@@cotop4783 Agreed, however when there are literally thousands of recipes and the index page takes some time to load, you need a search function. This is a non-issue now but it will be in the future.

Your javaScript rants are hilarious, but I really don't think js is the culprit in itself; it's all the ads and trackers. Yeah they might be using javaScript, but that doesn't mean all js is bad. Like many things in this world, js can be used for good or evil.
@@aykranders I was thinking about this hate for js, and if you compare it to mobile apps, web apps are actually much better for a number of reasons, and these apps are only possible with js.
My favourite thing about based.cooking is that you can actually print it with ctrl+p. It even prints with a white background so it doesn't waste ink. Soydev sites are so full of garbage that they need extra JS to make a printable version, which doesn't end up working half the time. My only suggestion is to add an * or (NEW!) next to recipes posted in the last 7 days. As the site fills up I think that will be handy. Also the tags may end up getting so big they push the recipe links off the page, so you might want to swap them around.
I am glad you decided to use Markdown , remember in one of your video you said it's overly complicated all this generation stuff. But in reality Markdown is much easier and doesn't support bloated html tags
This. I think my father would love this site, but sadly his English isn't very good. I also think it would be a good idea to mandate that all units of measurement should be given as both imperial and metric, so that you don't have to convert all the time.

curry and soy has 99% of the traffic
This is why I also love "tldp" and the the Heiku manual.
I wish all websites will load instantly like this
pervert for having a light theme? lol w0t? im ded!

I showed this to my mom when she was complaining about recipe websites. She was exstatic and says she wants to upload her own to it.
Based mom
Thanks. Just made a tasty Borscht recipe from that website. Had to adapt, as I had no broth, but damn is it delicious
this is very amazing! it's awesome how we got so used to bloated websites, and this is like eye drops! thanks a lot, my guy. I hope this inspires devs to go for less bloated code :)
Now I need to make some Feijoada and takes pictures to contribute my recipe to this site. Maybe some Sopa de Macaco too.
Share tapioca and pão de queijo recipes with the world

The virgin imageboard loser vs the chad chopping board chef
Next step: Add based.cooking/en; based.cooking/es; based.cooking/br etc so we can start translating recipes/adding recipes in different languages
lol, luke would NEVER do that.
Omw to register meth.cooking as a domain
12 tablespoons of tomato paste, wow.
With a little change on the fonts, all normies will obey
Now THIS is what the internet should be like. As a frontend web dev, it's really refreshing to see simple sites without J*vaScript.
My only questions are:
Can a search function be implemented? It's going to be useful when there are thousands of recipes.
- can the SSG support multiple languages?
the search function already comes with most browsers, it's commonly bound to strg+f
@@cotop4783 Agreed, however when there are literally thousands of recipes and the index page takes some time to load, you need a search function. This is a non-issue now but it will be in the future.
Based is out, keyed is also out. Only gem is in.
This is awesome man. Thanks so much to you and all contributors
I literally started learning JS recently and then I found out about this guy. I am not sure what should I do. I was learning the JS in order to get paid... :S
Based cooking? Based on what?
Your javaScript rants are hilarious, but I really don't think js is the culprit in itself; it's all the ads and trackers. Yeah they might be using javaScript, but that doesn't mean all js is bad. Like many things in this world, js can be used for good or evil.
JS itself is not evil, but most people use it for stupid and unnecessary or even malicious things.
@@aykranders I was thinking about this hate for js, and if you compare it to mobile apps, web apps are actually much better for a number of reasons, and these apps are only possible with js.
The audio at the end of the video was cut off to reduce additional bloat
Somebody who runs light theme: a pervert.
That's hilarious
Using CSS's grid is an amazing native way to create good responsive layouts.
This is how the internet was supposed to be, then the Marketing industry be like "hold my beer".
This website goes hard feel free to contribute

I want to see Luke Smith make a rap song verbally attacking SoyDevs.
Awesome. I shall bestow you with my secret based mac and cheese recipe.
But Luke! You're supposed to use 14 different javascript frameworks, 3 css libraries, and lots of google ads!
Ready for a flood of lukeposters on /ck/
I am glad you decided to use Markdown , remember in one of your video you said it's overly complicated all this generation stuff. But in reality Markdown is much easier and doesn't support bloated html tags
Posting to sites via git should be far more commonplace anyways.
>put together by some random people
S-senpai acknowledged me..
t. the Makefile guy
But how am I supposed to integrate Facebook and Pinterest ? REEEEEE
Wow, it has a responsive layout! ;)
Can't wait for all the wonderful recipes involving soy to be added
looks like old school internet, except lack of flashing gifs. nice and simple and functional how it should be
It might be useful to be able to submit recipes in different languages.
This. I think my father would love this site, but sadly his English isn't very good. I also think it would be a good idea to mandate that all units of measurement should be given as both imperial and metric, so that you don't have to convert all the time.
@@violenceisfun What's wrong with you? This is the internet, not America.
@Zavier Botsford As long as that's not stated at the website or the Git repo, it's just your opinion.
@Zavier Botsford Ah, you're just a troll :P
outstanding, I love it, it's crazy it hadn't been done by now
thx bro now im going to cook more, appreciate it
Luke really knows how to make a good thumbnail XD
I only listen to fashwave in low compression format that I DL'd from p2p source

getting back to the roots of the word based by involving cooking as seen in lil b the basedgod's iconic cooking dance
This project is super cool, though is there any support for translations ?
I would actually love translating for this
Second that, I could contribute to translations for this, and it would probably make the site much more useful, and something I can recommend to my family members who don't speak English
Third that, I have recipes but Ill need to translate them first.
I kinda miss search by tag/name function for non technical buddies
I think you could submit a github issue talking about this
@@Carlos-qi8er Looks like Luke already replied there, and said no : github.com/LukeSmithxyz/based.cooking/issues/82
I may consider running a french fork of it, though I don't know if I have the time to maintain a whole project like this at the moment.
@@zeGolem83 yep i've already look that, i guess luke need to be alert with people submiting house bomb tutorials

Heil Luke,
I'm from italy and my mother has something like 10 notebooks full of recipes, unfortunately I'm too lazy
So we need a way to convert word documents to markdown and then your mother can submit them herself :D
@@liquidsnake6879 She doesn't even know how to turn on the computer, she's over 60 years old
click photos + then OCR. Perhaps you could also use some LLM to parse them to a default format
0:35 I as a dude who cooks often 100% agree with this man
Well, maybe abit more CSS and you'll get a pretty cooking website no js required. Good job!
A bit more XSS
For sure, I agree, not bloated doesn't mean it can't be more elegant with a bit of CSS. That + organized information makes the difference between people using it or not
If the html file is well tagged, it won't be a problem for people to make many css designs and then simply choose on of the many ideas
Javascript is the most overrated tech there is tbh and i'm a Javascript developer lol
He's getting handsome by the videos
How did you get the instant filtering when typing in to the search field without JavaScript? I am genuinely curious
Edit: Okay it has a element, so JS. I just found it.
you inspired me now to learn how to coke, the only thing that kept me from learning new recipes and how to really coke is those freaking terrible sites on my dual core processor :^(
Thanks luke
They should make .based a TLD.
A way to make it cost absolutely nothing is to use GitHub to host the static site, using your own domain, and automating it so when a pull request is approved, the site is automatically rebuilt and served.
