- The Cloverfield series has had a pretty unique way of releasing its films. The first was a found footage monster film set in New York City, but the second film entered production under a title that didn’t connect it to the first film.
In fact, 10 Cloverfield Lane, as it was eventually titled, didn’t tie itself to the franchise until the end. The third film, The Cloverfield Paradox, was announced during the Super Bowl, going up on Netflix right after the game ended.
The film’s ending answers some questions about the first film, so let’s take a look at the explanation of the ending of The Cloverfield Paradox.

I do believe they mention that they hit a Higgs Boson particle that launched them into an alternate earth. It was a quick throw away line explaining what may have happened.

so its there, fault that those monsters got to her. in the first cloverfield moivie. so while that was happening, they were up there, but in another, dimension. and they, didn't know that months, had passed.
Because most people don't know what a Higgs Boson is or what the Higgs field is they could just have said some timey whimey thing. It's laughable that they said a Higgs Boson particle launched them to an alternate earth....lmao!!!!!! They could have at least consulted someone on this ffs. Or two... or three...or googled it...or watch PBS Space Time or SciShow....
They mention that the shepherd smashed the Higgs boson particle and it overloaded the shepherd and thats what flung them into another dimension.
What overloaded the Shepard was condensation in the Accelerator. They made the point that once they vented the compartment to space, removing the condensation, the Accelerator managed a stable beam.
This is honestly a cheap idea to bring the movies together. Like at the end of the movie if somebody wakes up and realizes everything is a dream.
Thank you! They should have kept Lane and Paradox as separate movies unrelated to the Cloverfield universe and just done a direct sequel to Cloverfield about the mother or what happened to the baby after the nuke.

So, say the monster is equal in thigh of mid level clouds so 6k feet tall. Gravity and the mass of Earth remains the same, no matter what dimension. Therefore, gravitational biology and gravitropism would still apply to the large monsters through the inverse relation to its mass and gravity. Basically, a creature that large able to move around would mean humans would be able to jump to the moon. (think John Carter)

Yes there are God particles in the movie. Mina mentions the accelerator slammed a Higgs boson, and that's what caused the dimensional rift. And, since these particles theoretically can exist in more than one dimension, that's probably how the monsters get here. And, the past may be screwed as well. Also, they didn't "save" Earth 2. They most likely got a monster infestation as well. Plus, all the 3 movies take place on different Earths. The moment Clover appears in the first movie, THAT'S the exact moment the accelerator is activated in THIS universe. They screwed up all of time, space AND multiple Earths.
Fun fact. If you start Cloverfield and Cloverfield Paradox at the EXACT same time, the Clover monster in the first movie appears at the SAME TIME they activate the accelerator in the third movie!

The Higgs Boson most certainly _is_ mentioned in the movie. When Jensen (the blond from the alternate Earth) is talking to Monk. "You got it working, didn't you? You got it working." "Something went wrong. Shepard smashed a Higgs boson. Overloaded. Somehow you ended up here. Your dimension crashed into mine."
After Cloverfield 1: "Wow, that movie waz awesome can't wait for part 2 see what happens?"

Actually the real name for the "God Particle" IS mentioned by Jensen to Monk. She accurately confirmed what happened to the station and how the experiment went wrong, as well as proving herself to be an member of the alternate universe's crew. In the explanation is a direct reference to "blowing a Higgs-Boson" in the process of overloading the Shepherd

Matt Hannan you’re right they did mention the moisture was throwing the numbers off near the end of the film. In the beginning though it was like a throwaway line someone said it was a Higgs boson particle that got smashed. It may have just been an assumption. I’ll have to watch that part again.
but for those wondering, the worms were probably there for food, used a raw material for the 3d printer aptly named as the worlds worst bagel machine, also I believe I saw a shot of plants, which means that the worms also served the purpose of working the soil for the plants. The right plants can act as pretty good co2 scrubbers that can help keep the various gases in the air balanced.
I know it was a cliffhanger but I really liked that ending with the giant monster screeching.
These movies are great, and I didn't even get into the first one with the shaky cam that much. It's grown into something super cool though now. Paradox and Cloverfield 10 Lane were very cool stories. I guess everyone just assumes that the monsters came from yet another dimension? My first guess was that they came from this other earth, which was why their station wasn't there, cause it had already failed creating their problems.? Jensen didn't seem changed by the fact that they were going to help them make theirs work, and sacrificed everything to go after their station. I don't know, just theories, but that's why I love these movies is because of the deep, connected storylines. Which is why I was a Lost fan as well.

Paradox makes the other films even better IMO. Each film takes place in 3 separate dimensions and time periods. The events of Paradox caused a rift thru not only space, but time itself. So the event in 2028 of dimension #3 (Cloverfield Paradox) caused the monster to appear in 2008 of dimension #1 (Cloverfield) and aliens to appear in 2013 of dimension #2 (10 Cloverfield Lane). The next Cloverfield film will be called Overlord and takes place during WW2 of dimension #4 which will have a different reality most like affected by the Paradox event. Seems as tho there are many more dimensions which have demons, monsters, aliens, etc and the dimensions are all being fused because of the Paradox experiment. Even tho they are making it up as they go, it's still pretty clover... I mean clever.
Brian Bell exactly, to add to that there could be a different dimension for every variable throught history. I mean the monsters had to have come from earth originally, just an earth where perhaps dinosaurs never went extinct.

As you said the Higgs-Bosun is known as the God Particle but, despite what you said, one IS involved. One of the characters says "You smashed a Higgs-Bosun" which is what causes the transition to the other universe and for some particles to occupy the same space within the Russian, namely the gyroscope, the worms and I believe his other universe counterpart.
Didnt really explain a couple things like how Volkov wound up with the compass inside him, or how dudes arm knew it was in him in the first place or how/where the monsters really came from, like is there a dimension where earth is full of monsters? or were they from another planet? or were they on earth the whole time and woke up because of the collider firing??
XSatampraZeirosX I think the monsters were on a version of earth where they were the main species instead of humans because well you know, all the different universes, the machine teleported one baby monster from that version of earth to the 2008 movie version of earth thousands of years ago and it has been asleep in the ocean until of course it woke up. I think it's the same for 10 Cloverfield Lane, those Alien are just from a version of earth where they are the dominant species so when they turned the machine in it transferred them to the 10 Cloverfield Lane version of earth in 2016. And in this movie instead of transporting a baby it brought in a crap ton of fully grown monsters

XSatampraZeirosX Volkov could have merged consciousness with his dimensional counterpart or the worms fucked with his brain. The compass being inside of him was probably because of them jumping into different reality and displacement. The only thing that can’t really be explained is the arm. Didn’t really make sense at all.
Yeah Volkov most likely merged with himself on the ship, and that is why he suspected Schmidt of being a spy (because he was so in the alternate dimension they were morphing with). The arm is to hard to actually explain (because how do you even explain that) the worms were probably inside Volkov because thats how Schmidt killed him in the alternate universe, and maybe the guy who missing and arm (can't remember his name right now) hid the compas inside Volkov to keep it from Schmidt. But basically the easy cop out for J.J. Abrahams is "there are an infinite amount of dimensions, so anything goes because everything that can happen will happen in one of those universes" I thought it was pretty lame at first but after watching the film a second time and watching some explanations of some of the biggest WTF moments it makes more sense
At the end of Cloverfield, the video taken at Coney Island, you can see something in the background crash into the water (get the DVD and play it on stop action to see it splash down) I assumed this was the creature or a ship or something to explain the creature and would be a great lead in or explanation to the existence of the creature. How to fuck up a great concept movie by not following it up only Hollywood could do.

The thing I don't understand in Paradox, is when they get back to their earth, why the scientists on Earth ask if Shepard is working, and why they cheer when it is working. If the world is being overran with Monsters, why would wouldn't you just warn them to stay in space?

videocreator970 its 2028. To be completely fair we aren't sure of human tech capabilities. Especially if they can accomplish unlimited energy. But a fair fight with something of that size might be a stretch.
They can 3D print bagels in space. So food isn't really a problem. Plus if you're in space you could point the infinite laser beam at the monsters.

No. In the viral marketing campaign for Cloverfield 1 before it's release, it's revealed through a website for a fictional Japanese space company Tagruato that the thing falling at the end of Cloverfield 1 is a chunk of Tagruato's satellite ChimpanzIII. Tagruato's parent company Bold Futura was even doing search and recover operations near NYC but were halted when the tanker exploded as we see in the movie. It could have been the satellite itself or the recovery operation that awoke the monster.
Mina did mention that they had smashed a higgs-boson particle AKA god particle, and that is why they ended up in another dimension, go back and watch ;) at around 58 min talking to monk, so not sure if different version

They do mention the Higgs Boson at he end of the film. Someone mentions that they "must have split a Higgs Boson" or something like that and that is what tore a whole in Space Time that the then traveled through. So Higgs is in there. I don't know how I feel about this one. Kinda campy but I guess they all are but a fun watch. Basically they can make up anything and call it Cloverfield now since with the multiverse theory driving the physics of the Universe in the films any thing that is possible can and does happen in at least one Universe.

To be honest I personally liked the movie, we know how the first movie happened but the second movie doesn’t give me any answers yet, is that new earth or is it just some stuff after the first one? Not sure I didn’t like the second one
To simplify. There is basically three earth in different dimensions. Part 1 is another dimension part 2 is different aliens from different dimension and now part three has an earth of the full size grown monster in a different dimension. So basically that particle accelerator affect time too, not only opening and letting in monsters.

I think the first cloverfield and paradox might be in the same universe but at different times. The tagline of the movie is the future started it all, so even if paradox takes place in the future it's still a prequel to the 2008 film. When they ripped open a hole in time in space, they sent a monster back in time and the tageroto company just woke the monster up and back in the paradox movie at the end when they get back to they're earth, the monster is full grown because it's been alive for 18 years or so

Aren’t there monsters on the other earth as well? It seems like there’s three dimensions and when they used the Shepard it sent monster back to 2008 in one dimension, 2016 in another, and 2028 in Hamilton’s dimension.

I think that the clover monster at the end of Paradox is the same from the first movie. It was just yanked from the reality of the first Cloverfield. The fact that the husband refers to the monsters as plural, is due to, I believe that Clover from 2008 has grown over the 20 year span and had “children”. So when the experiment happened, it pulled clover and her children from the first reality. Since it’s been stated that clover was on the bottom of the sea floor for thousands of years and still an infant.

This is what this film failed to do, actually explain anything.
Like if the monster from the 2008 film is still around 20 years later, then that means they had to have been gone for 20 years which wouldn’t make sense as the guy in the bunker hadn’t aged at all, neither had the kid.
So if it’s true that the monster essentially “spawned” on Earth because of the rip in space time, and created multiple realities where it attacks in 2008 and 2028.
This cancels out what the creators of Cloverfield said of the monster having been at the bottom of the ocean and finally came out after years.
So in summary, they came up with 2 other films, thought “nice idea but what if no one watches it?”
“Let’s just say it’s a sequel to Cloverfield, chuck some aliens at the end and job done”.
10 Cloverfield lane was good on its own with an interesting link, Cloverfield was good on its own, The Cloverfield paradox is not an amazing Sci-Fi film and feels like they knew that which is why then threw Cloverfield on it to try and bring in viewers.
The original clover monster didn't die in the first film at the end of the credits there's a voice message that says " it's still alive " based on that my theory is that when they were descending in the escape pod and they went past the massive clover it was during their own time (2028) but then due to time still being unstable by the experiments they were transported to (2008) cloverfield and that is the falling satalite which we see in the original film.. seeing as we know the original clover didn't die we can assume it survived the 20 year difference up until 2028 which could explain the size difference.. Maybe it gets experientially bigger the more it eats plus it has just come out of hibernation which could explain it's limited size.. soo the quick scene of the escape pod falling actually shows us the full 20 years impacted by the particle accelerater on earth A, they caused 2 alternate earth's to merge in 2008 combing the clovers world and our world (The clover originating from an alternate version of earth), the clover fights humanity for the next 20 years and in 2028 the escape pod descends to earth to see the clover is now 5x as big, then half way down the pod goes back to 2008 and lands in the Atlantic ocean ( the cloverfield 1 scene) where presumably the 2 astronauts are rescued to which they then inform mission control to wait 20 years and radio up for the test to be completed.. creating a paradox.. similarly I think the husbands storyline on earth was also interchanging through timelines explaining the sudden destruction and appearance of the 2008 "baby" clover in 2028 also the difference in technology... mind blowing shit really

A lot of people don't like it. Mostly for the reason of lazy storytelling. Normally I would agree but the plot was designed that way purposely. All in all i think they did a decent job. I can see why they didn't want a theatrical release though.
YES there is a god particle in the movie. Jensen LITERALLY mentions that Schmidt locked into a Higgs Bossom by mistake when the machine finally worked and thus they were transported to the other dimension. Taking the Cloverfield attachment out of the way, the movie centres around this space station which travelled dimensions BECAUSE of the Higgs Bossom, or in other words, because of the God Particle. Hence, the original title. -__-
I believe the object we see falling into the sea at the end of Cloverfield is the ship Jensen was on. I think it failed, crashed into the sea off of New York, Taraguato then attempt to salvage it, waking up the monster in Cloverfield.
Still doesn’t explain Mundy’s arm or why he ship was basically trying to kill the crew.
It wasn´t the ship trying to kill them, it was the dimension, the dimension was trying to correct the error that they caused, by killing them, cuz they were like intruders in that dimension.

i think the timeline goes with cloverfield paradox is the begining of the whole series. If you ever watched the series Dark its explained that time doesnt run linear and in dragon ball super the action in a timeline can construct a new timeline. What i think happened is the particle ray opened up the time space allowing aliens and monsters to travel. Now all they did was put them in the timelines they would have existed. Cloverfield describes the teenage stage where of the problem clovey is big but not that big so in the timeline of existance is maturing the paradox is the current time because they create the ripple of effect and would be the start to fucking up timelines and in a sense if clovey always lived here he would be an adult in present time since its been 10 years. 10 cloverfield lane is the future were we somehow optained new tec to fight of monsters and kill them but a new threat of aliens emerges the future. A theroy i have on overlord is that because the particle ray brought them here they are fighting ghost or an early version. Which is the earliest form of monsters. so begining fights ghost early shamans and spirts were the first form of monsters. next monster is clovey set in 2008 the rise of our tec advancments drilling and taking resourse that unbalance the ecosystem triggering him to wake up and the future is fighting aliens because the air was toxic (omage to pollution and how were destroying the world) thats what could have killed clovey but making the planet easy for invasion. The paradox movie is just the blame game the person we blame the Obama or Trump in america. There in crisis for food and gas and that shows the fears of people as we continue to do what we do.

If all of JJ Abrams movies shares a link via multiple universes, then the 'Earth' that was saved is the 'Earth' that would become the center of the Federations of Planets. But since that 'Earth' of that parallel still at war, they have to wait 30 years for Chocrane to revolusionized it into dilitium.
I fell asleep twice during the last 20-something minutes and had to keep rewinding it. So they sent the schematics to the alternate Earth, are they also bringing the schematics to their own Earth?
Actually they likely saved no one. Overloading the reactor caused the rift that allowed the monsters into their dimension (or woke them from their undersea nap, idk which) and doing that in a 2nd dimension likely had the same effect.
Nah if monsters showed up humanity would've had to stop fighting each other and focused on that. The main characters received some of alternate earth's signals after the reactor already overloaded and sent them there, no mention of monsters just war.

This is pretty damn good movie. I don't think it should have so many bad reviews.... Except that part in oxygen chamber when that mold metal grabs guy I don't understand that part
giant_kiwi 502 One thing that the movie doesn't explain is that in multiverse theory, if there are two versions of people in one universe, reality will try to auto correct itself by getting rid of one. But since the crew of the shepherd MELDED with their alternate selves, reality basically decided to kill all of them.
The alternate universe didn't like their presence is the best answer I can come up with. However, the universe making actionable decisions on its own has its own implications.

Joe Kerr or he just has different taste. I wasn't a fan of the film, but I also don't think it's as awful as some people are making it out to be. It was fairly par for the course in terms of sci-fi horror.
Dude...I just can't, I get the argument that people have different tastes, but even the "look" of the film just screams that it was thrown together cheaply and quickly. Add to that the "borrowing" of things that have already been done: such as Prometheus' eyes and the Alien almost chest burst scene and it was just poor poor poor. I feel you have to be fairly young to enjoy this film -- not because young people are dumb, but because they may not get or have experienced all the things this movie took from.

I was going to watch this yesterday but saw the very low rating and changed my mind, is it worth a watch?
Note that at the very end of Cloverfield (first one), when that couple was on Coney island filming themselves, you see an object falling down from the sky into the ocean. That was the escape pod those space engineers were in at the end of paradox.

Angel Apellido nope. The shepard device activated throughout time as well. Evidence for this is that in 10cl emmit did a decent job describing the flash in the sky he saw. It was similar to what shepard station creates when it overloads.

Like the other person said, they explain that the shepard device sent those monsters through time as well as dimensions. So it sent the first monster to the earth of a different dimension, thousands of years in the past.

You say a "God Partical" is another name for a Higgs-Bosen, and Jensen says they hit a Higgs-bosen when they fired the Shepard. So the original title still makes sense.

It did feel like a repurposed high-concept script for an unrelated sci-fi with the cloverfield connections just tacked on. The dialogue was clunky af, expository character scenes like the first one were redundant, the same exposition appearing later in the film, I was yelling stuff like 'chart the damn constellations, idiots!' five minutes before the gyroscope-like mcguffin was mentioned. Funamentally, though, the rules of its universe weren't properly established. I thought it was going to explain things like why the nanobots killed Chris O'Dowd like a horror movie monster, like they were reprogrammed by and under the control the villain or something, but it was never explained. I expected them just to rip through him due to the magnetism.

I dunno, it seemed pretty legit to me! I only watched 1 before this and that one didn't make much sense, but this one made the entire ending 100% clear. In not sure what the issue is that other people r having with this video.

So in a sense all three movies takes place in the parallel universe where the monsters are, therefore having the original earth safe where this movie started. So one earth is safe while the other isn't.
errr - if you watched the film - it is very clear why the story was originally called 'the god particle' - as they believed - it was the shattering of a higgs boson that caused the universes to overlap ... ( higgs boson aka 'the god particle' )

If this was a prequel to the first film, why isn’t there an energy crisis going on in the backdrop of that first film? Was that a parallel earth? Did the cloverfield monsters go into that dimension as well as the universe in Paradox?

but if all of this took place before the original cloverfield movie, things at the beginning of that movie seemed normal in comparison. There was no mention of war, or an energy crisis in that movie so are they suggesting that this is another dimension not shown in the movie that just happened to be affected by things in the universe of this film???

The monsters were added in **across** time as well as space. i.e. they entered the dimension of the first earth through the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. The Japanese satellite crash woke them up (the same company that made Slusho, continuity that is kept with the bobble head) - and so from Cloverfield onwards the timeline changed to have these giant monsters rise from the deep. With one presumable surfacing at Delaware during the events of TCP.

By activating the particle accelerator and producing very very large amounts of energy, they ripped the very fabric of space time across the multiverse, affecting events of the past, present and future. So the cloverfield monster appeared in New York because of the Particle accelerator. Many universes crossed paths and quantum entanglement says that particles trying to occupy the same space create chaos.
