- A time-lapse build of Airfix's 1/76 scale T34, the most widely used Russian tank in the Second World War.
More challenging than I thought it would be, but then it was an old mould. I enjoyed it though!

I think Airfix put a little too much historical accuracy in that turret!
Lol
Oof
Haha
lmao
I meant to say 1/76 scale at the beginning! I make too many planes haha! Anyway, hope you all enjoy it
Video! And A Great One!
+Quick Kits in spite of the poor parts fit, and those tracks, you've done a terrific job. i think it looks fantastic. and the weathering job looks super too !
czech mate ! hahaha :)
Haha thanks Jake!
+bohngi3 Thank you I'm glad you think it looks so good! Is everyone referring to me putting Russian in the description? See I thought they were Russian manufactured but then this one just had czech markings :/
+Quick Kits your description is fine, as it is a russian tank regardless of who's operating it. i was just trying to inject a little witty humor. and again, great job ! :)
Reminds me when I built an Airfix Panzer III many, many years ago. I decided to make a little cardboard surrounding diorama that tried to show the Western Desert - I remember getting really small twigs to put on the tank, and then made up a couple of trees in the background, along with some rocks and sand. I never got around to doing any further dioramas!
for the tracks, i would recommend using instant glue or super glue to attach the tracks to the wheel it may give better look
If you're mad about it fitting poorly, look at a real T-34...
At the beginning of barbarossa the t-34 of wich 1000 had been deployed still had quality but seen as the germans were defeating them ussr got aid from uk and America the lend-lease after ussr had fuel money steel to make better equipment they made the t-34 at mass at that point quality over quantity had become quantity over quality and they produced t 34 crudely armour plates hardly fitted together their were gaps in the tank but it was good enough since after one battle they would be knocked out anyway, sometimes they lasted 2-3 battles but that was sometimes after the crews tank would be destroyed they could just get another one since they made 48.000 t-34/85 and almost 30.000 model 1940'1'2'3
This isn’t a real t34. Parts are supposed to fit well
Welcome back go to see you are still active. You are one of the few scale modeling youtubers who actually do models without an airbrush but managed to create ways that give really similar effects (and cheap ways for that matter) for that you are one of my top scale modeling youtubers keep it up :D
I'm glad you appreciate my efforts to not use an airbrush and keep things cheap but effective, thank you! :)
The parts aren't supposed to fit together, it's a Russian tank 😂
I love this comment 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Soviet actually, the these tanks were made in the USSR times
Yeah...
F
Ironically Soviet tanks such as the t34 are made to be easily repaired and parts swapped(engine, etc)
Who else just paints their model and sits it outside for a week for free weathering?
Haha lol, that's actually not a bad idea...
Thats works?!
+Andy Wilderness That's the thing. Fresh, new tanks are a bit bland. Weather it and put it in a diorama and it's now more interesting.
+Andy Wilderness Russian tanks were literally being cranked out as fast as possible in makeshift tractor factories, I doubt the tank commanders would waste time cleaning tanks when Russia was on it's knees.
Its all about making model that looks best for you. You can even take crap on top if that way it will look good for you :)
Man what would i do without your videos on youtube. No seatbelt's out of masking-tape in cockpits and no chalkwashes. Your experience is brilliant 😄
Aww thanks, I'm glad my videos have helped you so much! :)
I think your welding detail was a lot better than you described in the video. It was to scale and quite realistic. I really love that you are making all of the old kits that I grew up with and the realism that you achieve has inspired me to get back into making kits. Thanks very much for the videos, I really enjoy your format and the way you have linked to other videos that provide more details on the special techniques such as the chalk washes. Keep up the good work! All the best from Oz.
Thank you very much for your comment, I'm glad you like the videos and that they've inspired you!! :)
Nice Kit and Nice Building. I Love like you paint the Models with pre-Shades. Looks so good! I Hope we can hear you again soon!
Thanks, I'm glad you like it :)
Interesting method on the chipping. Certainly less of a bother than what I did on the Panzer II I just finished. I spray painted the model in flat black. Once that dried, I cut off a piece of kitchen sponge, and used it to dab masking fluid wherever I wanted chipping. After painting over the model, I peeled off the masking fluid, and voila! a very nice chipped look.
I was actually gonna try that technique, but for winter camo coming off to reveal the green underneath. But then I liked how this model turned out so much that I don't know if I want to do it on this one any more!
+Quick Kits I'm planning on doing up that M4A3 Sherman in winter camo. I'm going to try a very rich chalk wash using white chalk.
I'd never have though of using a white chalk wash for winter camo, I'd be interested to hear how it turns out!
+Quick Kits I ran some tests with some of the alternate build parts. I found just using watered down flat white Acrylic worked a lot better.
This is a Czechoslovak tank :)
Demacia CZECH It's a Soviet tank in Czechoslovak service
Its only in Czech service
I just bought this model, so it was nice to see your video. Thanks.
Finally I can hear your pleasant voice, welcome again :) We missed you ...
Haha thanks, I've missed making these videos! :)
for realistic sag on tracks you can apply a little bit of CA glue to the wheels and wedge crumpled up pieces of foil in between the track and body to secure it
Thanks teacher by to teach us your kits and your wise and skill form to work....congratulations for to share your knowledge...
Great job on such a dated kit. Even with flaws, you made it a nice display model. Well done.Bill.
Thanks Bill, I'm glad you think that!
Its beautiful owen Iam really glad your back ! Mind blowing work!
Haha thank you! :D
You did a great job! especially with the weld marks!
Thank you! Glad you think they look ok haha
very cool build, nice to have you back.
Thank you, it's nice to be back
Hello Owen, I truly suggest Tamiya as they create very high quality models and there are never bad moulding. I used to make air fix, but when I found out about Tamiya I never went back.
Tamiya are brilliant I agree from my limited experience of only one of their kits haha! Old Airfix tooling is bad yes, but they have improved massively with their new tooling, you might want to take another look some time :) (depends on how long ago it was that you switched)
I love making models and I have been looking for a good channel to watch how to make a amazing models I then found quick kits it's amazing keep going I love watching your videos
Really nice I was thinking of using your techniques on a 1/35 IS-2 ( I am not in a situation to buy an airbrush ) combined with hairspray technique. I just wanna say thank you for everything you are really helpful nice to have you back
Cool I hope your IS turns out well! And no problem haha! :)
T34 was a rocket launcher mounted to M4A3
T-34 was a tank
Hi Nibrasakhi! Love ur builds! My BW account is General Rem
T34 American heavy tank
apart from the filling it looks an OK lil kit... 😁
Happy crafting
Rubber tracks are best superglued on - you can show the droop at the top, plus copious superglue makes them more rigid, you're paint finish is less likely to flake off. This model of the T 34 with its choice of turrets I found inspirational as a boy in the early 1970s, I thought it was a great wargaming peice (along with Airfixs then set of Russian infantry with HMGs on a trailer, and heavy mortars. You could convert the tank into an SU 100
i really liked the welding technik
1:35 scale is the best for weld seams
Thank God your back Owen great video!!!
Haha thanks, it's good to be back!
Quick Kits I just purchased a North American Mustang IV and build time lapse should be up soon
I have never seen such huge gaps. What did they do during the construction of this kit? Drugs or simply to much coffee?!? ;-)
+Zammpie Old molds, I reckon. We were still fighting the Vietnam War when those molds cranked out their first T-34 kits. But then again, the Tamiya Panzer II I just finished came from molds from the early 70s, and it fit together very well, really only broke out the contour putty for the Commander and the soldiers.
Mate it's airfix, it's always going to be shit.
Awesome job! when i make my tanks and if its rubber tracks i just use super glue and stick them to the wheels to make a weight effect.
WELCOME BACK MAN. Miss your videos and I hope you have been ok. Good video to
Thanks, I've been fine, just a lot of college work. I've missed making these videos!
Yeah I really need to record my building process. Working on a B-25j by revell. Very fun and easy kit, barley any molding errors. Its a 1-48th scale.
Great video. Really cool to see a video again.
Thanks Toby!
Airfix can be very sloppy with their kit mouldings, but you did a good job with this one.
I like our national tanks because I am from the Czech Republic
Is this a good kit for me and my nine year old boy to start please as beginners ? I got him a 1:48 supermarine spitfire but it looks a bit daunting but we do have all the paints for it ? Any help would be gratefully appreciated..thanks
Probably not this kit, but something similar is the Airfix 1/76 Cromwell Starter Set (I've made a video on it 😉). At that age I started out making 1/72 scale and 1/76 scale kits - they can be fiddly, but there are less parts and they're cheaper to learn with
Well done on doing a great job on a difficult kit. This was one of the first kits I built when I started getting back into the hobby(other one was the Stalin tank)and it doesn't look half as good as yours. Great stuff!!
Thank you, I'm sure yours still looks cool! Gald you enjoyed the video
Having seen the real t34-85 at Bovington, I wouldn’t worry about gaps too much as the Russians didn’t
Right on schedule. 👍🏻
love this thank you very much for this chanell ! !! don´t stop ! !! never !
Haha I'm glad you enjoy my videos so much!! :) Thank you for commenting!!
He stopee
Stopped
I remember doing this kit 47 years ago.
Thats very small!!! wow! youre the best.
Haha thank you!
Great job on the T34, it's a shame about those tracks, but you can only build what is in the kit. Apart from the tracks and the turret gaps this looks like a good kit. Perhaps there is a better mould available now from Airfix to resolve these issues??
I think that might be the case, I got it in a clearance sale from the website so maybe they're re-tooling it?
How is it that you only have 6,000 subs? This is my first video of you i had seen and you should have like 100,000! You're channel is awesome and keep up the good work bud!
Thanks!! It would be amazing if I got there one day haha, but who knows?
now that turret was a filler queen. looks great Owen. may I ask though, the Matt varnish? I assume it was brushed on? if so did you thin it and did it not effect the chalk wash? whats next?
I actually use a rattle can for the matt varnish because otherwise, yes, it would probably mess up the wash :D Next is History, Film Studies and EPQ coursework, with hopefully a Behind the Scenes video next week hahaha! :)
+Quick Kits good stuff.
I don’t know if u want to know that but at the front of the barrel the paint often chipped of due to heat or something
I love your videos. Very quick and informative. And, you use Humbrol!!! is great.
I paint only with Humbrol Enamel, and I have a problem with the washes. I saw all using acrylic, so washes are easy, but with Humbrol, if we put a wash usig for example black paint and thinner, we ruin the base paint!. So, what can I do?.
I saw people putting satin varnish but I think thinner will ruin it too.
I'd recommend you use a chalk wash (I have a video on it) rather than a paint wash, or buy some proper weathering products. Chalks and weathering materials won't corrode your base coats
Nice works!
Keep it up Owen!!
Thanks, will try! :)
Thank you for the video. :) You really helped me with my first tank model - T34/76 :D
you can just put coins in there to weigh it down and I used peices of the sprue to hold tracks down.
Does any one know what flashing or flushing , as mentioned at 0:30, is? if so please let me know
"Flash" is the little thin bits of plastic that stick out from the parts, where the plastic has seeped out of the mould. It's difficult to explain without a picture
I think i know what you mean since i saw some thing like what you described. thanks
great channel thamks for this tutorial
Thank you!
great birthday present thanks!!!
Amazing! Why don't you have 1 million subs
Burnt Toast
Because modelling is a very niche subject, so not as many people watch these kind of videos compared to let's plays and shitty vines
Awesome vid. Great looking model keep up the good work! :)
Thanks I'm glad you think that :D
love your vids keep up the good work
Ur finally back yay
I am indeed for a short time
amazing
I would really like to see a diorama tutorial/tips video.
Try looking at qdc748a on RUclips
Where are your old model videos with the spitfires and mustangs. Also the stuka and whitlwind. And me 109. Those were the videos that got me into modelling
Those were on my old channel which, and they've now been removed. I still have them on my computer though. It's nice to hear that those were what got you into modelling! :)
it's not 1/72nd btw. Airfix stuck to the 00 railway scale of 1/76. It's noticably smaller if one's collection is otherwise 1/72.
I remember building this kit back in the 1960s.... It hasn't changed a bit, exceot for the decals. Those Airfix tracks always were a problem, and I recognise the fuel tank issues. That's how kits were then! You'd think Airfix would have sorted their AFV models in 50+ years!
i got a few questions to ask, what can be used to apply filler, what is the purpose of pre-shading, was the paint you used for pre shading thinned 50/50, what brush size did you use for painting the main colour of the tank? and that's a great t 34
Filler can be applied using anything; a piece of cardboard, a flat-head screwdriver etc.
Pre-shading discolours the paint you cover it with, so it can be used to get a stressed weathering effect. I'm using it to futher darken dark areas of the kit in this video.
I always thin my paint, so yes, but I've found that actually the 50:50 ratio can be too thin sometimes.
The brush I used was just one of the standard Humbrol ones, about 5mm.
Welcome back!
Thanks :)
mabye you just got a "lemon kit". ones that don't line up or have pins the wrong size from their sockets ect. ect.
also I've got a large collection of ww2 aircraft but wanting to get into tanks, any tips for a newbie?
I'd recommend assembling the whole tank (but without the tracks on) for painting, but don't glue the upper and lower hull together. Then when you've done all the painting you can separate the upper and lower pieces and easily put on the tracks. Might not work for every model tank
Thanks
Nice video
Thank you!
Another great one. Do you ever use primer? Instead of the matchstick, Paperclip and play doh could you super glue them?
nice model :D
The kit looks nice is it worth buying 1 ?
your back it's great your back
Ah yes, my favorite tank.
The T34-37
There is some distortion in the video, very noticeable near the end. Is the lens of the camera very narrow? It seems like there is no perspective!
Hi Owen! How do you dry brush? the tracks.
To dry brush get a small amount of paint on your brush and remove excess paint by brushing some of the paint off onto a paper towel. Then when you use the brush on the model, only a very small amount of paint will be applied to the model on the raised detail.
thanks! when are you coming out with a new video, what would it be?
I am from Czech republic man !! :D
Good video really helped me whith learning new technequs on making my tanks look better and more detailed , I was wondering if you could build the Airfix panther tank at some point?
Thank you! I'm glad my videos have helped you :) I'll add your suggestion to the list, I would love to make a panther, but I can't say I'll get round to it any time soon
Ok, thank you for replying keep up the good videos!
good vid which model are you doing next?
I'm not sure, I might have to have a vote
+Quick Kits hey, the airfix new mold bristol blenheim in 1/72 might be a neat choice ! ;)
Quick Kits are u aloud to mix enamel and acrylic
No, they won't mix
Wait Owen !!!!.... wait !!!!... can you post a video showing at normal speed the trick with the paper clip for the tracks, please ?. Is very interesting but too fast
You should really try some 1:72 Dragon kits
Mm I know, I'll probably get round to one some day :')
I love your videos, and you have inspired me to paintbrush my models! What product did you use for the filler?
What's better 1/35 or this scale
+Airbornerock Smaller scale is usually good place to start because they are cheaper and a good way to get some practice. 1/35 scale can quickly become very expensive. But in return you can get very detailed kits all the way down to the geartrain on a tank engine. But kits like these can range up to €100 and above. Right now I have a 1/16 scale Su-100 which is massive and has over 1200 parts and a Tiger 1 in 1/35 scale with about 500 parts. In contrast I have a 1/72 scale Tiger 2 that had about 40 parts. But still looks pretty good after some care has given. Just like he showed you in this video.
This scale is quicker to build because it's smaller, however I do like the detail you get on 1/35 scale kits and you can do more fun weathering effects like adding actual mud to them.
True that, I usually build 1/35 but they take up alot of space. thinking about doing 1/48 or 1/72
Hey owen what did you use to thin your paint at the start of the painting
+JoshiBlob • hey Josh! Humbrol enamel thinners, I used enamel paints on this one
+Quick Kits ah I see, I'm doing the king tiger now, almost finished, video should be up next week
JoshiBlob 😊😊👍👍
Great job my friend 5 *
Thanks!
does anyone know the humbrol colour for the german dunkelgrau on their armoured vehicles?
and does the humbrol enamel gloss varnish from the tinlets require any thinning before usage?
I-it’s so small
Why do I find that cute?
I don't know if you already know this, but there is a free game called War Thunder that has awesome models of the vehicles. On top of being a fun ww2 game, you could use the models as a reference if you wanted. Anyway great videos and keep up the good work!
I am aware of the game but I've never found time to download it (my internet connection is REALLY bad) and I never really have time to play games anyway. However, that is a very good tip and other people should listen to it. Thank you for your comment :)
+Quick Kits It's a good game although the developers have a problem with making Russian vehicles perform way better than they did in real life, and censoring reviews online.
Any plans to do any modern aircraft?
+Robert Gidman I would like to at some point, I don't have much time at the moment though. You could look at 'JoshiBlob' who's pioneering my techniques in the mean time, I know he's done a few jets and I'm sure he'd appreciate the support
what glue do you recomend??? and what are you applieing with?
Cheers
He is using Humbrol glue though. I recommend Tamiya Extra Thin Cement.
what do you use for filler?
Deluxe Materials' Perfect Plastic Putty
that's so cool you can build 2 turrets
Model looked better before chalk wash, washing ruined it for me :( I think dry chalk pastels in some smart areas would be better :)
Yes, perhaps this model didn't need the wash as there wasn't any recessed detail, and dry chalks would have created a better dusty effect... I'll try your suggestion on the Sherman I'm building :)
where you buy these plastic model ?
Nguyen Thai Binh Airfix Isn't worth it
Well most T-34's during there production was fast to have made production of these tanks during WWII, But Most of them having gaps and never making the tanks flawless like German tanks, so it's ok to have gaps in them, it's like T-34 production :)
If I got this kit I would probably make the base with all the wheels and then make a custom body of a tiger tank to make the tiger from Kelly’s heroes
quick kits how long did it take you to build that
Over the course of a week
This was my first model kit I ever build! Glad to see it!
is that panzer from tamiya brand??
Yeah the Panzer IV I made is the Tamiya one :)
Great👍
what do you use as filler?
Ronseal Smooth finish filler
I comment alot. lol
