I've been using it for a few weeks and it's pretty good. I didn't have any expectations going into it which was a good way to approach it. I've been using T-Racks for a while now so to have this Waves IDX as another option is just great.
The one pro i find with the IDX is the fact that it does a decent job in cleaning up a muddy or resonant sounding track a little better than a traditional compressor would. It does work more as a tone shaper using a compression kinda approach.
Banger of a review. Cool shades 😎. I got this free! But it’s just a spectral compressor not unlike the Baby Audio Smooth Operator. I’m glad you guys are critical and not shills for everything new under the sun. Here’s to more ‘Is it 💩’ in ‘25.
I used it on some keys/synths and helped me bring them out nicely. Think it works pretty well but I’m not a compression expert so I’m probably target audience. Seemed to smooth out the rough edges whilst getting the sound sit well in the rest of the mix quickly
I am quite impressed with the IDX. I don’t care for it on individual tracks but it’s quite helpful on my master, it really cleans it up nicely. I don’t find it needs too much fussing with. For the record. I’m not great at mixing and mastering. It’s def improved everything I put it on.
I thought it was going to suck but found it worked pretty well but mostly with the mix at 75% or so. Also I kind of suspect the "ai" is just matching it to a pink noise profile but who knows.
Watching this and bang in the middle get interrupted by a commercial, from Waves, about the IDX, with producers saying it's amazing and get you 90 % there just by inserting 😂
How does the plugin know what to compress when there's no context for the track? Processing in solo isn't a great idea and I wish it had a smart side chain that could listen to the rest of the elements to fit the processed track in as a priority.
It's great for evening out bass guitars before using normal compression. Just let it tuck in notes that are a bit to prominent. Nothing is a gamechanger except putting in the time and getting better at mixing.
Waves is moving to a new look for their plugins. They recently did a makeover for 3 other plugins that look similar to the IDX.

Does it detect things once and stays static or does it change during the playback? For instance, placed on a kick and a huge double kick part comes in, will it detect it then go back to previous setting?
With Waves, it really doesn't matter to me if it's the most amazing plugin on the planet, I just don't want to get involved... I only watched the video because I enjoy watching Mr Vincent make the Northamptoner look like a Northamptoner.... I used to work at Brackmills, so I know the truth.
The advert for the IDX advert was good for knowing who not to get your mix done by... Oh you use a AI plugin to mix for you, why would you announce that publicly? I'll go to one that doesn't need AI to do it for them thank you lol
Bob had the original idea and some scraps of lyrics, Midge did the rest… so song credits would probably be 80/20 in Midge’s favour (and I’m being generous to Bob!)
Yikes.... It's s***.... Just go with sonible if you want something like this... I don't really trust waves To do important stuff like make it sound really good or avoid aliasing.....etc... And if you have to mess with the controls.... Then.... Yuck. I can see this being popular with people who can't really hear compression. But have they tried sonible?

I came for the review. I stayed for the hats! You guys are great and, as always, the info is solid. Thanks!

Fav moment @ 6:59 Sean says "Big knob in the middle", Dan smirks.
If does a fun frequency sculpting thing. I like to use it lightly at the beginning of dry, boxy, frumpy sounds.
It was for free some time ago :)
Review starts at 5:53. Merry Christmas!
To paraphrase - the review starts and the laughs stop at 5:53 - enjoy 🤣
Your the 🐐

I got it for free a week or so ago and its a nice starting point or just to have on the mix bus while tracking.

It's always analysing...👍
This is what makes me say ou ou ou

I think it's worth every penny I paid for it.
I got it for free from Waves. It's not bad .........but $79? No. $29? Eh.....maybe.
So it has Butt On for hard and smooth compresion?
Bob had the original idea and some scraps of lyrics, Midge did the rest… so song credits would probably be 80/20 in Midge’s favour (and I’m being generous to Bob!)
PS Midge is looooong overdue a knighthood!
just waiting for Dan to start hiccupping!
Phil Collins drums didn't sound awful!
How anyone who knows anything would come here just for the reviews is missing the point (completely).
Learn how to use a compressor please. Lol.

I have and it's a cpu hog plus introduces latency. IDX one works well for live performance. I make live muaic and found Sonible unusable
