What would we do without your invaluable information. You know I have so much trouble with crackling, even when I follow the directions. You’ve taken the guesswork out of the equation by showing the names of the products, how to prepare the surface, painting and which types to use, antiquing and various types of crackles. My favorite is the porcelain look. It’s so rich and antique looking. Can’t thank you enough for your help. I will keep this video forever as my Crackle Bible! All your work and help is so greatly appreciated by me and I’m sure many others.
Hi there Gizmo my friend! I'm so glad to hear that you found this video valuable and helpful. There are so many crackle methods and each one of them has such a different end result. I thought I'd do a video explaining how to use each one and what you can expect to see on your project. I can remember being very confused at one time. I was using the classic crackle and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. What I wanted was the end result that the fineline crackle gives you. By the way, that is my all time favorite as well. I love how it looks like aged porcelain. I use that one A LOT! lol... Let me know if there are any other crafting techniques that you'd like me to do an in depth video on, like this one. I was thinking of doing one explaining exactly how to do the water method decoupage. Any interest in that? I think you said you were having problems with that one. As always, thanks for being such a wonderful fan and friend! And thanks for always watching and taking time to message me 🥰😘🤗
@@masoncreationsetc I WILL ALWAYS WATCH YOUR VIDEOS! I know I’m always getting the best of everything when I do. Think I’ve seen the water method of decoupage from your video, but it never hurts to learn more, and I learn so much from you all the time. You’re the teacher, I’m the student hoping to become as good as you!
Hi there! You are so sweet 😘😘😘 I was also thinking of doing an in depth video on the paper bead rolling as well. There is so much you can do with those. They're a lot of fun to make.
@@masoncreationsetc speaking of paper rolling; the other day, I had to sharpen my eyeliner pencil, and what to my surprise, but what came out was a little rolled piece of the wood that looked like a tiny Rose, and depending on the color of the stick, that color lines the very top of the Rose. Now the size of the rose depends on the size of the crayon that you’re using or the eyebrow or liner stick, and therefore would need a bigger hole to trim it, so the rose would be bigger. Does that sound crazy? I haven’t tried Dowel rods yet in those sharpeners, but that’s my next adventure. There may be occasions where a small flower would be appropriate instead of buying artificial ones in the store that cost money. I’m still trying to figure out how my crazy brain works, and how it always cost me more time and labor. I just recently learned, that my first grand-dog went “over the rainbow”Wednesday before Easter, an expression i’ve never heard of before, but thought was so beautiful, and that brought another thought into my crazy mind. Can you create a plaque for a dog that has gone “over the rainbow”? I hope that’s not too crazy challenging for you, but I have all the faith in the world that you’ll come up with something so beautiful and heartwarming. Our pets are just like our children, and she was a miniature pincher and quite a feisty little lady! I bought a rectangular wooden plaque in Walmart, but haven’t started anything yet. Hoping I can get more inspiration from you. Thanks!
Oh goodness, I love the idea of the little roses! You could do that with colored pencils. Once you glue it together, you could paint and antique them. I'd add them to lots of crafts. I think that would be so cute. Little mini roses 🌹 I can definitely do an "over the rainbow" plaque. I think that would be so beautiful. Pictures of dogs and rainbows 💕🐶🌈
Thank you for this! I’ve watched other videos but didn’t really get a good feel for what would work best for me. Yours made it clear: Pentart Fine Crackle for me!
Hi there! Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! The Fineline Crackle is totally my favorite too. I use it a lot. I just love the old cracked porcelain look. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
I really appreciate your videos! Although I haven't tried it yet, you create beautiful things that inspire me. I know there are many steps involved, but I'm determined to give it a shot without messing it up. I'm watching from Babson Park, a small town in Central Florida. Please continue making these fantastic videos; they truly are great!

Thank you for the instructions about using crackle paint. I didn't know that solvent based paint is used to highlight the fine crackle method. That is very helpful!!
Hi Margie, I'm so happy that you found this tutorial helpful. You definitely don't want to put anything water based over the Fineline crackle. Trust me, I've done it and it makes a gooey mess. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi Darla! You're welcome and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! I'm so happy to have eased your mind a little bit. I’m from Red Bluff, CA. Thank you for your tutorial for the Fineline crackle varnish. I’m glad I watched, I was going to use waterbase paint and did not realize that it can not be used with the fineline crackle. ❤
Hi there. You can use water based paint before you put on the crackle. But once you add step 1 and step 2 of the crackle, you can no longer use anything water based at all. I'm going to leave you a safe link for the Pentart solvent based gloss varnish and the Pentart antique paste. I recommend both of these products. I did some experimenting and found out that the Pentart varnish is formulated to work with the fineline crackle. I used a different brand of varnish and it cracked over top of my fineline crackle, so it didn't look very good. For the best outcome you'll need to use the Pentart varnish. Hi, I am watching from Vienna, Austria. Awesome video! Is there a way to make the cracks even bigger when using the crackle medium in the first part? Much appreciated 🙏
Hi Stefan! Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! You can put the product on thicker and that may give you a little bit bigger cracks. Most crackle mediums are a chemical reaction between the medium and the paint, which is what causes the cracks. You are almost always at the mercy of the medium. Sometimes putting it on thicker helps, but not always. Sometimes heat from a blow dryer will help as well. Try the one using Elmer's glue, those come out pretty big. Do some samples on scrap wood to make sure you like what you're getting, before you do it on your actual project. I'm a fan of doing samples. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
I love using Pentart's 2 Part Fine Line Crackle Varnish, it gives craft projects a great vintage look. I've never used oil paint to highlight the cracks, but I do use eye shadow powder for the same effect, especially because eye shadow has mica powder in it. I also use Dixie Belle's 'Dirt' which is a pigment that's made for antiquing furniture, but it's also perfect for using over the Fine Line Crackle Varnish. I live in Melbourne, Australia BTW. Thanks for a great video tutorial. Love from Amanda Jones ❤️
Hi Amanda! Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! Give the oil paint a try sometime. Since it comes in colors, you can get really creative with your finishes. In your suggested video you are using a gold paint. I bought a few different ones but all very disappointing even after 3 layers. Which one are you recommending?? Ty for all your help!!

Hi, Donna: thx for the tutorial❤. I would like to use the Pantart fineline crackle varnish on watercolor paper or canvas, I have a few Q: 1) do you think it will work? 2) do I need to prime the paper or canvas before applying the crackle varnish? Love to hear back from you Thanks 🙏
Hi Fong, I've never tried the fineline crackle on paper or canvas. Both are textured which will give you a completely different outcome than what you are going to want from the fineline crackle. Fineline is designed to make things look like aged porcelain, which would be cracked but still shiny. The texture will take away from the shine. I would try it on a couple of sample pieces before you put it on an actual project, just to make sure you're going to be happy with the results over a textured base. Let me know how it goes. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi Nikkie! Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed this video and found it helpful! Elmer's is basically pva glue, so it should work. I would do a little sample first before doing it on your actual project. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

Hi Diana. I am wanting to do a painting on wood. I want it to have aged craks, peeling paint and aold wjeathered look in the finnished painting. Could you please advise as what comes first. The crackle look, peeling paint the whathered finnish or the painting. Many thanks. RITA
Hi Rita, I've never done a project like what you're describing, but if I were to do it, this is what I believe would work. I would do the crackle finish first and then paint over the crackle. The type of crackle that you want, you won't be able to put over your painting. It needs to go between two layers of paint. Paint your board a dark color, let it dry and then paint Folkart crackle medium and let dry. Then paint your contrasting color like a white or cream. It will start cracking as you are putting the paint on. After it dries, paint your picture. You could probably do some antiquing afterwards to make sure the cracks show where you painted your picture. Here's a video where I used that crackle technique. I didn't paint a picture over it though. I believe that this is what you're wanting to do. Tim from San Diego here with a question. I'm using FolkArt crackle medium on a project. Will I get the good crackle effect if I use a rattle can to spray the top color over the Crackle medium? The spray paint is an acrylic. I'm using a spray because I want to end up with a smoother surface than if I used a brush on top coat. Thanks very much!
Hi Tim, I normally use acrylic or latex paint. I haven't ever tried using spray paint. But it's paint, so it should work, but I'm not sure. I would try it on a little sample and see what happens. Please let me know if you do try it. I'd love to know if it works. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

Very informative video. You have a nice voice. I want to crackle paint a metal light fixture. Can I apply a crackle right to th metal without painting it first? So you have ny suggestions?
Hi Virginia! Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! If you want it to look like the metal is cracked you don't have to paint it first. However, I would definitely add a clear primer. Polyvine multi surface lacquer in a matte finish is perfect for that. If you want to paint it a color, make sure you add the Polyvine multi surface lacquer prior to the paint. I'll leave a link for you below so you can find it easily. Let me know if you have any other questions. Which crackle are you going to use? Hello! Can you use Decoart one step crackle over a painted metal, or rusted metal that has been cleaned? An old sign or an old rusty saw? Allow the sign or saw’s color be The color that crackles through? Or should it be coated first, with a clear sealer perhaps?? I would rather allow the real color of the piece come through. I hope I’m making sense. Thanks !
Hi Kel, This is an interesting question. Decoart one step crackle is meant to be put between two layers of paint. Now weather a coat of clear sealer could be one of the layers of paint, I'm not sure. Here's what I would do. I'm a fan of doing samples. I have an entire basket full of failures and successes. I keep them all for reference...lol... Dollar Tree carries all kinds of metal items in their craft section. Get one of those coat it with clear sealer and let dry, add your crackle and let dry, then add a coat of paint. See what happens, If it doesn't work, you know that you'll need to do a base coat of paint on the saw. I love your idea. It sounds pretty cool. Let me know if it works, I'd love to hear back from you. I'm curious myself. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
I got it!! Took many different tries. Was NOT able to do with polyvine. I DID seal the saw with multisurface(2 coats) and dried overnight. Then clear school glue
Hi there, I've never used crackle medium on something that large or something with heavy use. Which one were you thinking of using? Fineline Crackle definitely will not hold up in that application. Hello I think I would need your help about The pentart crackle varnish. I bought it for my craft but no crakles are appearing even if I followed the guidelines. Do you know why? I applied the two components on rice paper I'm looking forward to seeing your answer. Thank you again for your help Jenn
Hi Jenn, It may need a little heat. Did you try a blow dryer for a few minutes? Sometimes the cracks are there, but they're hard to see. Heat will bring them out. Just a couple troubleshooting questions: Did you let component #1 dry completely before adding component # 2? Component #1 needs to turn complete clear before moving to the next component. Have you added any antiquing yet? Give it a try, the cracks may appear. Did you get Fineline crackle or Classic crackle? Each one will react differently to the type of antique you use. Fineline requires a solvent based antique, such as oil paint. Classic will need a water based antique. Let me know if you need any additional help. If it's cold and damp where you are, it may just need some heat, try the blow dryer. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi Debbie I have never tried epoxy over the fineline crackle. However epoxy is not water based, so it should work fine. Water based products will ruin the crackle. You can definitely use the mica powder. I use it all the time with the fineline crackle. I would try it on a sample piece of something first and make sure the epoxy works. I wouldn't try it on your project until you are confident it works well. I save empty jam jars or pickle jars to try things on. I never try something new on my actual project until I know it works 😊 Let me know how it does, I'd love to know. And I'd love to see pictures. Hi, I’m from Indiana and I’ve been trying to do some metal sconces with crackle and it’s not working out for me. I thought you had to use, because I’m using spray paint as a base then crackle and then spraying on another color and I thought it was supposed to be black paint, correct about the flat paint?
Hi there, I'm going to say that spray paint is the problem. Most of the crackle mediums are meant to use with acrylic or latex paints. It's a chemical reaction that causes the cracking effect. Try painting with brush on craft paint and that should solve your problem. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi there, Yes you can use a heat gun or a blow dryer to speed it up. If you put the coats on thicker you should get deeper cracks. Be careful with the fineline crackle though, too much heat will give you tons of additional cracks that defeat the purpose of the aged porcelain. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
I watched an episode of For The Love of Kitchens the form and function episode. How do they crackle a painted floral cabinet back after the design has been painted on. I have to know how they do this.
Hi Janis, Most of the crackles that I know of needs to be between 2 layers of paint. Other than Pentart crackle, which can go over an image. But it wouldn't be suitable for furniture or cabinets. I wish I knew as well. If you ever find out, please let me know. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Stumbled across it accidentally and really enjoyed your video. I have a question. What solvent based varnishes you’re using to cover and what solvent-based cleaners are you using to clean your brushes with the fine line crackle Pentart brand products? Thank
Hi there! I'm so glad you stumbled across my channel and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! The solvent based varnish I use is by Winsor & Newton. I normally use it in gloss. I just use plain ole ordinary paint thinner to clean my brushes. I pour a little bit of it in a glass jar and keep it for cleaning any brushes that I've used that require a solvent. The Pentart Fine Line Crackle varnish is actually water based and will clean up with soap and water. I use Speedball pink soap to clean brushes that have been used for water based products. Hi Desie, You can only use solvent based antiques and varnishes on fineline crackle. The brown paste you used, was it water based? Were you able to clean your brush with soap and water? That would cause that type of problem. Pentart's antique paste is oil based and must be cleaned off your brush with a solvent like turpentine. That would be what you need to use. I'm so sorry you're having such a problem. The only solution would be to remove everything off and start over. I'm going to leave you a link for the correct antique paste and final varnish you need to use. Fineline crackle is very sensitive to anything water. I've seen a crackle product used where the cracks are very far apart. The lines themselves are not overly large, just the space between them. Do you have any idea what this product is? TIA
Hi Patrice, That is Pentart fineline crackle. It was one of them that I demonstrated in this video. I'll leave you a safe link for the product. Make sure you use only solvent based antiques and varnishes after the crackle medium. If you use anything water based it will ruin your crackle. I'll leave you links for all of it. Hi! I used glue 2 parts to 1 part water. Im using a wood surface and a porcelein one that has been decoupaged. So i did a base color of black then added the glue mix on top ..i let it dry for 5 minutes and then used white acrylic paint on top. It didnt turn out how i wanted it..the decoupaged didnt do anything..the wood looks kinda distressed but no real crack or very few..im disappointed. So can i go over it with a crackle medium instead of glue? Help! Thank you!! 😊😊😊
Hi Carol. If you're going to use the glue crackle method, do not water down the glue. Use it straight out of the container. Don't let the glue dry at all, paint your contrasting color right over the wet glue. This is only meant to be used between two layers of paint. It won't work over top of a decoupaged image. If you want cracks on your decoupaged image, you'll need to use Pentart Fineline Crackle. And then you can only use solvent based antiques and varnishes. I'll leave you some links for these products. I'm also going to leave you a link for a video where I used the Fineline crackle over a decoupaged image. This shows you step by step how to do it. Let me know if you have any questions at all. This was really helpful! I have several crackle products that I haven't dared to try, and I've had some of the Pentart in my cart that I haven't pulled the trigger on yet. Thanks for the info! ~Velvet
Hi Velvet! Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! I'm going to leave you a link for the Pentart fineline crackle, is that the one you wanted? You'll need a solvent based antique and varnish. I'm going to leave you links for both of them as well. Now I'm using something different than what I used in the video. Only because it's better. Just be aware that since the varnish is solvent based, you'll need turpentine to clean your brush. Put some in a small glass jar and soak your brush overnight, then clean with soap and water. Hi there, I would say the best result would be the Pentart fineline crackle system. It will give you really fine delicate cracks. However, I'm not really positive how it will work over oil paints, as I've never tried it. Once you use that crackle system you cannot use any water based varnishes or antiques over top of it. Only solvent based sealers, in matte or glossy. You can use dark brown oil paint as your antiquing medium to accent your cracks. I'll leave you some links as well as a link to a video where I used this crackle system and used oil paint as my antiquing medium. Let me know how it turns out, and I'd love to see pictures. I'll leave you my email address in case you like to share your results with me. Let me know if you have any other questions. Hi Mark, first of all let me know which crackle method you're going to be doing. Once I know that I should be able to help you. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi Tracy, I don't have anything using acrylic ink. But it's something to think about for a future video. I like it a lot. Reminds me of water paints. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi, im from Pakistan just saw your video...we don't have to many options available here. I am looking for crackle varnish but it is not available in our country. I want to use it over glass to make crackle. Can you tell me how can i make crackle on glass. I need something transparent. Im basically trying to make antique mirror with glass
Hi there, I don't know of any options that would be suitable for what you're trying to do. Most of the crackle mediums need to be put between two layers of paint. The Pentart crackles would not hold up on something like a mirror. They do make spray paint that turns glass into a mirror. Put some gold and silver splatters on the glass first and then splatter some white vinegar. Then spray on the mirror paint. That will give you a vintage look mirror. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
I recently bought Pentart fine line 2 step crackle varnish and after a week my item is still tacky. I followed all the instructions so would be grateful for any advice you may have. Thank you
Hi Debra, I'm not sure why, I've never had that happen. Normally the fineline crackle turns out beautiful. I let step 2 dry for a few hours then use a blow dryer to deepen the cracks. Did you use antiquing afterwards to enhance the cracks? Was it water based? If so, that would cause a problem. It needs to be solvent based, which means, you would need to clean your brushes with paint thinner and not water. Also, you need to seal it afterwards with a solvent based clear varnish. Either paint on or spray on. Let me know your steps exactly and what products you used, so I can guide you 😊 Thanks for watching and sending me a message 💖😊
Hi Debra, That's solvent based so you're good there. Maybe that's what is staying sticky. I've never used Pentart Liquid Patina, but I spray all my projects with a clear varnish in either a gloss or matte. You may want to try that, it should get rid of the sticky feel. I would try it on a sample something first. Do all the same steps and then try the spray varnish and see what happens. I hate trying something new on my actual project, just in case. I'll leave you links for the two that I use. Please let me know how it turns out. 😊 Triple thick glaze (Amazon): amzn.to/3DSbyPe Matte spray sealer (Amazon): amzn.to/3j19tGm
Thank you so much for your help. I haven't sealed it yet as I was waiting for the stickiness to go, but I'll follow your advice and see if that works. Many thanks for your help. I've subscribed and enjoyed watching your other lovely videos. Love from the UK 🇬🇧🇺🇲
Hi Debra, I have a feeling that the patina just stays sticky. Hopefully sealing it will work. Let me know. You're very welcome and thanks so much for subscribing, I love making new crafty friends. I'm happy to see that you're enjoying other videos as well💖😊

Dear, its me again... 💋! I have a question, without usin Pentart 2 step crackel, how can I get transparent crackles over a photo???The one I am geting with pentart are no good! Thank you so much, in advance
Hi Dani, which Pentart crackle are you using? If you're using the classic, you won't like the results on a photo. The one you need to use is the Pentart "Fineline" Crackle, they are very different. Tell me exactly what you used and all the steps you took.
@@masoncreationsetc I just saw your text dear... I am using Fideline crackle, 2 step, Pentart but crackles are so small, hardly visible...Maybe I should put thicker layer!?
Hi Dani, that's really odd. I've never had that happen. The Pentart classic crackle has really tiny cracks, but the fineline should be nice large cracks. Ok, you're putting on component #1 which should be white, then letting it dry until clear. Then put on component #2 which should be a golden amber color, then let dry for several hours. That's what you're doing, right? What are you putting it on top of?
@@masoncreationsetc I went to the shop to check, too! They said to me that probably my layers were too thin or the product have expired... I did everything in perfect order...! Thank you my dear sooooo much for your time and care.... Can t wait for your new magic💖🐞
I'm trying to make a "waterfall" of lava and a "river" of lava. I think a nice red paint with black crackle paint on top will do the trick for the "river". Never did it before though. What should I buy? The cracks shown in this video don't look like hot lava... I heard good things about Citadel Technical: Mordant Earth. Are you familiar with that crackle paint? Greetings from Gouda, The Netherlands
Hi Melvin, That sounds really cool. I'd love to see pictures when you complete this project. I'll leave you my email address below, if you'd like to share. I've not used the two you named, but I'm going to leave you a couple of links for a some crackle that should do what you need. Either one should work well for you. But the first one you should be able to add a lot of swirling texture. 1. Ranger Crackle Texture paste- paint the background black and let dry, mix red paint with the crackle paste to put over top and let dry. As it dries the cracks will appear. . It will crack and the black will show through. This not only gives you cracks, but will add swirls of texture as well. 2. FolkArt one step crackle- paint background black and let dry, paint crackle medium and let dry, paint red and it will start cracking immediately. Hi Christopher, The crackle effect is a chemical reaction that happens between the crackle mediums and acrylic paint. I'm not sure how it would react to a high gloss paint. I would say to try some samples before you actually do it on your project. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Can you mix some glue in with one of the on step crackle mediums for a different kind of crackle? I've tried so many brands and have had such terrible luck and it makes no sense, I do what the directions say and.... nada. I have Mont Marte crackle paste now and I want to add some crackle to a canvas art piece I'm working on with my own drawings as decoupage, other decoupage, moge poge, glaze and an assortments of paints. Too much going on? I just want it in certain areas, maybe around the edges.
Hi Leslie, I don't think you can ever have too much when it comes to art. I love doing mixed media with tons of stuff to look at. Yes, you can mix glue with the crackle systems. Here's a video where I did just that. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖 ruclips.net/video/4-gYKraOuBU/видео.html
I’ve been trying to do a crackle on my cupboards. I bought a white matte acrylic paint for the base. Then I put the crackle paint, let it dry. Then I put the top coat which is a dark grey acrylic, but it doesn’t crack. But when reverse the colours with white on the top it cracks beautifully. Totally confused 🤔
Hi Cheryl, that's really odd. Some of the crackle paints are a chemical reaction that makes them crack. My guess would be that there's something in the grey paint that prevents it from cracking. Try a different brand of paint. I would definitely get some small pieces of wood from Dollar Tree and do a bunch of test samples on those before experimenting on your cupboards. Good luck! I hope you can find something that will work. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi Claire, a lot of crackles are meant to be put between two layers of paint. Probably the only one that would work is the Pentart fineline crackle. But I would do some testing to make sure you get the results you are looking for. Get something cheap from dollar store and try it on that, before you do your main project. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

Hi Debbie Unless you paint the wood sewing machine drawer, you won't get a very good crackle effect. In order to crackle properly there needs to be 3 layers. Paint, crackle and then paint again. I just did a quick test to see if I could get it to work on bare wood. The Folkart crackle didn't crack at all. The Elmer's school glue gave minimal cracks that were very tiny. My suggestion would be to paint the drawer, when dry add the Elmer's glue. While the glue is still wet, add your contrasting color. Definitely do this section at a time. It dries fast and will be hard to do it all at once. The Folkart Crackle Medium will produce a more even crackle when doing a large area. For this one paint the drawer, when dry add the crackle medium and let that dry. Then add your contrasting paint color. Work this one in sections as well. Let me know if you have any other questions. You may want to buy some wood blanks from the dollar store to experiment on. Don't experiment on your drawer, wait until you know exactly what the plan is. Thanks so much for watching and sending me a message all the way from Indianapolis, Indiana 😍😊
Hi Lori, I'm so sorry you're having trouble. Ok, here are the steps. Make sure you're doing it exactly like this. Paint a base coat and let it dry. Paint on Elmer's glue and do not let it dry. Paint your contrasting color right over top of the wet glue. It should start cracking pretty quickly. You will get more cracking as it dries. If you let the glue dry before adding the paint, it won't crack. Hopefully this will help. Let me know. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
I was going to try the napkin method with this adorable pumpkin id taken from a get together. I very specifically told my miscreant bf that i was saving it for a specific special project and hung it carefully on the side of the fridge thats away from the rest of the kitchen. Hi there, are you painting wine glasses, or are you requesting me to make some holiday wine glasses? How fun! Let me know and I'll add you to my request list. Thanks for always watching💖🤗🎄
I think they got the names backward . Classic has fine-lines. And Fineline has not fine? As in there larger so I wonder why they named it Fineline. If you'd never used it before and you want it to find you a medium that made fine lines you would buy fine line when you would need to be buying classic that would tick me off. Thanks for showing that. And thanks for all the knowledge you share with us!!!!

Hi there! You're welcome and I'm happy you enjoyed this video! General rule of thumb would be two contrasting colors. Such as brown and cream, or black and white. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi, Donna: thx for the tutorial❤.
I would like to use the Pantart fineline crackle varnish on watercolor paper or canvas, I have a few Q:
1) do you think it will work?
2) do I need to prime the paper or canvas before applying the crackle varnish?
Love to hear back from you
Thanks 🙏
Hi Fong, I've never tried the fineline crackle on paper or canvas. Both are textured which will give you a completely different outcome than what you are going to want from the fineline crackle. Fineline is designed to make things look like aged porcelain, which would be cracked but still shiny. The texture will take away from the shine. I would try it on a couple of sample pieces before you put it on an actual project, just to make sure you're going to be happy with the results over a textured base. Let me know how it goes. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Wow so can we use just normal ova glue or has it got to be Elmer’s glue please? Great very helpful video! Thanks so much xx
Hi Nikkie! Thank you and I'm happy you enjoyed this video and found it helpful! Elmer's is basically pva glue, so it should work. I would do a little sample first before doing it on your actual project. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Hi! I’m from Lisboa, Portugal. 😊
I was searching for informative videos about crackle varnish and I found yours very helpful! 😊 I’ve tried to use the 2 steps glaze but I had no results. 😅 What can I possibly have done wrong!? Thank you.❤
Hi Liliana, Ok, I'll try to help. Tell me exactly what brand and type of crackle you used and what were the results. I'll see if I can figure it out. I'm going to leave you my email address, so you can send me some pictures of the product you used and your project results.

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

Hi Sheryl, If you try any of them, try the Pentart fineline crackle. It's one of my favorites. I use that one all the time. I just found a new supplier for it. Until now, it's been so darn hard to find. I'll leave you a link in case you want to try it. The link is safe 😊 I'm also going to leave a link for a project where I used it.
Which crackle would you use on glass bottles??? Thanks
Hi Toni, you can use any of these methods on glass. They will all work, it just depends on the look you are going for. But before you do any painting on glass, you need to make sure you prepare the glass correctly. I'm going to leave you a link to a video that explains how to paint glass.

If you're going to use the Fineline crackle, you need to make sure you only use solvent based products afterwards. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

thank you for all ythe info but could you tell me how to use this project over decoupage
Hi Bonnie, I'm going to leave you a link for a video showing how to use the Fineline Crackle over decoupage. It's the best choice to put over decoupage since it leaves large cracks. That way you can still see the picture underneath. I'll leave you some links for the products as well. All the links are safe for you to click on. Let me know if you need any help. @@masoncreationsetc thanks for taking the time to reply I appreciate it. I am aware of the Pentart one, any others maybe that I can get from a hardware store or art supply store near me? Blessings
I have used one called Winsor and Newton. I was able to find it at Hobby Lobby. Give that one a try. Any solvent based varnish should work just fine 😊
Hello! Can you use Decoart one step crackle over a painted metal, or rusted metal that has been cleaned? An old sign or an old rusty saw? Allow the sign or saw’s color be
The color that crackles through?
@@masoncreationsetc Thanks. Will be trying that out TODAY!! Appreciate your response!😊
Great, let me know how it works. I'd love to know.
I got it!! Took many different tries. Was NOT able to do with polyvine. I DID seal the saw with multisurface(2 coats) and dried overnight. Then clear school glue
, while still wet, put chalk paint overtop. Came out great!👍🏻
How well does rhe crackle medium hold up? I want to do a set of cabinets but want to make sure it holds up over time.
Hi there, I've never used crackle medium on something that large or something with heavy use. Which one were you thinking of using? Fineline Crackle definitely will not hold up in that application. The only one that may hold up would be Folkart one step crackle. Thanks for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊 ❤️
Thank you for the advice on the glaze. That is exactly the effect i was looking for to make a mask I am working look like porcelain.

Hi Dr. Walker, I have the perfect product for you. Polyvine heavy duty wood varnish. You can use it on any surface not just wood. It's the perfect sealer. I use it on almost all of my projects. You can get it in satin and matte finishes. I'll leave you a link. As far as attaching it to drywall, I've never done that so I'm not completely sure. But I would try a decoupage glue. Hello I think I would need your help about The pentart crackle varnish.
I bought it for my craft but no crakles are appearing even if I followed the guidelines.
Do you know why?
I applied the two components on rice paper
I'm looking forward to seeing your answer.
Thank you again for your help
Jenn
Can the fineline be used on a tumbler with mica powder and then epoxy after?
Hi Debbie
I have never tried epoxy over the fineline crackle. I have several followers that email me pictures of their projects. I absolutely LOVE seeing them. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 💖

Can you use a heat gun to speed up the crackle medium? Do you a thick coat or thin coat of each layer

I'm going to leave you a couple links below for those 2 products. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

I would like to use this technique on a birdhouse but wasn’t sure how to do it. If I want to make the house white what back color would I use?
Hi Barbara. You'll want a contrasting color. I would do a dark color such as brown or maybe dark blue. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
This is so helpful. I'm in such a jam right now. I decopauged Reba Roses Black Swan and used the fine line crackle it came out beautiful and so shiny. I used pentart dark brown paste on it ! Omg I can't get it off !!! Im trying every utube trying fior answers . She is decopauged on a silver tray 😢
Good luck and thanks for watching 😊💖

Go back and watch the video again and make sure this is the one you are talking about. Don't use any heat if you want the cracks to be larger. Heat makes more of them and a little bit smaller. Hi Patrice, I'm so sorry you're having trouble. I just sent you an email with some possible solutions. 💖
Hi there, how can I crackle an already finished oil painting?
Or at least give a thin crackle effect?

Hi, thank you so much for your reply. I used Pentart Liquid Patina to enhance the cracks - used a cloth to apply and rub off.

I'm sorry you're having trouble Dani. I hope you can get it figured out. 💖😊

South Africa 🌍.can I paint on high gloss paint ?
Hi Christopher, The crackle effect is a chemical reaction that happens between the crackle mediums and acrylic paint.
I'm not sure how it would react to a high gloss paint. I would say to try some samples before you actually do it on your project. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
@@masoncreationsetc so after painting with acrylic paint I put on the crackle medium?and when it's dry can I seal it with high gloss sealer?
Yes, you sure can.
I made one loved but I want to use different color such as red?I am Karen from Utah
Hi Karen, I'm sorry, but I'm not exactly sure what you're asking me.Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

How do you crackle with a clear color on glass?
Hi Claire, a lot of crackles are meant to be put between two layers of paint. Probably the only one that would work is the Pentart fineline crackle. But I would do some testing to make sure you get the results you are looking for. Get something cheap from dollar store and try it on that, before you do your main project. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖

I would like instructions to crackle wood sewing machine drawer I want the old wood to show through the crackle . I have school glue to crackle with
Hi Debbie
Unless you paint the wood sewing machine drawer, you won't get a very good crackle effect. I can’t get my paint to Crackle. I’m using Elmers school glue. I’m so disappointed. Can you help me with this?

The Arsehole used it and threw it in the trash. The ONLY way to do thàt is to specifically do it on purpose. Theres a stack of napkin in a drawer right where the fridge opens.
Oh no! I'm so sorry you lost your napkin. I'm leaving you a link below of an online store that I trust completely. They have amazing rice papers and napkins. It's where I purchase all my supplies. They sell their napkins one at a time. Let me know if you find anything adorable and get your creation made!

Do you prime first
Hi there, It depends on what I'm painting. If I'm working on a canvas I always prime with Gesso before painting. If working on glass, ceramic, plastic or any shiny surface I prime with Polyvine multi surface lacquer. It will stop any chipping, peeling or scratching. It's an amazing product. I'll leave you a link below. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to send me a message 😊💖
