Nobody here disputes Dick Dale is the king of surf guitar . This video was shot when our band was brand new and it was 100 degrees out that day if I recall. Here's a recent video, again we're not competing with Dick Dale. It's an homage to him. Incidentally he saw us play not too long ago and was very complimentary, which has made me very proud.
wishuhadmyname Yeah me too -but in a way, this really isn't too far from Cyanide Christ. The groove is a little different though. I think this is actually Jens Kidman's sidegroup - he looks little like the keyboard guy.
thanks Surf Collector. We in the surf music community recognize that instrumental bands are at a disadvantage not having a front person/singer. Thus most bands are hard to identify except to the extreme surf fans. This is why lots of bands dress up or have some kind of shtick. Believe me, if the first time we wore the outfits and the audience didn't like it or was interested we would have dropped them. But the fact is, people love them. It makes them happy, so it makes us happy.
I've been a fan of Meshugga Beach Party for several years, and although I'm a Gentile, I've been preaching the gospel of MBP to others who are not "of the Tribe," in the hopes that they, too, can be converted!
The King of the Surf Guitar, Dick Dale, was born Richard Monsoor to a Lebanese father, so like many great Americans (Bobby Rahal, Casey Kasem, Tony Shalhoub, Danny Kaye among the most famous) he is of Arab descent. He is noted for the middle eastern influences on his music. Misirlou itself is an old Greek song, and the name translates, ironically enough, to "Egyptian Girl". Good luck to your song on learning the guitar. He can't go wrong with Dick Dale!
These meshuggenah kids are welcome to The Oasis anytime - they are superb; they should have a jam with The Sheiks of Araby Danceband.. I would pay a thousand shekels to see that!!
I've seen from Egypitan themed death metal to Taiwaneese symphonic black metal and ALL kinds of underground stuff inbetween. I thought I'd seen it all....untill now. FANTASTIC! Please tell me there'll be a tour!?!?
I've heard Miserlou done surfer style, but not Hava Nagila - and mixing the two, what a blast! If you're looking for the 1927 Greek version, try spelling it Misirlou. Apparently, there were even earlier versions from Egypt and thereabouts.
I love good instrumentals. My friend introduced me to surf music years ago, I went to some fun concerts in L.A., and have enjoyed it since. That was great.
I actually thought this was the metal band Meshuggah playing "Hava Nagila", man that would have been really cool. Still good though- fun performance. Love that Dick Dale surfy guitar tone
@@frankmartinez2987 Well we returned to the States a few months after I posted the comment above. Then COVID hit, and then my daughter developed severe Misophonia, so no party for her, unfortunately.
The live sound is just great. Lets hope that Meshugga-Mel puts out an live dvd/cd... I will buying 2 at once! This is how it shuld sound. Their Oh Hannukah video here is superb to! Mazeltov
Great!.. Love it, played it over and over..and shared it! I'd like to see you guys turn other tunes into surf.. There is a group in Branson that can turn anything into bluegrass, I'd like to hear the same for surf.. GREAT JOB!
@kalibunar007 Thanks Kalibunar007. Croatia is home to one of my very favorite bands - The Bambi Molesters and birthplace of surf guitar genius Ivan Pongracic
Fortunately surf music isn't a competition, it's about making a joyful noise. That said, do you really think DD played the piano, trumpet, lead and rhythm guitar all at the same time on his recording of Hava Nagila and Misirlou?
I can't believe I'm listening to this for free

I actually thought this was the metal band Meshuggah playing "Hava Nagila", man that would have been really cool.

DD is one of the world's two greatest left-handed guitar players.
The other is Jimi Hendrix.
I think I have a new favorite song. This will sound incredible in my 57.
I so absolutely love this. In my fantasies I'd have them come to Denmark and play at my daughter's Bat Mitzvah.
Any luck?
