it's such a relief to see people who i'm looking up to in terms of learning languages spend not much time studying when feeling unwell or just not feeling like it! it reminded me how language learning isn't a competition and everyone has a different pace and may slow down from time to time. i had quite an unpleasant depressive episode last month and i failed to commit enough time to my target languages as i had planned. i felt frustrated about it. so i'm glad to know that it's okay if there are such epidoses. you're sooo inspiring! i absolutely adore your channel! may your second quarter be a success ❤️

Such an important point to make that we have “off weeks” due to human things (being sick, busy with work, not feelin it, etc.) and to not pressure ourselves to always have set times and expectations. Consistency isn’t something we have to promise ourselves, just as long as we can feel satisfied with even the smallest progress. Awesome points as always, thank you!

I just found your channel today. You have given me several ideas on how to incorporate language learning into my day. I’m a stay at home mom with a five month old daughter. I’ve been on and off learning Japanese for a few years. I’d like to start learning Lebanese Arabic (my in laws are from Lebanon) and American Sign Language. Right now, I’m learning Spanish, French, Ukrainian (super hard so far), and Japanese. Of course, these are interchangeable and it’s no pressure to study all the languages all the time. I'm not too into learning languages (only trying to brush up on German and occasionally learning some Spanish on Duolingo), but one thing I'd recommend is to read a book you really like and have read before in your target language! I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for like the 4th time, but in German instead of English.
@William Hancock I haven't tried it, but maybe other books for young people like Percy Jackson. I also read "the boy in the striped pajamas" in German.

I had great experience with Swedish Duolingo. You definitely can't use it alone, but it was great for teaching me basic grammar and extensive vocab through context and repetition. I won't be using it for Japanese (tried that course years ago and hated it), but will do it again in a heartbeat for Spanish and some harder to find languages.

The plan is so detailed and suited for many people. i keep the record immediately your method. So i have been meaning to learn english for the long time, i wouldn't do elbow grease in the future or listen earful all day from boss. So now i am getting better for doing english stuffs everyday not hang out or watch flick like another. Success will come to pp who put effort day by day not because of fluck....
For Time Tracking I love ATracker, you can breakup by app/resource and then be able to tag if it's say speaking or writing, kanji, reading etc. This is available on Apple store. It also does reports to show you how much by app/resource and also by the tag. I think it looks better than Toggle (though I haven't used Toggle) ATracker is very nice and easy to use. I track all my time and at the end of the week I just print a report simple. Cheers Not affiliated in anyway.

I use DuoLingo for Spanish and I honestly think the paid version is worth it just to get through the lessons / language tree faster. It's been a good supplement to my Spanish reading.
@@jasminedubois6711 Oh I so understand this! I think I’ve made my peace with it by understanding what it is actually used for, and how I find it most useful: learning new alphabets and reviewing vocabulary. You can’t fully learn a language there, but it can help supplement your studies.
@@jasminedubois6711 Yeah, I think it's a good supplement app. I spend about 70% of my Spanish studies reading with the help of LingQ and the rest speeding through Duo. I'm finding that Duo is really good at cementing grammar structures and conjugations in my head since it over does it on the repetition. I definitely could not use the free version though. Each lesson group is like 100 questions pounding the same vocab and grammar. It's way too much IMO, especially for English>Spanish where there are so many cognates. The context of all vocab is also so all over the place that I definitely don't remember it as well as I remember vocab from reading authentic content. The "Free" version of the app cost me a lot of time in the beginning.

For now, I have a blog post about how to make the most out of italki lessons that might be helpful: lindiebotes.com/2020/06/19/italki-review-free-credits/ I usually book structured lessons and then the structuring is up to the tutor to decide what we learn, and I'm open about my feedback to them on what works and what doesn't. If you're talking about conversation classes, that's a little different.

Thanks for watching Ben! Ooh ...i think conceptually drops is cool but I'm not a fan of the UI at all! It's actually one of the reasons I deleted the app to be honest. I know lots of people like it but it's just not for me. It felt slow and I wasn't seeing words in context of phrases. But it's great if you like it ! Everyone has different preferences 🎉

I just discovered your channel, so cool! I am picking up tips and tricks and mulling them over to see what i would like to try. I saw the video for language stacking which fascinated me because i heard Spanish was so similar to english that there are words if you just change the ending it means the same in english or Spanish and the pronunciation is very slightly different. So cool. That helps build a great framework which can be built on and as such now i am looking for framework building hacks for different languages i am interested in and that lead me to find the language stacking video you made. So cool! Thank you. PS: on an aside i hope this isn’t offensive 🤭 but as a native english speaker i noticed you keep not pronouncing the first r in quarter,…. You sound like quahter or even sometimes Kahter it took me a few times hearing it before I realized what you meant, it should be more qu(art)-er if you see the word art in the middle you wouldn’t drop the r. So 2 syllables quart-er. It also sounds like saying the word wort. So q(wort)-er. Now to be savage in a native canadian accent we almost make the T sound half way to a D sound part of the time. Isn’t there a korean consonant that sounds part way between a D and T sound? If so, use that your native Canadian then 🤣🤣 Please don’t be offended i checked the comments, didn’t see this pointed out and figured a cheerful language nerd might like to have that pointed out for future use. Saying this i also realize maybe you learned a different english speaking accent than me maybe? I am Canadian so its entirely possible your English teacher was from somewhere else that does pronounce it like that or english was their 5th language and they had an accent while teaching, i truly don’t know, but much respect. For me i am still stuck in monolingual land, so i am not preaching in any way, Have a good day and thank you again. 🙂

Hi Lindie, I would like to know what do you consider as studying? E.g. you did Hungarian for 1 hour, so does it mean you did active learning (writing, speaking, grammar, vocabulary), or is it any activity such as passive learning? (reading, listening to a podcast, watching something), thank you in advance!

Sure thing! I'll think about a video like that. For now, I have a blog post about how to make the most out of italki lessons that might be helpful: lindiebotes.com/2020/06/19/italki-review-free-credits/ I usually book structured lessons and then the structuring is up to the tutor to decide what we learn, and I'm open about my feedback to them on what works and what doesn't. If you're talking about conversation classes, that's a little different.

That's hard because I don't plan the curriculum, i leave it up to the tutor to plan the lessons and give them feedback 😅

Thanks for watching Ben! Ooh ...i think conceptually drops is cool but I'm not a fan of the UI at all! It's actually one of the reasons I deleted the app to be honest. I know lots of people like it but it's just not for me. It felt slow and I wasn't seeing words in context of phrases. But it's great if you like it ! Everyone has different preferences 🎉
@@LindieBotes I wasn't expecting such a passionate response! Lol. Thanks for the feedback. I love the simplicity and the visuals of the app. I'm currently using it for Arabic. I probably wouldn't use it as much for my other languages, as I make my own flash cards and can space them based on my strengths. However, typing in Arabic is a pain and I love having the pronunciation with it! I'm loving it so far. Much love from America, and good luck this quarter!

I just discovered your channel, so cool! I am picking up tips and tricks and mulling them over to see what i would like to try. I saw the video for language stacking which fascinated me because i heard Spanish was so similar to english that there are words if you just change the ending it means the same in english or Spanish and the pronunciation is very slightly different. So cool. That helps build a great framework which can be built on and as such now i am looking for framework building hacks for different languages i am interested in and that lead me to find the language stacking video you made. So cool! Thank you.
PS: on an aside i hope this isn’t offensive 🤭 but as a native english speaker i noticed you keep not pronouncing the first r in quarter,…. You sound like quahter or even sometimes Kahter it took me a few times hearing it before I realized what you meant, it should be more qu(art)-er if you see the word art in the middle you wouldn’t drop the r. So 2 syllables quart-er. It also sounds like saying the word wort. So q(wort)-er. Now to be savage in a native canadian accent we almost make the T sound half way to a D sound part of the time. Isn’t there a korean consonant that sounds part way between a D and T sound? If so, use that your native Canadian then 🤣🤣
Please don’t be offended i checked the comments, didn’t see this pointed out and figured a cheerful language nerd might like to have that pointed out for future use. Saying this i also realize maybe you learned a different english speaking accent than me maybe? I am Canadian so its entirely possible your English teacher was from somewhere else that does pronounce it like that or english was their 5th language and they had an accent while teaching, i truly don’t know, but much respect. For me i am still stuck in monolingual land, so i am not preaching in any way,

My Hungarian videos mention it already. I have a few reasons, but mostly because I like how it sounds and I enjoy listening to Hungarian music. I also like the challenge of the grammar!
