Mark Hamill explains perfectly why this is the greatest Star Wars movie ever made, one of the greatest sci fi movies ever made. They cared about it, they took it seriously, it was deep and they executed it PERFECTLY.

@@gabedangelo8321 The time-jump between ANH and this movie is never made clear, Alec Guinness phones in his whole performance, Chewbacca straight breaks part of the set when checking on Threepio and they left it in the movie, Billy Dee messes up a line and realises mid-read, Threepio gives unnecessary exposition on Carbonite freezing even though it was explained less than a minute earlier, the big action set-piece that you can see Mark train for here is shot awkwardly and in a way that obscures any meaningful choreography and Vader's prop helmet almost falls off in the big reveal scene. Most of these are really nitpicks but they still prevent the execution from being perfect.

Pardon my intrusion to your conversation,I only wished to say that the reasons mentioned are most excellently delivered and must concur although it is one of my favorites in the series for sure. Only reason I say it's not#1 is because ANH will always have that special place in my heart. Simple because that was how I was introduced. Depends on my mood, between first spot ha ha

      (6) The phantom menace

Yes, much like how the Tattooine scenes in ANH were shot first. But just like in ANH, where the crew suffered the worst rainfall in about 50 years, the Hoth scenes in Empire were made more difficult by the largest blizzard the location had in decades.

“This is Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. I regret to report that both our Jedi Order and the Republic have fallen, with the dark shadow of the Empire rising to take their place. This message is a warning and a reminder for any surviving Jedi: trust in the Force. Do not return to the Temple. That time has passed, and our future is uncertain. Avoid Coruscant. Avoid detection. Be secret... but be strong. We will each be challenged: our trust, our faith, our friendships. But we must persevere and, in time, I believe a new hope will emerge. May the Force be with you always.”

@@RandomGuy285 nope. He clearly stated in many interviews that he didn't care about fan perception and that he made the movies for him to enjoy.
also did you forget how he "left" SW after RotJ, even though the OT was generally liked? He went back to do the prequels because it was either that or something else which I can't remember right now.
moreover, did you forget that he created a plot outline for sequels? If he "abandoned" SW because fans didn't like his movies, do you really expect him to come back for sequels?
