I think there's a misunderstanding here. I'd say Saigon's Chinatown is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) Chinatown in the world by population. Not by geographical border. There's about 500,000 ethnic Chinese living in Saigon. And they don't concentrate in one distinct small area like in Manhattan or San Francisco. They spread out across District 5, District 6, District 10, District 11. Because they don't concentrate in 1 distinct area, it's hard to see how "big" it is. So yeah, not biggest in "town" wise, but biggest population wise. Now, Bangkok has about 1 mil Chinese people, but they're not all ethnic Chinese. That population includes Thai, who are Chinese descendants. So we can't really tell the real ethnic Chinese population their. About Hong Kong, I'm not sure why it counts as a China town. Aren't they all Chinese there? And yeah, legally, they're not a part of China until 2045, but that's only on paper. In reality, We've all seen what happened there.
Chinatown is very big, you're not on the right commercial centre of CHinatown, it should be the Binh Tay market and Hai Thuong Lan Ong street....and people take nap around 12-2pm, so expect anywhere to look dead around those hours.
I just returned from Vietnam, watching your vlog, I wanna try doing a solo. District 5 is still the largest Chinatown in the world, the reason it has lost its Chinese character was in the 1980's, the government allowed/forced the Chinese to move out of Vietnam as boat people, this way, they could clear up the Chinese influence a lot, those unfortunately could not get out have to simulated, including speaking more Vietnamese than Chinese. Those Chinese store/restaurant names for business in district 5 were removed, only Vietnamese allowed. That was my observations back in 2006, first time I returned. This time, things changed for better, I saw a few Chinese store/restaurant names showed up in District 5, more Chinese speaking Chinese on the street. So, you are still right about the largest Chinatown in the world.🤣😅 Have more fun in Vietnam 👍
One thing to add is the Vietnamese gov didn't forced Chinese immigrants to flee Vietnam out of nowhere. In 1978, the Rouge Khmer, after committing a genocide on their own Cambodian people, invaded the southern part of Vietnam. Vietnam fought back and went on to invade Cambodia to completely get rid of the Rouge Khmer regime. In 1979, China, who was an ally with the Rough Khmer, invaded the northern part of Vietnam to release pressure for the Rouge Khmer in the south. Vietnam then pivoted and mobilized army go to to the north to fight the Chinese. After those conflicts, Vietnamese gov asked Chinese immigrants to either renounce their Chinese citizenship, or leave the country. Most Chinese in Chinatown at the time still considered themselves Chinese and still had Chinese citizenship. So a large number of them left Vietnam for the US (maybe other European countries as well). The ones who stayed had to accept to be more "Vietnamese" than Chinese.

But Northside and Hanoi are real Vietnam. They are the root and the original of ancient Vietnamese. Go to there and feeling the realest about Viet traditional culture for real, bro.
Can you guys northerners just shut up about it? Admit that the culture there is more traditional, not even the language spoken there is linguistically similar to the Middle and Old Vietnamese even though many people believe that it is (I'm not saying the Southern dialect is more similar either). If you want a full experience of the original Vietnamese culture, go to the North Central region. They retain many old cultural features there since they make less contact with the outsiders including the dialect. Modern Hanoi has changed alot and the people still claim themselves to be the root of the country. Sorry but it would be my pleasure if reunification didn't happen.
I enjoy your videos but quick tip for tourists to Vietnam. If you get to a world famous Banh Mi or coffee shop that you’ve seen a thousand times on social media, walk away. Influencers tend to piggy back other influencers. Walk around a little and go to the shops that the locals are in, not the tourists. That’s where you’ll find the good food.

I thrive with the chaos! It’s anazing
Your First day in Saigon city was wonderful day . Example you got to eat BANH MI " for $1, 62 and many wonderful things in Saigon later ...If compare to USA : " BANH MI " = about $8
Exactly such great value in Vietnam! I love it!
If you eat bread in Hanoi or Saigon, it costs 1.62$. If you eat in smaller cities it costs less than 1$ 😅 . I wish you a happy visit to my country
Thats the best phở place in Saigon!
Joel is lovely
How was your stomach after the dragon fruit? 👀
Felt good, I’ve had a lot of dragon fruit but it does make your urine go a little red, something good to know! 😂
I tried and don’t really like the places that rate the Best online. I mean it’s good but nothing special about that except too meaty for me. There’s times I feel the regular bánh mì they sell at a stand on the street side tasted better. There are many different types of meats for bánh mì too! Also it will be interesting if you have a friend take you inside many small long alleys in the city you will discover where all the people you see from the street comes from!
3 Vietnamese foods you must try in Vietnam before you have a wife: Banh mi, Pho and Bun bo Hue

But Northside and Hanoi are real Vietnam. They are the root and the original of ancient Vietnamese. Go to there and feeling the realest about Viet traditional culture for real, bro.
Don’t worry I head up north later in the Vietnam series, and it’s AMAZING!!
Northern scum ❤
Can you guys northerners just shut up about it? Admit that the culture there is more traditional, not even the language spoken there is linguistically similar to the Middle and Old Vietnamese even though many people believe that it is (I'm not saying the Southern dialect is more similar either). If you want a full experience of the original Vietnamese culture, go to the North Central region. They retain many old cultural features there since they make less contact with the outsiders including the dialect. Modern Hanoi has changed alot and the people still claim themselves to be the root of the country. Sorry but it would be my pleasure if reunification didn't happen.
Banh Mi is Yum 😋
Hello friend I wish you a nice and happy day
wellcome to Việt Nam
Barnaby place? you ok?
WHY ARE YOU ADDING AN "A"!!!!!???
I enjoy your videos but quick tip for tourists to Vietnam.
If you get to a world famous Banh Mi or coffee shop that you’ve seen a thousand times on social media, walk away. Influencers tend to piggy back other influencers.
Walk around a little and go to the shops that the locals are in, not the tourists. That’s where you’ll find the good food.
walking across the street, just walk steady pace and they'll avoid you :)
+1 subscribe, keep it up and do what you doing greatest mate
I would of bargained for the hat 😂
