@@victormusic01x yes, truly memorable....the first thing he did after greeting was the I ching,,,,,,,,,,,before even touching our instruments. That profound Victor.....I studied with Vic Juris, another genius and stellar person who introduced me to Pat, (whom I knew through various recordings already, and had already learned his solos...)

I met Pat in San Francisco
    At the Fairmont hotel.
I introduced my self and we spoke for what seemed like forever. He gave his phone number and I would call him
And we would talk, Pat had
A lot to say.and he was gracious and was always nice to me when ever I called. I spent the weekend with him in south Philadelphia. To this day it amazes me how receptive and open to me as a person.
I never met anyone like that before or since. Especially
    Because of his greatness.

what a brilliant man, in addition to an incredible guitarist..." music is not a craft.."its a condition" jazz is not a type of music, its improvisation" ..wow

    Pat Martino’s “Symmetrical Parental Forms”:
    1) Play 554 on GBE. That is an Augmented triad named for any one of those C-E-G# notes.
LOWER any one of those notes and you’ll “parent” 3 different MAJOR triads; RAISE any one of those notes and you’ll “parent” 3 different MINOR triads.
    - So one easy-to-grab AUGMENTED triad “parents” 6 other triads.
    2) Now play 4545 on DGBE. That’s a Diminished 7th chord named for F#-C-D#-A root notes (or Gb and Eb enharmonic equivalents).
LOWER any one of those notes and you’ll “parent” 4 different Dominant 7 chords; RAISE any one of those notes and you’ll “parent” 4 different Half-Diminished 7th chords (aka Minor 7b5 chords).
    - So that one easy-to-grab Diminished 7th chord “parents” 8 other 7th chords.
    3) That is what Pat Martino noticed about the guitar. Just like a C Major scale, an A Natural Minor scale, and an Eb Minor Pentatonic scale are “natural” on the piano, so too are the Augmented triad and the Diminished 7th chord “natural” on the guitar.
    - The way the guitar is tuned makes those two chord structures “SYMMETRICAL PARENTAL FORMS”.
This is something that every guitarist needs to understand just like CAGED is. It’s just the way that the guitar “works”.
    - RIP Pat Martino. Thanks for this lesson!-

He's absolutely right. Craft is following a set of pre-determined and thought-out procedures to achieve a product. Street craftsmen who make those palm frond roses, or kids who make a macaroni image based on what their teacher says, or a skilled seamstress. All of those are craftspeople. An artist creates, and that's what improvisation is; spontaneous creation. All the practice and preparation the jazz musician goes through is so that eventually, he will be able to express more freely and accurately what is in their mind during improvisations. To better communicate their thoughts through music.
