      It's called an auto transport, I've towed SUVs and some trucks on it, including a K3500 one ton diesel, SRW, but it was a regular cab with a wheel base of 135. The limit on the auto transport is 135.5 inches, so I only had half an inch to spare.

    Ok. So I’m one of the idiots that actually did this. I towed my Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab just like this one one a u haul car hauler. I got the truck as far up as I could, aired down the front tires strapped them down, then lifted the back end of the truck with a wood block and a jack, slid the ramps half way in. Tied everything down and drove it over 100 miles away. Was it’s sketchy? Yes but it worked sooooo….

      +ForMeTo PoopOn Back in 2006, my wife and I moved from Georgia to North Dakota, and we wanted to haul a 1997 Chevy 2 wheel drive standard cab pickup on this same kind of vehicle hauler trailer. The U-Haul dealership told us that truck was too heavy to haul on that trailer. It is probably at least 1000 lbs lighter than this extended cab 4X4...no front differential, transfer case or extended cab sheet metal.

      @@vivillager this is great. I need to tow a 5700lbs expedition from Michigan to California at this cold and snow climate. This was a very good comment I read today. How do you sleep on the road? In hotels or inside your truck? Any advise?

    • @vivillager
      @vivillager 2 года назад +1

      @@RashidROwlia, I've slept in both in the truck, as well as in hotels, depending on how far I'm driving, how much space I have to stretch out in the truck, if I'm alone or have passengers. As far as advice, know the limits of the brakes of the U-Haul. The last time I rented a U-Haul was a year ago, after that I purchased my own trailer. The trailer I have now has electric brakes that are independent of the brakes of the towing vehicle. U-Hauls, on the other hand, have Surge Brakes. Trailers with Surge Brakes have a hitch coupler that can slide back and forth. When the tow vehicle slows, the coupler will collapse, compressing an internal master brake cylinder that applies brake pressure to the wheels of the trailer. This means that the U-Haul depends on the tow vehicle slowing down to apply brake pressure. So if you are driving on a road with limited traction, and your tow vehicle has little braking capability, then the U-Haul behind you will make little to no effort at braking. I encountered the same the last time i rented a U-Haul. Last year, the winter that hit Texas hard, there was a 130 car pile up on West I-35 in Fort Worth. I was about 15 miles east of that on I-30 when I pulled off freeway to inspect my rig, at a speed of about 5 MPH, I slid for about 100 feet until I bumped against a curb and stopped my truck. The U-Haul behind me didn't help. Keep this in mind as you tow a U-Haul during the winter, especially when going down hill. I don't know how much towing experience you have, but remember the importance of tongue weight, and the dangers of not having enough. Most trailer sway accidents are due to insufficient tongue weight. U-Haul has a video on youtube explaining tongue weight, and what happens if you don't have enough of it. Just remember that your Expedition has the engine in the front, so that makes the front axle heavier than the rear axle, so load your Expedition nose-first so that you have good tongue weight.

      @@vivillager Thanks for your quick reply. I am using a 2018 chevy silverado 1500 double cab 5.3 4*4 to tow the 2019 expedition max (longer version) on the uhaul auto transport. I read about tongue weight but didnt understand it well. Can you calculate it for my towing.
      Thank you so much!
      I hope my silverado has enough braking power (I am a little worried since I am driving in the cold and snowy weather. I have to go to Laramie Wyoming and that scares me. Even when I was just driving 40 mph from california to Michigan my truck was sliding. I was super lucky that the black ice on the road didn’t cause any issues. I slowly braked and I fortunately the car behind me also was able to control his car.
      Yeah, I was wondering if you can update me about my braking power on the silverado and the tongue weight on my trailer so hopefully those are in a hood range so I feel safer to drive back home.
      Thanks a lot for sharing your information.

  • @ryanalexander984
    @ryanalexander984 24 дня назад

    Not worth it. You are clearly voiding the U-Haul policy on transporting. If anything were to happen while towing you would be 100% on the hook for all damages and claims. Tire blows out on the trailer causing you to swerve and hit someone or something, no insurance in the world is going to stand behind you. So dumb.
