Just curious… what type of working videos do you prefer as a viewer? The old style of super edits with cinematic handheld cameras and voiceover, or a 12 camera multi cam setup like this and just being able to watch Dusty and crew work in real time?

    • @darceyschultz2370

@@darceyschultz2370surprisingly, they both take about the same amount of time to edit. A lot more footage just gets cut out of the older style ones with only the highlights, and you get more close ups as a viewer

Peaches is not an outcast. You may be thinking of Eleanor - sad, but in a hierarchy someone will always be at the bottom. Peaches is upwards in the hierarchy, perhaps not top cow. But your sentiments are spot on.

I have a few questions. Do you raise the bison to kill them for meat, etc?
Why are the babies called "red dogs?"
Tell me about the placement of their eyes. Never saw an animal with eyes placed so far to the side of their heads.
How did you discover the love of bison ranching? (Every video I watch, I have more questions, now can't think of them.)
And I have a Chihuahua named Joey. We call him Joe, Joseph, Joey, and usually refer to him as "tiny Joe", but, he is a chunk. His head is tiny, his body, not so much. So after watching your channel, we now call him "Big Joe." Because I'm so in love with your "Big Joe"

    • @MrPossumeyes
      @MrPossumeyes 10 месяцев назад +2

@@karincampbell9289 Hi Karin, Dusty has breeding up his herd to raise numbers (I think he's reached max now for his property) and boost herd genetics. Some young bulls go as yearlings (?) to breeders or for fattening for meat. The heifers have been kept for breeding, up till now - could change in future. And "red dog" is a colloquialism used by bison ranchers because of the colour of those calves and the ranchers love for them. As for eye placement, I have no explanation other than evolution decided a wide field of vision is handy when it comes time to spot things like wolves.
Keep asking questions, Karin. Someone helpful will come back to you, most times.

Dusty I have watched a lot of your working videos and just a suggestion, I would create your fencing system up to the actual squeeze shoot / area where you put them in and give them their shots etc. I would create individual slots so you can push them into the final squeeze shoot easier. So have about 10 slots where you can hold 10 individual bison and that way as each door is opened they move into the next slot and this way you're not trying to get them turned around and they are not doing circles and trying to back out etc. Once they are in your system of 10 or more individual slots it is just a matter of opening and closing gates and moving them through the system.

I have no experience with working bison, but this round of working them looked more disorganized than previous ones. Maybe working the herds at different times, which would mean, fewer bison at each working, twice the number of workings and therefore more experience for those doing the work, might make it worth the effort??? Yes. Hence the suggestion that fewer bison be worked at one time, at least until they acquire what is a rather expensive piece of hydraulic machinery like Doc’s. Once they have that hydraulic squeeze chute and scale unit, the working can be started at their leisure with far less stress. It’s a big cash outlay though for machinery that only gets used twice a year. (Financing available?) It’s been, and will continue to be, a process to get the ranch to the point where they’re satisfied and comfortable.

I have never seen Dusty sedate any of his Bison, but there was one injured Bison they rescued. .A vet knocked it out so it could be transported and treated . I recall they named him “Lumpy” he had a big hernia on his side from being gored.somewhere in the wild. Lumpy had made his way to a farm and was hanging out with the cattle. Quite a story.

The pusher on skidsteer really made a difference in handling the bison. They didn't seem to get as upset as they normally do.

Folks that make comments that are negative most likely don't have a ranch or bison. Or have the an awesome Vet to help work with them
This summer I got to helo a friend with his bison herd. Like you had to rent tge squeze shut. It arrived late. We had to stop working due to the sundown. His herd is 60 strong.
You do a great job with your herd, you do it safe, we too used horses to herd, keep tge herd moving into tge shuts, My horses are excellent ranxh horses so why I qas asked to help
Only thing my horse waa a a littke shakey when the bull wanted to face off ! But we got him turned! INKSPOTS is an Appaloosa stud he did great and got an extra helpibg of AlfalfA hay.
Every rime I watch your channel I learn more about the bison. Thank you, and a Blessed Christmas to you, your family and all tge Pondarosa ranch folks💝☃️⛄️

Awesome nighttime video. Was it just me or did the critters seem more calm once it got dark?

Dusty, great video. I love watching you work the bison. You show what a love for an animal can accomplish. Thank you so much for bringing us along. This will be the closest I ever come to bison. I love the animal always have since I was a young girl.

I can really see how difficult it is keeping everything straight and together, but you all seem to work so well together and get the job done and done safely for everyone and the bison. Each time you work the bison you figure out what you need to make the process better, I love how the horse and rider helps. That pusher is a real blessing! Getting a squeeze shoot for your business would be ideal. Well I hope you, your family and friends have a very safe and Merry Christmas!

Might have to invest in field lights, sure would help with the animals with vaccinations, etc, I love that you guys are trying to bring back the bison in good health

WOW! Awesome job to everyone! The bison look amazing! So glad you are able to get most of them worked. Hopefully the last females don't have any issues. So glad no one including the bison, got hurt or injured when it got so dark.
Great job and awesome video! God bless.😊

My sons name is hoksila tatanka which means buffalo boy, he is a decendant of sitting bull from standing rock,i started watching because of my interest in Buffalo 🦬. I enjoy watching the care you put into your animals and the respect you have for the history of them and your willingness to grow and learn. Thank you

Probably a silly question but do all the little ones get wormed too or do they have to weigh a certain amount?

Good working session….I think you got some growing pains this year. At least we didn’t see the rowdy bison run everywhere and folks screaming and running for their lives. I know, next time, it will be improved.
I’m a list person. List of tasks tools & equipment needed. Then, I assign person to a list. Not sure if if would help, but it makes you plan and think through each step.
One question, do bison get cranky or moody day after workings ?
