  • In this video I venture to some drains that run allong side the canal in search of the fish lurking inside them. Using dead rats and miced as bait and using my baitcasting setup with topwater blowups.

When I was a kid back in the 70s I found an old fishing book, probably dated from the 50s. It had an illustration on how to fish a live mouse, a rubber band was put around the mouse and your hook would go under the rubber band. Then you'd walk it over the water with a cane pole. I never tried it, but that part of that book always stuck in my head lol.

Was fishing on the great Ouse once for pike from a dinghy. We stopped off for lunch where an overflow ran out from the river, probably about 3-4 ft wide and no more than 10 inch Deep. Someone had been cutting the grass and had killed a Mole which I hooked up and dropped it in. Had a fantastic battle with a Chub around 5lbs and a large Pike. Both kept coming out trying to take it. Eventually the Pike won and I landed it around 10lbs.

Watching your mouse video I might do a bit of trapping and take a few trips away from my homemade lures and try fishing with mice. I'm sure my viewers would love seeing some trapping videos and then fishing with the catch. Love catching Creek Chub they are fun, fighters and plentiful. We have various species in my area, even ones that have horns growing from their heads. Really cool fish.
