If food was a love language, Cheese stuffed hashbrowns (for me) would be the equivalence a marriage proposal.
Years ago Burger King had cheese stuffed tater tots...
They were sheer perfection.
Honestly same
Going to have to jot that one down!
Food IS a love language. So much care and time can be put into creating food- and well.. this? this is true love in its simplest and purest form.
Agree. This is genius
My God, this is one of the greatest recipe ideas I've heard/seen in my whole life.
Yessssssss
Indeed.
Thanks Emmy. Love it! 😋
Didn't your comment reach 5k yet.😁
Yes most definitely.
I'm surprised McD hasn't done it themselves!
I love how a lot of you tubers are all down for super healthy recipes and Emmy just says things like “I love toast” and “ you can’t go wrong with fried potatoes” it’s refreshing
And she eats food that contain gluten and lactose.
Get you someone who looks at you like Emmy looks at that cheesy hashbrown.
like really lmaooo
😂
😏
i literally came to type exactly this
😂
The McDonalds hashbrowns are literally one of my favorite things on their menu.
That and the fries are the only reason I go there. Oh yeah and the Shamrock Shakes every year in March.
Did they increase the price of them?? I felt like they were much cheaper. Now they're kinda expensive.
@@territimmerman140 have you tried Wendy's fries dipped in their cheese sauce?
Yum I know! I adore their deluxe fried chicken sandwich with them. That thing is the bomb. My grandkids say they cook it in butter. Fine by me I love butter. Real butter. And mayo and lots of tomatoes and lettuce! The fish was always my fave but Idk now. That chicken is so good.😉🥔🍗🥪🍟🍅
@@hundragant Yes. Everything. It's really getting scary.🤯
Imagine that cheese stuffed version with pepper jack, smoked Gouda, or cheddar...
Pepper Jack 😋👌👌
Smoked. Gouda.
Oh yes please.
Havarti and also some flavour cheese, like a sharp cheddar, Havarti is an amazing addition to any cheese
I go to a pub locally and my burger always is Havarti and chedar and it is just unreasonably good
I happily eat it even though I react so poorly to cheese that it has sent me to the hospital multiple times
Omg now I’m hungry😭

Okay but I never knew there was an "eye removing tool" on potato peelers before. 😅
My bf ordered cheesy tots last weekend thought it meant the cheese was stuffed inside the tots when it was just layered on top, I strongly believe that this video was on my feed for a reason lol.
Thank you, Emmy!
You're welcome. 💫
Removing the eyes with the peeler totally blew my mind too.
Hello 👋 how are you doing
"Rinse them with water to remove the extra starch."
"Now, put them in a bowl and stir in some extra starch."
I'm sure there's some kind of reason for this, some difference between potato and corn starches, but I found it slightly perplexing, as well as humorous.
Cornstarch and potato starch have very different properties. The starches inside the potatoes don't help crisp. They convert to sugar and promote browning. If you leave the starch on them, they will turn very dark brown before they crisp up. They also have a tendency to turn an unappetizing grey color on all the cut edges, which would be hugely noticeable inside something like hash browns with all the little potato bits having hundreds of cut edges. Also, not rinsing the potato starch off can leave you with a gummy interior, whereas cornstarch absorbs some of the moisture and holds them together without causing the gummy texture 😉
@@teridoster5840 Excellent explanation! Thanks for that. I do still find it humorous, even though there's scientific reason for it.
@@SkiesTurnedGrey you're welcome, and yes, it does seem counterintuitive, so it's not odd to find it amusing 😉
@@teridoster5840 Thanks for that explanation, I've seen that greyish colour on my cut potatoes, know how to avoid that happening now:)
@@margieinnes4638 no problem, glad I could help!
Just when I thought Emmy couldn’t get any more wholesome, she talks about composting and how she’s chill with the lil animals getting their meal out of it

Hello 👋 how are you doing
Exactly my thoughts. I love her exuberance.
I'm a truck driver and i pick up loads from the Or-Ida plant on the Oregon/ Idaho border pretty often. The whole dang town smells like French fries sometimes lol
Mmmmmz, that sounds utterly delightful smelling but also absurdly hunger inducing.
@@SylviaRustyFae it's certainly better than when i pick up from the purina cat food plant in Denver 🤮
@@driverjayne 😂
I love the smell of fries.
I'll be at Wal-Mart and I can smell Wendy's fries in the air. Wendy's is about 200 feet from Wal-Mart, depending on where you park.
It smells soooo good. 😋
that's why it's called orida.... my mind is blown
Professional says "Just buy store bought, it's too hard to make."
Emmy: "Hold my spatula, I got this!!"
Professionals: Just buy frozen french fries, too hard to attempt
I'm starting to think professionals aren't professionals especially on food that originally weren't fast food and was made at home
She got this big time! Nice!
Chances are the in restaurant versions are more complicated then this. I wudnt be shocked if mcdonalds is using a very specific kind of potato with the exact starch ratio they need and sourcing that potato is likely hard except for when one is mcdonalds.
That and they most definitely add more seasonings than just salt to their potatoes. Likely the person is only used to cooking it on a huge grill surface in large batches and just thinks it wud take way too long to make that.
I imagine this specific task is a daily task that takes a worker or two about an hrs worth of work to prep for hash browns needed for just their far too short brkfast window. So to many folks that wud just seem like way too much complication considering the oreida ones will taste almost as good, and as good if ya top them with msg and cheese
My husband is on of them but never seems to buy anything.
Hello 👋 how are you doing
Ain’t I’m a lucky swede, I just woke up, and grabbed my phone to look what time it is, 2:05 in the middle of the night. But how can I go back to sleep when I know that Emmy is going to make homemade hash browns for us? No it would not work out, so now I’m all snuggled up in bed with my two puppies and will enjoying this episode ❤️ there is always a meaning why things happens, and this was just that! A little meaningful thing that’s makes me so happy, and I’m not tired at all 😍🌹

A couple of tips for these - If you're using a skillet rather than a deep fryer, just make sure you have enough oil for the patties to float a bit. If they rest on the pan, they scorch very quickly. These also freeze very well if you wrap each one in plastic wrap to keep them from forming crystals, then store them in whatever container is practical for your freezer. Just don't fry them and then freeze; you only get mush lol. Form, freeze, then fry.
nah you only ned a little bit of oil. it doesn't even have to be covered, maybe just halfway up the hashrbrowns is fine
Emmy, as soon as you begin talking cheese, it really makes a man’s heart skip up several beats! McD’s has been missing out for decades on this idea. 💡
I cannot wait to make these I'm probably gonna fry these just right before they're brown so I can make a lot of them to freeze n just fry them golden in the morning for bfast
Great idea!!
Pretty sure that's how McDonald's does it. Just like with the fries, they partially cook them in the factory and put them in the deep freeze and then send them to the restaurants and then at the restaurant they just throw it in the fryer for like 2 minutes and then it's done to perfect golden perfection
Good idea!
If ya want to simulate the beef tallow you can infuse your cooking oil with some beef bouillon and if ya want more potato flavour or just dont have corn starch for whatevs reason... You can use the reserved starch from the potato water (it will settle to the bottom in a short while, faster if in the fridge; shud be done by finishin cookin and shaping tatoes honestly).
It also just feels cool to make the recipe with even less ingredients that way heh. Just potatoes and oil is all you need rly.
Hello 👋 how are you doing
It's 1am in the UK and I'm here 3 minutes after an upload that contains cheese! 😍🎉 What. A. Day!

I need cheese-stuffed hash browns in my life so bad right now.
I so enjoy the childlike way you enjoy your creations! That cheese stretch was so joyful!!
I watch Emmy when I get home from school everyday! I’m out for the summer so I can whenever!
Omg, Emmy wore a self-portrait shirt. There is no one like her and she is mythical in her awesomeness!
Hello 👋 how are you doing
This looks so tasty! Cheese-stuffed sounds even better!
There is no improving perfection.
I would destroy them even tho cheese sends me to the ER
I actually dug out potatoes and tomato plants that were growing in my compost, just from my kitchen scraps!
Before I moved out I had a composte bin at my dads place and had a similar situation just with onions or garlic plants sprouting
Volunteers!! Transplant them.
That's so neat and welcomed ! 😊
Understatement of the year: "I like these slight more than the McDonald's version"
You’re actually an angel sent from above, everything about you and your soul NEEDS TO BE PROTECTED! Such a pure energy😭😭😭😭😭🥺🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Additional stuffing thoughts: diced bacon, small amounts of diced jalapeno.
I like that idea, it’d almost be good to have the bacon jalapeño incorporated into the patty then make a super rich queso dip for it.
A well minced combo of bacon onion and your pepper of choice.
Thin sliced onion rings could be good too 🤔
this is the calmest, least chaotic frying ive ever seen. sigh i wish that could be me
literally. when i did these, it looked like a bomb went off in my kitchen. small bits of potato, grease, paper towels, EVERYWHERE. they're also sickeningly greasy, but i think that's on me for cooking them too low lol
Exactly I love baking and cooking but I hate frying so I always stay away from recipes that need frying
If the frying is a major issue for yall, and i get that and wudnt judge for it, then there's always air fryers and they can cook these up just as tasty... I wud just then recommend A: adding some more oil (or even butter) for the initial cooking and shaping, this is just for flavour rly as the air fryer wont have the oil infused flavour otherwise. 2: Going the cheese stuffd route or even adding other stuffing ideas (like jalapeños as another person suggestd) and more seasonings than just salt.
This will make a different kind of hash brown but i betcha it tastes as good. Its rly prty much baking them, but it does it at more frying pan heat levels than your oven will ever hit.
Tho you cud also stick the hash browns under your oven's grill (what American's wud call a broiler) and watch them closely and flip when they get colour. This will give you more of a roasted hash brown flavour but can cook up rly fast like a frying pan wud and avoids the scaryness of working with hot dripping oil 🔥
Or just bake them and get subpar hash browns.
@@SylviaRustyFae i mean it's okay, it's just for special occasions though, you know? lol
@@dAfoodie101 Im just suggestin alternatives so one need not fry at all if they dont wanna. And it lets you have it much more often too. It's just potatoes and salt rly; so its not like its anything you shudnt be eating that often. A potato a day keeps the doctor away as they say.
We dont have a compost bin, instead we have guinea pigs! They eat the veggie and fruit scraps, and their droppings make excellent fertilizer for the lawn and flowers.
"putting the hash brown in the sandwich and eating it all together"
ok how has that never occurred to me
Also a grt idea... Get a mcdouble and a mchicken and put the mchicken in the mcdouble. It's like $3 and far tastier than a big mac. Probs even better with a hash brown or two.
(in as in between the two burger patties if ya can pull them apart)
Thank you Emmy for leaving the critters alone as they enjoy what I can only imagine is an eclectic and delicious buffet!
We compost, we attended a Penn State lecture years ago, and got a free compost container. We have used it ever since.
This looks great! I'm definitely going to try to make these with my son. He loves the hash browns at McDonald's, so I know he would love the cheese version. My go-to McDonald's breakfast used to be a sausage McMuffin (no egg), with a hash brown inside, and a smear of either grape jam or ketchup. Very unhealthy, but very delicious. lol

It is astounding how amazing Emmy is at everything. Your videos give me peace like no other and I love you so very much!
We can't wait to compost! Our offer was just excepted for our homestead! ❤️ I read that raw potato and potato skins can make your chickens sick. I don't personally know but I have been reading chicken raising books because we plan to start with that. I know you have chickens so just saying I'm case your chickens eat from the compost pile. 😉
I've had chickens for around 30 years, and I've definitely tossed compost containing raw potato peelings into places they like to scratch into for food. They don't eat the potato peels , and they ignore onion peels, onion root end chunks, and so on. Do be mindful not to give them something with chocolate in it. They will eat it and they shouldn't.
@@rebekahyoder9335 Yes my experience with chickens is that they just won't eat things that are bad for them. Chocolate though, well I've never put any so they could get to it.
Hii mommaa! I wonder if you've heard about the no knead bread on tiktok! I think it's an interesting idea for you next video. Its really easy, and may inspired people who are afraid to try to make their own bread! 💕 love from Malaysia

You need to try the Japanese method of composting called Bokashi. Bokashi is a Japanese word meaning "fermented organic matter." Developed in the early 1980s by Dr. Teuro Higa, a professor at the University of Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan, the method involves layering kitchen scraps (vegetables and fruits, as well as meat and dairy scraps) with a Bokashi inoculant in a special bucket. This means that you can compost leftover foods from dinner as well. This technique is faster, easier, and you dont have to worry about what you can compost and what you cannot...

Compost love. I'm happy to say I had familiarity with compost growing up. The very simple version back then for backyard plots of veggies and fruits. Now Composting doesn't smell nearly as much, which combined with the resurgence in interest in sustainability, has made it accessible, popular, and to some degree in vogue.
