When I get home I clean the bottom of my shoes. I will sometimes put them outside to air- and/or spray a disinfectant inside before putting on my shelves. I put a fabric sheet in my heels to keep my closet fresh.
The lotion hack was great. Sometimes I have used petroleum jelly as a refresher for the leather.

I try never to wear the same pair of shoes two days running. This allows the shoes to fully air between wearing.
