Good afternoon Brock. I'm a little late today because we had to take our best boy "Rocky" to the vet this morning. He's fine and getting older but needs some meds just like his Dad. What I wanted to say was that you may be on to something. I'm sure that you won't have any trouble moving it around and it cost you some screws and your time. I also wanted to say that up here in the mountains of North Central Pennsylvania a lot of people are using the slab wood as siding on cabins or hunting camps. It's very cost effective, great insulation, and if done nicely looks really nice. So maybe there's a market in your area for that use also and not just for firewood. Anyway, just sticking my 2 cents in. God bless and have another wonderful day. 🙂👍👍
Howdy Brock! Looks good to me and was a great use of scrap wood. The Amish near here are wise to the value of slab wood... they sell it for dang near as much as they get for good quality cut firewood. Will be fun to see how well it works for ya. Thanks for sharing 🤠
I use a strap a few inches away from where I'll make each cut. That way the bundle of slabs stay together and I can move them out of the rack easily. When they get to where they're going, I loosen the strap and they fall out. It takes an extra minute or two to get set up for the cuts but in the end it feels worthwhile for me.
I have a cut table I've made on a pallet so I can move it around with my fork lift, I cut into 16" fireplace wood! I have 6 full months of winter out here. Great video buddy, come visit me if you ever get out to UT love your videos & your channel 💪👍👍👍
Love the idea my buddy and I did something very similar but it’s huge lol we joke round sayin it’s the largest slab wood buck table lol. I’m fairly new to ur channel I seen u on hometown acre’s channel while back n I can’t wait for the live with Neil I’m a big fan of his love the content and the hard work he puts in for his videos the dedication he has and his family being i big part of it. Love what videos I have watched of hrs and as time permits I go back k n watch older ones as well as the new ones u post God bless Brock
Nice slab rack. When i was making maple syrup befor i sold my evaporator i was buying slab bundles from my neighbor and had him toss on 2 more straps on the bundle to help me when cut up the bundle of slab work awesome but the downside was u had bend over which is no fun with rods and plates holding your spin together 😅
May work better than others but going to be heavy to move around. I built one a few weeks ago and it’s pretty easy to move. Interested to see it in action hope it works well for you.
The Marc Galicic youtube sawmill channel has a gas powered buzz saw right at the end of his outfeed. Of course he has a guy the runs it and cuts the slab wood as it comes right off the mill. The slab wood gets stacked into the bucket of their loader.
Hey Brock, not sure if you thought about it but your bar still may be a bit short with your 25” opening plus the thickness of your rack board…. Looks good anyways
The mitre saw is struggling because the teeth on the blades are designed to cut dry wood, not wet/green. They make bandsaw blades specifically for green wood, but I don’t know about mitre saws.
I built one, but it’s made square U-shaped to hold a lot more slabs works great. If you’re interested, I’ll send you some pictures and dimensions. Let me know.
looks a lot like the one I made for bucking small logs, I love it, I also added a block in the bottom of each "V" so you are less likely to cut into the braces with the saw at the end of your cut ruclips.net/video/6Iim4zPfszU/видео.html

My Dad had a buzz saw on the front of his old Allis and he cut slabs into firewood.
I like the concept but I'm not sure if I would use the same structure. Want to see it in action.
Good job Brock. !

I have something similar for bucking up limb wood for firewood. Should work great for you! Thanks for sharing.
Interesting design Brock, I'm interested to see how well it works. -Mark 🌴

Have a slab rack but I made it as big as I could and bought a longer bar just for it.

Need a Whirlwind up cut saw. Can find the cheap used.

It seems like such a waste not doing something with the slab wood. That rack should work!
