- I filmed this a long time ago when I was first learning to work on putters and the end result isn't all that great. Check out my instagram account @theputterdepot for some more up to date refinishes and better quality refinishes.

Shoot me an email at theputterdepot@gmail.com if you're interested in having one of your putters refinished.
the best putter Scotty every mass produced. The feel is unlike anything today.
It broke my heart when you made it black
To each is own, I think the black is awesome. But I like Cam Smith’s Scotty a lot
Ever try copper plating on the Scotty's? It's pretty easy and looks awesome when done. Also, you can let the raw/smoothed head soak in "RUSTMORT" and it never needs anything else. Fill with One Shot Lettering Paint and you're done.
Never tried copper plating. Care to share any info on it? Sounds awesome. I usually use eezox for rust protectant and have not heard of rustmort before
I'm an architect golfer too! Very cool stuff, friend.
Glad there are a few of us out there!
I would love to know how you got that big chip out of the front. That's pretty amazing
Probably added material :)
Alot of the cameron putters they used machinist dye to paint fill if i remember right atleast the bright color dots all over.
Hi, love the vid. Could you explain the process next time, maybe talking over each step, or with text? Thanks
Really nice 👍🏽
Beautiful
I’m confused. The putter went from shiny right to black and being paint filled. So how did you turn it black?
Gun blue or black oxide.
Hi, great video showing the whole process. Can I ask what paint do you use?
Thanks!
Hey James. I use Testors enamel paint
The problem is,if you dont do powder coating ,the paint ends up coming out
Hey PutterDepot, great video, I'm learning a lot. Would you please tell me what 3 tips you used when refurbishing the cavity on the back of the putter please?
Hey there sorry for the late response. They were some cheap wire wheel bits I found on Amazon. This video is super old and I wouldn't recommend using wire wheels. Try to find some silicon carbide bits that fit the shape you need.
Fuck I hope mine comes up that good
Out of curiosity...have you experienced the best results on paintfill when you let it dry completely and then wipe the excess away?
Did you use anything to seal the black oxide finish and protect it from scratches?
Do you apply a clear coat or sealant over the paint to provide more durability/ protection? Also what type of paint do you use? Great video I look forward to your response, thanks!
Hey there! No clear coat but I always keep putters dry and oiled with gun/baby oil or gun wax.
There are anti rust coatings or rust inhibitors that you can use, you wont even know. I have used "cant rust" before and the can of rust inhibitor from like krylon or some brand and it works great.
What wheel on the bench grinder are using to get that nice smooth finish? Thanks in advance.
I use a 3m fine grit deburring wheel to blend and repair damage. Never use ceramic wheels or you'll tear up the metal. You can find the 3m wheels on Amazon for about $40/ea
@@theputterdepot is the wheel made of silicon carbide? this is what shows up when i search for a 3m fine deburring wheel www.amazon.com/Scotch-Brite-Non-Woven-Deburring-Silicon-Carbide/dp/B004VTQOII
Wow
Hi there. Awesome work. How many grams do you think it takes off after a rework like you did there?
Depending on the amount of damage that needs to be removed its pretty negligible. I've honestly never weighed one before/after!
@@theputterdepot I've done a lot of these myself and you'd never notice any weight difference. The paint fill weighs more than the metal that is sanded away.
@@fontking1a I actually weighed one recently and it lost about 1.5% of the original weight. That was on a pro platinum head that had the entire nickel plating layer removed too. Very miniscule amounts
Does it still put true without being re milled on the face
Nice video!! Question.. What’s the name of the bits that you used to sand down the cavities of the back?
Hey there sorry for the late response. They were some cheap wire wheel bits I found on Amazon. This video is super old and I wouldn't recommend using wire wheels. Try to find some silicon carbide bits that fit the shape you need.
What deburring wheel do you use
HI, what is the black wheel you are using on your grinder? That is the one thing I have been unable to find at any of the local hardware stores, and I would much rather use that than glass blast with my blasting box or drop into my tumbler. Ive seen everything from wire mesh, to a denim looking wheel, then to all the polishing wheels that aren't abrasive enough. Im not asking for any trade secrets, just the name of that black wheel so I can finally put my mind at rest. Beautiful restore buy the way!! Thanks for any help.
Thanks! I use a 3M fine grit deburring wheel. They are a little bit pricey but last forever. They are really more of a blending wheel than a grinding wheel and work great on carbon/stainless steel
What kind of buffer/grinder is that you used?
What was the first solution you soaked in?
hey man any chance i could have you do a custom on my odyssey putter?
Do you strip and buff iron heads? I have a set of Mizuno MP-33s 3-PW I have been thinking about stripping.
I don't have the ability to strip chrome so I've never really tried. I've an old set of 690mbs I've been considering taking to an autobody shop and having them de-chromed but I've never gotten around to it.
How did you resurface the face?
What was that tool used inside the cavity? I’ve seen Scotty himself use the same technique
I have a bunch of small abrasive tools, similar to what you would use on a dremel.
The PutterDepot did you use the paste or liquid for bluing? The end result was nice and dark! Nice work, I have a page on Instagram called backroomputters
How's the feel when putting after the refinishing...
Carbon steel is softer than nickel plating, so for this one specifically it had a much softer feel without the "clicky" feeling pro platinum putters generally have.
How do you fix the major dents?
It looks like the milled face should have been redone
What’s your paint fill method? How did it fill inside the lettering easily like that
I use Testors paint applied with a toothpick then wiped clean with acetone and a paper towel
What kind of paint can use on it?
great job where are you based?
Thanks Mark, I'm in Dallas. instagram.com/theputterdepot
Nice Job.
How much do you charge if I send you my putt?
Hey Carlos! Check out instagram.com/theputterdepot/ for some of my newer work. You can shoot me an email at theputterdepot@gmail.com to talk about your project
What chemical did you use to strip platinum off of putter?
MetalX B9 Nickel Stripper
What exactly is the solution in the crock pot and how hot does the crock pot need to be?
It's called MetalX B-9 Nickel stripper. I would read the manufacturers recommendations but I believe it's roughly 100* but I could be wrong.
The PutterDepot where can you find it?
@@mattanderson604 MetalX's website, eBay, etc
The PutterDepot is a 2.5 lb bag enough for one putter?
@@mattanderson604 I'd have to look at the instructions again. Should be enough for like 10+ putters
What is this putter worth??
Does it lose weight after doing that?
It does. The nickel plating has a small amount of weight loss and then depending on how much damage you need to sand/grind out there is weight loss associated with that too.
What do you use in the crock pot to remove the Pro Platinum finish?
MetalX B9 Nickel Stripper
Did you not strip the nickel on the second putter? And the Casey’s still worked?
What kind of steel is this putter?
Nickel plated carbon steel
The PutterDepot thanks for the reply, can you super blue a stainless steel putter if not can you just sand it down and then do it?
@@jp_arrazola Stainless putters are stainless through out the entire body. You'll need something different for stainless like Caswells Stainless Blackener
The PutterDepot oh okay thanks!
i wish i can send mine to you.... too far...
