I just want to say I appreciate that you ACTUALLY shave with the razors you review, unlike other channels where they only shave their cheeks... I feel like it's insincere to review a razor without trying it on the sensitive parts of the face. Thank you for the quality content.
Possibly one of the most satisfying shaves I have seen in a long time (except for the part you sliced your lower face clean 🤕). Never knew it was possible to tackle 30 long days of growth with just a safety razor. Quality content right there, David #OhioShaves
Honesty man. Idk what it is. If its your content or your filming style or just you and your personality but theres no better SR channel out there. Keep it up. Looking forward to those Yates Razers. #ohioshaves
Started DE shaving last year after stumbling across vids like this...took a while to get it right and didnt think the blood and pain was worth it, but i got it right and look forward to shaving. Still use a very enrty level Wilkinson Sword razor i got from my local supermarket but looking to upgrade. My beck is very sensitive but for Proraso White and Nivea brilliant for me. Keep up the good work!!
Nice shave video David👍🏾. I run from aggressive razors for now, being quite new in wet shaving😊. But good to watch the awesome wonders of old school DE razors mowing down a month's beard growth! Wow! 👍🏾
I would have originally bought the Futur, but the lack of texture turns me away. The knurled grip on the Variant is nice and grippy even with soapy wet hands. Great video.
Very impressive full beard shave using DE safety razors! You definitely proved that DEs can do the job. It was also impressive that you managed to only get a couple of nicks. I'm not surprised that the R41 gotcha. To my eyes the R41 blade gap/exposure doesn't look that aggressive...but "looks" can be deceiving, I rarely use the R41. When I do, if I focus and use a very light touch, I can get an almost BBS shave in two passes. It must feel good to have a clean-shaved face again!
I've asked for a clipper set for Christmas. Here's hoping I get it! Great pairing like you said for taking down heavy growth. Also aiming to do my own hair. The Henson has been excellent for neck shaves, so it keeps me sharp between cuts. The clipper will ideally let me keep my hair at a constant clean length and look without spending a fortune at the barber shop 😅
I've only been shaving with rockwell 6c. My wife is going to make me wait for Christmas to try out my T2 but I don't mind. I can't imagine that it can get much better than the 6c other than the easier blade change😂😂I know clippers first will make it faster but I've cut thru some thick hair pretty quick and easy with just the razor...
Thanks for showing the efficiency of these razors. The next time you try this I hope you can try a single edge razor, like the open comb RazoRock Hawk V3. I think it's more efficient and comfortable (once you get use to it) due to the thicker blades.
Nice to see you trying the Futur again. I know it’s not your favorite. I noted the right blade really tames it. I like treet falcon Carbon steel blades. The rigid blade make the Futur not so wild. Parker did an excellent job on the open comb variant. It’s my favorite open comb. I got the same satin finish as u have here. I already have 2 of Parker’s “graphite” finish so didn’t want them all the same.
I’ve only been seeing your videos for the last week but I’ve learned enough to start using double edge razors. Your honest reviews have help me made my decisions on what to purchase. Thank you. #ohioshaves
I've went back and forth between The Twig, Merkur 34C, Merkur Futr,Wishi and a old gold Gillette with a barber pole handle. I always tend to go back to my old faithful which is the Merkur 34C. It doesn't cut me up and leaves my face smooth. I went ahead and packed the others up and i'm sticking to my 34C.
It's a divisive razor for sure, but I absolutely love the Futur. Been shaving with one exclusively for the last 15 years. I get some pretty smooth and epic shaves using Bic Chrome Platinums, or Personna Comfort Coats. That said, I'm eyballing something in stainless as I recently had to replace some of the Zamak parts in mine (mainly due to neglect on my part). Don't know if I should go with a Muhle Rocca, EJ 3one6, or something from Timeless. I do like the versatility of an adjustable though.
My last shave was a bit of a rough one... I need to heed your advice regarding NOT putting any force on the razor and letting the weight and blade do the work.
Love the real in this. Nicks happen. I've gotten better but I have to say knowing that even experts nick themselves keeps me from getting too in my head about it.
I always shave wirh a Futur at level 1 or 2 and is by far my smoothest shaver. At this level I don't have to pay much attention while I'm shaving. Great video, btw
Yeah, like I said, there's a ton of people in the wet shaving community that just love this razor and I can see why. The engineering of this razor is absolutely off the charts. I'm sure if I spent more time with it become one of my favorite razors, that being said. I love this razor for removing a ton of growth. It is just a joy to shave with on the highest setting
Great video, you're putting these razors to test with all that growth! :) I have the mild Henson and would love to compare it to the medium. #OhioShaves
Just as I was wondering what happened to Mr. Shaves. Can I recommend some advice? I find against the grain shaving easier. With the grain shaving tends to skip more beard.
When I took off my beard on the first of the month following No-Shave November, I used the Parker 65R for my first pass before switching to my Merkur 34c for the remainder. Parker razors are surprisingly aggressive, and the 65R took off that thirty days' worth of whisker growth with ease. I have the closed-comb Parker Variant and am quite happy with it. Depending on how my finances go next year, I may get the open comb version to see how it compares. I don't have the Merkur Futur, nor am I particularly interested as I have my long handled Progress that serves me just fine and looks a lot better aesthetically (in my opinion). I think if I can get a Muhle R89 and an Edwin Jagger DE89, that should complete my razor collection.
My facial hair is not coarse at all and my thin skin always seems to gets cuts from safety razors so I've been looking into milder options. Would you say the Henson is one of the mildest razors you've tried? Love the close up shaving sounds in your videos, keep up the great work! #ohioshaves
Go for it! The Henson will teach you how to shave the correct way and give you such a beautiful, clean, shave. The really is no other need to buy another razor.
OMG I have been looking for a video like this. I use the Merkur Futur on level 5/6 every time I shave. Everything else just seems to leave a little stubble. I have been looking at the Muhle R41 Grande, as well as some slant razors (Holy Black SR71, Fatip). Would the R41 be your recommendation?
I currently own the Merkur Futur and use it not just for face shaves but for full head shaves as well. So far, best blade to pair with the Futur, is KAI- just as sharp as Feather Blades, but has a much more smoother and refined feeling to its edge, and has a much more durable edge as well. I also shave with nothing else but just water. Tried using soaps and foams but I just couldn't get that smooth shave that I'm looking for. Did some experimentation and, out of curiosity, tried shaving with just water(pre-shave prep was to keep the area I was about to shave wet for at least 5 minutes), and I got the close shave I was looking for. In the beginning, it kinda stung a bit after, because my skin wasn't yet used to it, so I could only shave twice a week. But after 2 weeks, my skin has adapted and i didn't have any post-shave stinging or irritation anymore. And I can even shave more often, even every other day for my head shaves(sometimes even everyday, but using only the 1.5 setting). For my regular, every other day head shaves, I'd usually set the blade-gap at either 4.5 or 5. For blades that are at the tail-end of their shaving lifespan, I'd go as high as the #6 setting. Am now looking to buy another razor, and is torn between the Parker VARIANT- Open Comb and The GoodFellas Smile SYNTESI-Stainless Steel.
@@OhioShaves Thanks man! Though I have this thing for adjustables, being able to set the blade exposure to my personal preference, I've been really starting to lean towards the Syntesi. Though, the Variant-OC is still tugging at my heart-strings a bit, still won't let go; hehehe...
#OhioShaves much respect for the R41…I saw it on the first shave video I watched…when I used it, I think I removed my top layer of skin in addition to my beard…lol
So funny that I learned wet shaving with a Merkur Futur set, not 1-6, but bought used and unknowingly set to 13-18. It took buying a cheap Futur clone to realize it and that I could fix it.
Thanks for the video! Wife just got me a mild AL-13 and excited for it to arrive so I can try it. I am really curious how the medium compares to it. #ohioshaves
#ohioshaves Have to give you credit for using 3 beast razors, the Futur is no joke on setting 6, all three are efficient at mowing all that beard growth.
#OhioShaves Have you tried Head Slick as a shaving lather? I find it works amazing. Depends how much you like the cooling/menthol feeling. Have you done a brush recommendation video? I'm looking on Amazon, and don't want to grab a bad set.
Yeah, I tried it years ago. It works pretty good. I had to use a ton of it. It seemed like back in my Gillette head shaving days. The Razor Company has some really good deals on shaving brushes. I recommend synthetic here's their link. The Razor Company Link: www.therazorcompany.com?sca_ref=1851327.Ce931qpugF
Do you have any thoughts on the Merkur Vision? It’s one of the wackier looking razors on the market. Off the market now I guess 😂. I don’t think they make them anymore.
Every tme i've nicked myself with R41, it was always with the corner of the blade, great razor but i find it an uncomfortable shave no matter the blade i use.The parker seems like a pretty decent razor..
Great video. I regularly wait a few weeks between shaves but almost always use the clippers first. I do it mainly because as you know shaving off that much growth is very irritating in the skin. #ohioshaves
Got a new one for you to try. Try putting a shim in the r41 just put it on top of the cutting razor instead of on the bottom. I like the r41 but i get alittle wild sometimes and it can bite ya. Doing this seems to do the opposite a shim is sapose to do by making it feel milder. I even tried this on a merkur 34c for a final pass and it’s wonderful imo!
I'm not that crazy. Go over to GeoFatboy channel. I've heard he's done that probably where you saw it .I might as well use a Straight Razor or shavette which I do in November when I shave off 30 days of growth of a beard

#ohioshaves just used my first de razor yesterday. Didn't feel like i got the best shave but I'm still learning. Might up the aggression next time since i did a 3 on the t2.
I have shaved a full beard off with the R41 and it was smooth. The potato peeler (Futur) is very aggressive so I am sure it will do a great job. The Futur is bulky and horrible under the nose and the ugliest DE razor ever made.
Need a heavier razor...I got the 6c you recommended..along with leaf and twig..I use all 3 on one shave but if I let it go 30 days..I would definitely use the weight of the 6c with nacet blade and finish with the twig and feather blade. One or 2 day growth I start with the leaf and 2 Parker blades no irritation at all..parker blades are the most consistent blades yet.
#OhioShaves You are a braver man than I, going in with three maxed out razors. I think the following day would be the proof of how well you did with regards to irritation.
I call my Muhle R41 GS "the German piranha on a stick". And with reason. But it's great for my neck. One pass is all it needs. So no irritation on my neck.
I just want to say I appreciate that you ACTUALLY shave with the razors you review, unlike other channels where they only shave their cheeks...
I feel like it's insincere to review a razor without trying it on the sensitive parts of the face.

I think you’re right. Henson is what I would suggest. You can save 12% off here: The Razor Company Link:

#ohioshaves Thanks for a great shave!
Thank you much
Alum bar to the rescue!😂

just used my first de razor yesterday. Didn't feel like i got the best shave but I'm still learning. Might up the aggression next time since i did a 3 on the t2.
Good call. That razor is easy to dial in. Keep bumping it up.
I have shaved a full beard off with the R41 and it was smooth. The potato peeler (Futur) is very aggressive so I am sure it will do a great job. The Futur is bulky and horrible under the nose and the ugliest DE razor ever made.
Tell us what you really think.💭
Need a heavier razor...I got the 6c you recommended..along with leaf and twig..I use all 3 on one shave but if I let it go 30 days..I would definitely use the weight of the 6c with nacet blade and finish with the twig and feather blade. One or 2 day growth I start with the leaf and 2 Parker blades no irritation at all..parker blades are the most consistent blades yet.

You are a braver man than I, going in with three maxed out razors. I think the following day would be the proof of how well you did with regards to irritation.
No irritation at all. Just a scab where the R 41 cut my skin.
@@OhioShaves well that is fantastic to hear!

Looking forward to more comparison videos..

Very impressive 30 day beard removal. It would take me 6 months to grow a beard that thick😂
Thanks
Think u are sometimes using very shallow angle on r 41
okay. Good tip
it also came to my mind
#OhioShaves You go man! That's a great giveaway!
Thank you much

Thanks for the video! Out of those three I only have the R41 and I love it.
It’s a great razor.
#ohioshaves great video comparison! #thanks !
Thanks for watching
Amazing Shave!!!!!
Thank you much
I call my Muhle R41 GS "the German piranha on a stick". And with reason. But it's great for my neck. One pass is all it needs. So no irritation on my neck.
That's great
#ohioshaves You should try the yaqi top, r41 is mild next to it.
Thats why i dont use it often, r41 for me is pretty smooth.
