In this video I'm sharing the full process of making my first ever knit pattern book "Knit this!", which was a huge project, it took me almost a year to complete! I'm so proud of the final result, and in the process I learned so much about being a knitwear designer.
In this video share the background behind this project, what I learned about knitwear design and making patterns, while also sharing what I learned and what I would do differently if i'd do it all again :)

I was inspired by your videos to try knitting, not something I expected would happen being a 43 year old man. I have watched your learn to knit videos and I am sticking to practising the basics with aiming to knit a jumper within a year maybe

43? Try 64! That was how old I was when I learned to knit. I was about to be a first-time grandmother, I was retired, and I figured it was time to learn a craft. Baby sweaters? Why not? This was about the time when it seemed that so many young adults, male and female, were taking up knitting. It’s great to see knitting becoming so exciting for people of all ages and walks of life. I’ve enjoyed Kika’s delightful videos and can see why she inspired you to get started. I waited too long to try my first adult sweater, and it was silly of me. I could have done it in the first year. Go for it!

I love that knitting is for everyone, when I was 3 years old I saw a woman knitting something and I just was so amazed that I dreamed to be like her but noone on my family knitted, but last year finally I started knitting by learning here in youtube and one day if I have kids I'll knit for them too ❤

I'm so glad I bought it though, the patterns are gorgeous and I'm currently knitting the Stay Up Till Dawn sweater for my pregnant daughter, which is a lovely pattern and fairly easy to follow. I was just thinking about you as I’m on holiday and I’ve finished knitting a Christmas Stocking and thought that I couldn’t block it until I got back home. I then remembered you blocking your knitting whilst on holiday so I’ve just soaked it in hair conditioner and it’s lying in the sun drying. I can’t wait to read your new book, my children have bought it for me as a Christmas present.
I LOVE your design so I purchased your ebook! Definitely just as I expected :) I do find the projects are more for intermediate/advanced knitter though, as I still kinda struggle reading the pattern as a beginner. But can't wait to one day finish knitting all the design in the book! :)

I bought the e-book a while ago and I would love to have the actual book in my hands because it is as you said a tactile thing as well. I never was a e-book or kindle reader, with books I´m old school. BUT I saw that the book itself is now 32 €. I think in August it was € 24? The shipping costs to Austria are the same as before. I´m waiting...😗🎶 in the meantime I am enjoying the e-book. Love your photos and your designs. I will start to knit the first of the sweaters in your book soon. It won´t be my first sweater but my first Kika-Sweater 👕🧶💛and I am looking forward to it so much!

I enjoy being inspired and learning from your videos. My husband saw my joy and ordered your pattern book for my birthday. I was so very excited. However, I write this as a caution to others ordering. Even though he specified English print,I he received a pattern book written in Finnish. I enjoy challenges in knitting, but knitting in another language would be a real challenge. I hope he can get it exchanged as I was really excited to start the New year knitting the Honey cardigan. It is amazing how much I learned from the experience. Listening to you tell of your experiences as you prepared for publishing brought back so many memories for me also. I bought your book and immediately cast on the fisherman’s knit cardigan. I have spent many hours trying to duplicate your perfection ripping it back to the ribbing three times. Will you consider doing a video of how to pick up after ripping back? I don’t want to admit defeat, I absolutely love that sweater.

Thank you for making this book! I found your channel when you made your wedding dress and was so inspired to start knitting more! Then when you announced the book, I immediately asked for it for Christmas from my parents, and it arrived before my birthday in October so I was able to get it sooner! (this is the first knitting book I have ever had because I normally just make it up as I go, but I have loved the challenge!)
My goal this holiday was to make everything as gifts (or at least have the majority of my gifts be hand made) and I have been using this entire book! The lighthouse beanie was a hit! A few family members asked me to make that one for them specifically - and I even tried one where I used a synthetic crushed velvet for the inner beanie (Which was the best idea ever because it becomes more of a fluffy 'lined' hat, which will be great for our Canadian winters!
I don't normally comment on videos, but I had to say thank you so much for relighting my passion for knitting, and providing this amazing book! I can't wait to learn how to do a brioche stitch, and how to make lace!

It was also the time I was falling in love with my hobby knitting all over again and turned it into a passion (which might brought me to your channel because I was looking for knitting content to advance my knitting techniques). I always find your content inspiring and aesthetic, plus you're just so authentic that you really are my favorite content creator in the whole world. I'm actually working on a pattern myself atm but I'm so afraid of grading. I would love for you to tell us more about grading for different sizes while writing a pattern. I absolutely love your style of knitted pieces so I had to buy your book! I really wanted a physical copy because the photography is stunning and following a pattern is always easier for me on print. I've been following you since you were making videos mostly about photography some time back and it's so cool to see you grow and find success in this field now! You knitwear is beautiful and definitely deserves to be shared with the world. Also I really love your genuine vibe, your videos feel very authentic and are so relaxing to watch :)
I was more dialed into the quilting world until 2020, the fabric companies will only work with designers that already have created a large audience so they don’t have to do any marketing. Amy Butler might have been the first person to take off in this way as an indie designer. Her husband was a photographer and graphic designer so he designed the page layout for all her books. They did really well for themselves being at the right place at the right time when quilting was going through a huge revival. Deals, contracts and relationships are all made at annual trade shows that take place twice a year (it is really time consuming and costly and really takes a village, putting together a staging area at trade shows for your booth, handing out copies of your portfolio to companies, maintaining your audience through social media).

Hello there! I started knitting 1 year ago and discovered your Chanel a couple months ago. I live in France. I love your energy and the way you talk about knitting and your designs. I bought the pdf version of your book and I m currently working on my second lighthouse bennie! Hope to be able to cast on the maybe forever sweater soon. The pdf version is not as wonderfull as having a Real book in your hand but it s so usefull to be able to knit your designs if you can t afford the shipping cost! I hope to be able to have the Real version of your book soon so I can go through it by night in my bed with a cup of tea! Thank you also for showing the process of creating a design in a lot of your videos. As a young knitter I was desperate to undo my work when I did a mistake. By watching the number if Times you had to do all other again Parts of your own projects, it completly changed my point of view ! A long message to say thank you! :-)

It's a beautiful book. My partner bought it for me last month in E-Book Version. I did really want the physical version, but as you mentioned the shipping cost to the UK was double the cost of the book. I'm really pleased you managed to sort all that out. I may treat myself to the physical version at some point as well. I'm having a new circular needle set for Christmas and the yarn to make one of the jumpers from your book.
