    After reading some of the comments, I think many people have the misconception that alligators are animals that can be tamed or made to be friendly around people. From my experience with working with alligators, they will take any chance they can get to bite you, regardless of whether they are scared or hungry or not. These are not animals that you ever want to take chances with. Holding the mouth while handling the gator is necessary for him to do, because even though it may seem calm in the video, that doesnt mean it wont suddenly change its mind and attack.

      Aren't alligators less likely to attack people than crocodiles? They are easier to "tame" i think.

      This isn't completely right. I've been around animals since I wss little and handled my first American Alligator when I wss 13. Sure they would take a chance to bite you but there are alligators that have even been crate trained and are like dogs

      @@SuperDragon978 I think the term "cold blooded" came from reptiles being unpredictable. They may seem tame, but I'm sure instinct will tell them to bite unexpectedly.

      @Kris Croc
      The public should fear alligators. They can be extremely dangerous animals.
      You're 8 years older since you wrote that comment.

    Let's make one thing clear... They don't become more common in suburban areas. The suburban areas are encroaching on them.

    That Alligator is not going to purposely bite him. He is a very calm gator as you can tell. Alligator's just dont bite people for the fun of it. He could of safely demonstrate an Alligator's biology without holding his jaws shut without any danger to the students or him. That alligator is in an unatural environment so the best he can do is let that animal feel comfortable. But I understand he was taking no chances and avoiding any kind of injury to himself.

      Kris Croc an alligator will take any chance it can to bite you. That's a matter of fact, your way of thinking is incorrect.

    Excellent video. Great to see a calm, professional academic sharing knowledge and not some hyped up over excitable steve irwin type clown or gator world, crowd pleasing alligator 'trainer'/wrangler.

    Are some of You Crazy ?
    Its normal and safer for all if the gator is for a transport fixed , so it means leg's and mouth are secured with Tape
    And if something is around the gators eyes he is relaxed and its comfortable for him

    yeah and let the alligator bite him? he is an instructor to students. he holds the mouth closed because the muscles that open the alligators mouth are extremely weak and can easily be overpowered. he does this to protect himself and those around him from losin a finger :) UNL! GO BIG RED! :)

    He's making the Alligator feel uncomfortable with his hands holding the mouth he's better off just handling it without him holding the jaws.
