I had to stop it after your first tip to leave this -- I had a lesson with a pro, I cut 1 inch off my driver at his direction and since then I have been almost consistently hitting the fairway with my driver.
I bought the TM "Mini-Driver" in 2019. The Original One has made such a positive difference in hitting those fairways on tight par-4's. I have TM Sim2 as my driver and a TM 4-hybrid as the club below. Pretty good gapping since I use the O. O. as a strong 3-wood too.
My P790 2 iron is my go to club off the tee if my driver isn’t working. Depending on hole length I use the 2 iron as well if I get then leave an 8 iron or so into the green. Some par 5’s I may hit 2 x 2 irons and then a wedge in if I require being straight.
Golf sidekick has a good way of breaking 90, involves adding 1 shot to each hole on the score card and playing the holes at their revised “par”. Then clubs he suggests taking a 175yd , 150yd , pw sw & putter . Will need to try his way next time I play
Great video and a reminder (that I often need) that there are better ways to manage the course than going for distance off the first shot. I sometimes leave the driver at home and play better. Thanks.
Good stuff Alex. I broke into the 90s last couple months of last season after getting freshly fitted for new 7 - PW and 48* wedge, and leaving my driver in my locker, using 4 wood off the tee. Breaking 90 is the goal for next season. Going to try shortening the driver to see if I can make it more reliable, otherwise it'll just stay at home next year. I'm not a long hitter, so there are several holes on my course where GIR is very unlikely so adding 1 to both GIR and par is pretty standard thought process for me. All the best for the holiday and the new year. Cheers.
Good stuff, apart from the 3 wood vs driver debate. Data has shown that hitting driver is the best strategy as most average golfers are barely more accurate with a 3 wood than they are with their driver. Off the tee hitting a different club, an iron or hybrid is probably a better alternative than the driver.
Love course management vlogs. Im currently back playing golf after 12 years off and trying to consistently trying to break 100. On a tricky Par 5 yesterday, with lots of water in play , where id usual try driver or 3 wood and end up wet, i went 9i, and two 7s and just got on the fringe, 2 putted, and i normally get some big numbers on this hole. Too much ego in golf, you need to use your head before pulling the big stick. Merry Christmas.
2 Hybrid does it all. I have 2 Sunday bags Callaway Epic Max Star 6 iron, approach Wedge Callaway Epic Super 2Hybrid Taylormade P790…… 6 iron and approach wedge. Sim 2 Max rescue Hybrid And putters of course, but that’s all the clubs you really ever need.
Good stuff Alex. Just broke into the 90s the last couple months of last season, after getting fresh fitted 7 - PW and 48*, and leaving my driver in my locker in favour of 4 wood odd the tee, so 90 is the new goal for next year. I don't hit it long, so adding 1 to GIR and par is standard procedure for me. Going to try shortening the driver to see if I can make it reliable, otherwise it'll stay at home. All the best for the holiday and the new year. Cheers.
Great tip Alex will try to leave the driver in the bag a bit more because I do lose a few shots with it cheers mate merry Christmas from us in Australia 🇦🇺 👍
My three wood is a cut down Titleist 975d 10.5 driver. I don't miss a long handle at all, can hit power fades all day -- not swinging super fast, but trying to stay smooth and not muscling the shot.
@@AlexElliottGolf more control and confidence, I feel like I can give it a good swing without worrying that I'm going to hit it off the planet. Maybe my arms are pretty long so the shorter shaft works for me. If the shaft is longer I'm always compensating when it's cut down I can let it rip
Alex,, I sure wish I had you around a long long time ago, again I’m 64…lol But you explain the how and the why….to do this or that. Very wise advice from a young man like yourself. Thank you very much. Love your videos…👍
30 years ago an old lag told me to “use my shots”. The woods are full of big hitters. Thanks for fantastic tuition this year and have a great Xmas. See you in January, Omicron permitting…
Alex, great video. I think developing the mentality that there's such a thing as a "good " or "solid" bogey is a good thing. I've had way too many blowup holes by not embracing this idea. Thanks!
Hi Alex, another great tip. Thank you. If you’ve already done a video on breaking 80 then I’d love to see it, if not same thoughts and request to make one. 👍😎🇦🇺
Do you think the same with par 5s? If I cannot get home in two, I use 5 wood then maybe 6 and wedge. I think too many people lose easy pars on 5s by going driver automatically.
Hi Alex! Very good tips here for breaking 90. Can i ask you a question here about doing a tip or suggestions on shooting around par or even under par? I am not sure if this is a right place to ask this question and i have not seen or come across any teacher on youtube yet talk about this tip. Thanks in advance for any tips you can share. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family and to all your FCs Alex!
I would say practice under pressure as much as possible so when you are out on the golf course it’s easier to deal with the pressure of shooting low scores
@@AlexElliottGolf I will try to focus doing that for next season. I could do 1 or 2 under on one side and would mess up on the other side. It is hard because by the time i get to the back nine, i am more tired cos of carrying bag or push cart and then lost focus. I would love to see your future clip on how to go low here sometime. Thank you so much Alex!
Alex i have a 16 deg 2 hybrid as my 2nd longest club cleveland halo, its awesome from both tee and fairway, great content have subscribed. you colab with Marcus at Zen ?
some years ago (sigh) I played only using a 3 hybrid off the tee and parred 7 out of 9 holes (I do have to say my iron play back then was greatly better than it is now....they are costing me big time now)..
@@AlexElliottGolf Good question. If I went with, say, eight, I think I'd take sand wedge, gap or pitching edge, eight or nine iron, seven iron, six hybrid/iron. 24 degree hybrid and 3 wood and putter. It would definitely involve trial and error and It might vary course to course, but the point would be to better manage whatever course it is.
I’m subscribed to this channel but it’s always hard for me to get past the first minute. I. Feel like the creator tries to drag the video out as long as he can and I’m left frustrated it has taken so long for him to get to the click bait reason the video was created.
Well, I'm not sure about your guaranty for me to shoot under 90, because my driver never leaves my bag- I have ZERO trust in it. That said, I have always taken that first shot off the tee thinking about the next shot or two. I always tee off what will get me to a distance I think I can hit and laying up if I need to in order to get to the distance I feel good about. Course management has taken nearly 10 shots off my handicap. The one thing I need to consistently be in the 80s is to improve my putting; I just not good at seeing break and end up 2 or 3-putting way too many holes. It's crushing to hit a par 3 off the tee and walk off with a bogey...
@@AlexElliottGolf I have a Callaway ,it works pretty good for a fairway finder, I just purchased a 7 wood and I am looking at possibly picking up a 5 wood. It might be May or June before I will be able to put these tips into action. Golf courses here are closed for the winter and indoor golf facility are hard to book with COVID restrictions.
What do you think of the video? Do you think this will help you break 90? Either way let me know in the comments

Yes can tou do more break 100, 90 etc vlogs on course management please.
Really liked the video, currently my best round is at a 90 so hopefully this tips me over the edge haha

It’s an interesting system - I use the “break 100” version and it works. Takes a lot of pressure off and makes the golf more enjoyable
Thank you Simon!! I think that’s an interesting system
How true your words are- it’s all about not letting your ego ruin your game
That’s it!!! Exactly 🙌🏼🙌🏼

When driver isn't working, I use 3W or 4 iron. 4 iron is definitely the straightest but only goes 185 +/-, 175 winter

Very good ! don't even have a driver !
Maybe someday ? - now have less trips into the woods!
I don’t have anything bigger than a 5wood. Have a 1/2” shorter irons for control, am 5’9.
That’s perfect use that!!!
The best I've done is a 93.
I'm getting close to it now
