimal air flow through them. Since the carbon liner is beneath the membrane, the garment needs to be inside out so the carbon can get most of the heat from the dryer. No, I never wear SLok gloves when de-adsorbing my SLok garments. I do wash my hands in scent free soap though beforee handling when they come out of the dryer and into the airtight totes.
Thai is absolutely 100% not the case and I'm shocked you even mention that. Shows your true colors and where your obligations are at. As I've said hundreds of times, I got winded regularly before I used ScentLok properly and don't since using it. My hunting heights have not changes and I've taken bucks from the ground and for conifers where I was anywhere from 12 to 20 feet up because I had plenty of cover. Please don't make comments that you know are meaningless to others.
Ray, I have answered that same question a hundred times and thought you were being just another naysayer, if that is not the case, I apologize. Height has nothing to do with it though. Thermals almost always take your scent down to the ground so they would smell me farther out for sure. I used to get winded all the time from the same heights. If a deer came in from upwind and moved past me maybe 15 yards to feed and I was up 25 feet, yes, my wind would go over him if there were any wind at all. If he continued to move downwind, he would eventually cut into my downward thermals and wind me.
@@johneberhart4062 I really respect you as a hunter and the accomplishments you’ve made. I’ve learned a lot from your videos and I guess I’m not educated enough In your style of hunting and shouldn’t have came off like that. My apologies.
I follow pretty much every thing u do to a T.. but I was wondering if it's ok to spray down my bow and bottom of boots with spray? I always have. also should socks be a one and done?
I never use sprays as they contain sodium bicarbonate which has its own odor which is foreign. There should never be a reason the have odors on your boots if they are kept clean and put on and off with your ScentLok gloves on. Unless a sock is wet, I may wear it again. Socks are in your waterproof boots so no interior odors can escape through the boot. I just put the used socks in a grocery plastic bag and use them again if not wet with sweat.
Remember Wind if you play the Wind you will win and scent control put on your hunting clothes and go rake up your leaves best scent control you ever invest in .
If you can give any information about what to do with my bow because I shoot it all the time but I don’t use my gloves. It’s kept out of human scent but than again I use my bear hands.
That's simple, wipe your bow grip down with a scent free wipe before hunting and try not to molest your entire bow when practicing, just touch the grip.
You do look sharp man! I don't want to look cool I want not to be seen I love wearing my camo I've found a pattern that looks like you're looking up.at the sky through foliage works breaking g up outline
Do you think the Glycerin scent free/ rinse free antibacterial hand soap rather than the scent free wipes would work just as well? Also will the John Eberhart scentlok suit be 100% waterproof or do you feel it’s a good idea to wear the Rivers West rain suit over it? Wonderful video! Hats off to you and your retirement.🎊🎉 I thought I was doing it right, but after watching this I was way off…lol. Thank you. Been a Scentlok guy since the late 90’s and wouldn’t wear anything else. I would never wear a face mask in the early season. Can’t say enough on how much you have helped me out with my hunting etc. thank you and good luck this season and many more.🦌🦌🏹🍀💪🏼
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this. Just ordered 2 suits from head to toe, plus the grinder pack. Just trying to figure out this saddle stuff. 👍🏻
email me on your issues with the saddle stuff and I'll help you out and maybe call you. deerjohn51@gmail.com
I think it’s just the best way because sweating is much worse and you will sweat your ass off with one on ha
Some people aren’t disciplined enough to
Follow the process. 2.5/3.5 year old lmao!!!!! John is very specific and he is correct. Same with the benoints in Vermont. Don’t reinvent this man. Just do as he says lol
Thanks John, for another great video. Great stuff!
Thanks Carl
John I could’ve sworn I seen you in the Smokies last week.
Great overview. What backpack are you currently using? I notice it folds flat to the tree unlike a lot of other ones that are out there
When i hunt with either of my scentlok suits i find there is always some type of moisture either in or on them.
@@johneberhart4062 thanks for taking the time to reply John!
Make a nice trail from that to a food source, trust me deer will use a path you blaze 1 to 2 weeks after. They are lazy too
Thanks for sharing all this important info John.
Great video John, thank you for the good info.
So you came up with the ambush?! Had mine for 10+ years and is absolutely my favorite piece of rain gear. Big fan of the cape to in super cold rainy shit weather
Love the in depth step by step information in these videos. Have you ever used Camo Dust or anything like it?
John, you’re a legend !
My wife still thinks I'm an ass.
Love the information. What do you do about the plastic smell from tote or bag when it is new?
I do a wash with vinegar and dawn to start. Rinse. Scent free soap wash. Rinse well (verify not smelling vinegar and dish soap) and then let sit in sun.
I would suggest a hay colored pants to go along with the shirt just to break up the pattern of the same color as well just sneaking up on people sometimes and just basic close as all you need if you know how to use them.
What about the iron?
Man I love my scent-lok savannah ghost strike coverall, but I can't wear it down here in the south until December when it finally gets cold. Before that is just good old shower and spray and try to stay down wind as much as possible. All scent control measures can help if you do it right.
Just curious, you use aiders on your sticks (which you wash in wash tub) but you say that you cant use stealth strips. Can't you wash stealth strips just the same as you would the aiders?
If you already stealth stripped your climbing sticks can you use a ozone generator in a room and will help with taking off the scent or should I just wash them somehow
Right on John! Thanks again.
Excellent video John.
How do you get rid of leather smell on a bow shooting glove or tab? I tried everything!
Lmao I’m saying though gloves are trash for small hands
Thanks for the information. For a brand new Scentlok coat/pant- should you place in the dryer prior to use or just use it right out of the box?
Can you put activated charcoal and a pot on the stove and bring it to a 400° temperature while? It’s wet and then compress it?
Thanks John. Do you think storing my suits in the hot attic for the summer is a problem? Of course they are in sealed totes.
No, that shouldn't be an issue. I store some in the top of my garage which gets really hot in the summer and no issues.
The did have flexible nose pieces for a few years and then took them out.
hey Lynn I was having the same problem so I sawed so elastic around the back off the hood to pull it tighter
Would u use the ozone inside your bowcase to help with odors from your bow? Also, do you keep thise gloves on all the way to the tree and hunt with them? Or do u have a different pair in your pack strictly for hunting?
Thank you sir love your stories and tips
Maybe I missed it but what do you do to prepare a new set of scentlik clothes for hunting? Do you wash them before use?
Love your views want is the inner head mask you whare under you sent lock head mask?
What about the iron and an iron board at 400° you could compress it and not burn it cause I’m thinking about throwing some charcoal in the grill letting it burn down and get to about 400 and then just take some old charcoal rub on the insidethrow the clothes on the grill until it dries them but how would you compress it or am I missing something?
good job Jhon
Thanks
Thank you! Love to see the correct way, in case I haven't been doing it. Also...., Is this a hunting channel or GQ?? Looking very svelte!
Thanks and it was simply for the reason I mentioned in the opener.
what do you do about the reflection on your prescription glasses.
Thanks for the info,I own some scentlok items would you ozone scentlok?.
do you wash your scent lok headcovers and baselayers after wearing them a couple times and get snot and sweat on them? thats what im torn by.
Hi John, I was wondering what your take is on the ScentLok Nfuse Ozone Sprayer for the bottom of boots? Thanks
John is cool as a fan
Well thank you Bill
When does the saddle suit come out, and can we pre order
Fantastic thank you 🙏
Great video John, I'm pretty sure i've seen that you keep your boots in an air tight tote like everything else, do you only wear a pair of boots once and move on? I worry that if you put said boot back in tote the smell from the interior of the boot may contaminate the rest of your boots that you have with you. Thoughts? thanks.
I do not put my boots in a tote and have a video on boots @: 1. Boots video part 1 - ruclips.net/video/9-qGTGIV1zE/видео.html
2. Boots video part 2 - ruclips.net/video/y7sXCDMiCqk/видео.html
My complaint about this video is now I have to change what I do and copy you!
When you eat your lunch do you keep your gloves on or just take them off? Great video John Eberhart 👍
I typically take of my right hand glove.
Do you were your gloves in the tree once your setup?
Thanks For the Details. Thoughts on the Hecs Suits ?
Know some good honest hunters that have used it with no noticeable difference, but have never used one myself.
That pad is great if used correctly u put that in the dryer and then in a tote
Would standard charcoal work as active carbon?
@@johneberhart4062 makes sense! Thank you sir
Do you tuck your scentlok pant legs into your boots?
I soaked my E.S.S in scent free detergent and it discolored the buckles , I don't think it's anything major but just look out for it
Discolored buckles won't matter.
How about your scentlok backpack?
I have a feeling that scent control is coming more from your hunting height in the tree then anything else.
@@johneberhart4062 that was a really childish response to a simple suggestion that maybe height played a role.
@@rayblevins6252 No, your reply was OK, I shouldn't assume everyone has read all my replies from so many different questions.
Do you wash your scentlok when you first buy it
Remember Wind if you play the Wind you will win and scent control put on your hunting clothes and go rake up your leaves best scent control you ever invest in .
So sometime u do wash Scentlock suit
Once in a blue moon. Maybe once every 2 seasons per suit and use very minimal detergent when doing so.
Ass or no ass experience speaks for itself and I'm hooked 💯
Thanks Denny
If you can give any information about what to do with my bow because I shoot it all the time but I don’t use my gloves. It’s kept out of human scent but than again I use my bear hands.
That's simple, wipe your bow grip down with a scent free wipe before hunting and try not to molest your entire bow when practicing, just touch the grip.
@@johneberhart4062 thanks John
You do look sharp man! I don't want to look cool I want not to be seen I love wearing my camo I've found a pattern that looks like you're looking up.at the sky through foliage works breaking g up outline
Do you think the Glycerin scent free/ rinse free antibacterial hand soap rather than the scent free wipes would work just as well?
Also will the John Eberhart scentlok suit be 100% waterproof or do you feel it’s a good idea to wear the Rivers West rain suit over it?
Great video, I look forward to using your signature suit and scent control system this season.
I'm not familiar with that particular soap, but if it is labeled scent free, I'm certain it would be fine.

I do shoot with gloves on.
