That's a solid SSB unit, now that it is recapped and dialed in right. An interesting comparison of microphones as well. The Cobra was a bit tinny, yet would probably last forever. That guy should have given us the employer name :)
I'm enjoying the channel and your work.hopfully soon I'd be looking to get a Washington in decent shape with blue channel numbers blue led . And whote led meter light..id have you do the work for me..if you know of any base radio let me know
@@alabamared2568 I don't do Facebook, but there's CB groups there where you can find all kinds of radios. Ebay is another place. Washingtons are pretty common to find.
Ya but on ssb it a pain and not all radios are tuned the same I used to talk to a bunch of guys with stock radios and every time a differ t one talked he was off no two guys were on the same freq and all had stock untouched clarifiers and radios it’s ok if it’s just 2 people but it’s a pain when 3 or four guys can’t get on the same freq. but that’s cb radio on ssb. On AM you will never know But keep up the good work you doing o great job on these radios
128 is for the President Washington. You can use 170 for the robyn. You can also go to cbtricks and use the cobra 139xlr for free. As long as it's for a 858 ssb it will work.
People are always of freq and say I am where I am and won’t get on freq. that’s why I like the clarifier opened and tied to xmit. People never seem to be on anymore and just blame your radio for not being able to go where theirs is it hard to talk when you are the only one not off frequency
@sirmister4411 I like my clarifier locked. If every person's clarifier were locked, there would be less of a chance of being off frequency. I'm happy with tuning my rx to match their tx.
I'm just curious... out at the 18 to 20 minute mark... you are listening to 39 LSB..... the guys modulation seemed strong.... but the S meter wasn't moving....... Should it have been??
With the camera up close, it seemed loud but it wasn't strong enough to move the needle. But it does move. It's part of the alignment. I would never let a radio leave the bench not working properly.
great f en job awesome radio have one my self 73s!!!
Thanks ! Yes, the 858 ssb is a great chassis

Where did you source that power supply transistor?
@PopeyeKF4LBG I have a bunch of used and NOS parts for these chassis.
What reference book were you looking at?
I need one of those for my President Washington
