I was just in the market for a bass and I thought about grabbing one of those, but the Squier CV series is the absolute best bang for the buck out there right now.
i have a player plus (not as great a value, but still up there). having spent a bunch of time with both the 12" neck w/ rolled edges on the 'plus' is fantastic. very happy w/ the build quality and they sound great
I love my ‘78 Jazz. Got it restored recently. The Fender PV 74 pickups are nice. Gives it the old Fender tone but then again, they won’t be able to cut through the mix as well as say the Ultra Jazz pickups.
Totally agree with you! I've gone through loads of different basses but wound up with a collection of Fender Player Jazz basses set up in different tunings and I absolutely love them! The weights actually vary a lot between all of them. I was fortunate to get two being sold off cheap to make way for the Player II range. I've had a Sire V3 & V5 before and even though they do sound great, I didn't get along with their neck profiles whereas the Player's necks for me are 👌
I agree with your assessment and I'd like to mention that an even better value can be found in a Warmoth jazz bass. Specs vary greatly and the end result is hit or miss, but one can often be bought under $1,000 used and, if you happen upon a really nice one, it will rival anything Fender has ever made. Mine certainly does! :)
Interesting interview a heard yesterday with Leo Fender. One of the big reasons he developed the Jazz Bass was that he was having a problem with Precision’s because the initial attack of pickup was blowing speakers. So the attack of the Jazz Bass pickups was less impactful
That’s interesting to hear considering many Jazz basses with traditional style wiring have a tendency to have lower overall output while running both pickups vs when they’re justs solo’d on one. I’ve always found it to be annoying but perhaps it’s intentional
Sounds great .I am barely a year into playing. started on Squier P Bass. made the jump the American Pro ii V string P bass. Now THAT i can tell a difference! LOL. great vid.
I have the player series with the Maple veneer top and blue burst color . I guess I was lucky I say that because mines is not heavy at all. I know the weight can vary on fenders. It’s a alder body but it’s pretty light I would say 7 pounds but I know other models, especially when they made out of ash can be heavy
I own a player jazz black like yours but I went with a black moto pickguard and apollo pups you should check out the ernie ball italian leather strap it's a little pricey but it makes playing a dream
@@grant_r_d Thanks for the reply! Any reason for this choice? I noticed Sunbeams are nickel plated whereas the other choices are mainly stainless steel.
I agree with much of what is said here. But after having owned Fender instruments in the past, and after having had my Sire V5 j-bass for a couple of years... I don't think I'll ever buy another Fender again. At least not one of their classic designs. Other manufacturers offer more bass for the money. My Sire cost at least 20% less than the Fender Player. But unlike the Fender, the Sire comes with a roasted and bound maple neck, block inlays, rolled fingerboard edges and a real bone nut.
@@grant_r_d I had a Harley Benton JB-75. I got rid of him, he weighed 5.2kg. Now I’m very afraid that Fender will weigh the same. And they don’t write about it anywhere.
I have a Fender Player II Jazz Bass with maple fingerboard. With the Warwick wide nylon Rock Strap it weights 4.3kg. My PRS CE 24 is about 3.9kg, so it's not a very noticeable difference. I'd say 4.3kg is pretty okay for a classic bass. But modern ergonomic basses like Ibanez EHB definitely feel lighter.
@@AndrewP Thanks for the answer! That's exactly what I was looking at! Don't have a review for it? 4.3kg is acceptable! I currently have a Sterling Ray4, it weighs 4.2. The difference is small.
Great demo👍👍
Thanks for watching! :)

Great sounding bass!

Sounds terribly cool ❤
My Mexican pbass is a 2018 model. It’s great upgraded to quarter pounders and a high mass bridge. Running with flats it’s a funk machine
nice one :)
2019 Player Jazz Bass V. I groove with it, I slap it, and it gets the job done.
I have a Player Precision Bass with upgraded pickups and bridge. It sounds like a million dollars and I get nothing but compliments on how it sounds.
Awesome :)
Hi! May I know the upgraded pups and bridge. Thanks!
Great job! I tip my hat sir
Thanks!
Nice groove
Thanks :)

Great review, can never go wrong with a J.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on a sterling ray 34 or something similar.
Thank You :)

Very Nice
I have one of those as well. What a great bass! I just couldn't put it down, so it went home with me.

Nice One :)
I have the new player2 mustang pj bass, best of both worlds and weighs under 8lbs.
nice :)
Which DR strings would you pair with a P Bass that aren’t flats? I recently got the Player II P and It’s gorgeous! Cheers from Vancouver 🙌🏼
I like DR sunbeams:)

Yeah - I’ll have to give a Sire a go one day :)
How much does he weigh? Does the neck hang down?
no - no much neck dive… I don’t know the actual weight… But it’s pretty heavy :)
