12-year-old Molly Blyndeff finds herself trapped overnight in the Sweet Jazz City Museum. Now she’s trying to break out on the same night that a group of thieves have decided to break in.

In the world of Sweet Jazz City a lucky few are born with powers attached to their very souls known as "Epithets". An Epithet stems from a single word that can grant its user any kind of power. Words like "Fire", "Coupon"... or "Soup". A magical artifact known as the "Arsene Amulet" is rumored to be able to steal an epithet from a person, and they say it’s hidden somewhere in the Sweet Jazz Museum... Thieves burst down the doors in the middle of the night! Inscribed warriors do battle in the dark of the abandoned exhibits! Dinosaur bones come toppling to the floor! And a little girl named Molly is trapped in the middle of it all. Will her epithet, "Dumb" be enough to save her? Or will her epithet be... erased?

Oh, other people can definitely hear the action descriptions.
For instance: Molly calls Sylvie by name before he introduces himself in episode 3. She didn't just see his character card- his card says Sylvester. She heard his action description of [Sylvie's sleeping form begins to stir].
Also, the whole "real-ass goddamn sword" bit. That stemmed from Percy's action description that everyone in the room heard.
Molly’s epithet is “Dumb”, right? Apparently she can dumb down anything she wishes on command. That means she can nullify anything and everything. Molly is a legit god.
What if, here me out. She dumbs down her own epithet. Would it be more powerful or worse, but the it is "dumb." Did I just create a paradox? Oh no its the dumb juice

It only works in a small area around her, it looks like.
It only does it to those who are within a certain distance of her, but otherwise i agree. her epithet is actually very useful. she can dull the pain of injured people. she can dumb down murderers, serial killers, and hostage takers.
if i remember correctly, she can also trick people she's dumbed down? she could use her epithet on michael myers or something and ask him to hand over his gun. she is getting kicked out of the "useless" epithet club.

Unrelated, Epithets are such a cool power system, even if they have things like Soup and Dumb.
Honestly there's so many great epithets from anime campaign that may be brought to Epithet Erased. Personally loved Friendship by Rick Shades which treated him as making a friend as a dark pact with them that grew his power.
I find epithets interesting but I wouldn’t really say it’s my favorite for my own personal gripes

*I've noticed two things about Molly's Dad*
1. Saying no to him might be the easiest thing in the world. When Molly does confront him, he'd probably laugh it off at first, but he realizes that she's serious, he'd act like a 7 year old, making up excuses, complaining, etc. But when Molly tells him "no means no dad" he wouldn't even put up a fight, he'd just be like "*sigh*. . . okay" and start working. Pretty much Molly becoming the parent in this situation
2. Judging by his behavior, he'd probably never had a childhood growing up. So he's trying make up for it in adulthood, but the only problem is that has kids, and when you said kids, you need to grow up.

It's sad that the one time this family was ever cohesive (Calliope and Martin together) will never be again.

So if her power is literally to "dumb down" anything, including pain, then her power is basically to decrease anything. That's some Gold Experience Requiem level of busted.
Keep in mind her power to dumb down objects is limited by size. Also, the level of proficiency represents the inate strength of her epithet. But i do agree it could be powerful
Literally anyone's power can be be extended to be stupidly (ha) strong. Take Soup for instance. What is the ocean but a very large bowl of cold soup? Need to create life? Sounds like primordial soup to me. Control blood? In addition to being able to argue that blood is a form of soup it is also the key ingredient for many soups in Eastern Europe and Asia. Need to buy pants? Well you're out of luck on that one. But normally we are truly surrounded by a vast array of soups.

One thing I just realized on a rewatch: Mera doesn't actually ask _what_ Molly's epithet is when on the tour, just what it _does,_ thus she's not actually breaching social conduct like I had previously thought.
What do you mean by "breaching social conduct"?
@ScaramoucheValley In the Epithet Erased world, it's considered really, *really* rude to ask what someone's Epithet is. It'd be like asking someone to tell you the deepest most important parts of their soul, which is understandably considered quite invasive!
So the general aspect of social conduct I'm referring to is not asking people what their epithets are, and if Mera had asked Molly what her epithet was, she would have breached that aspect.
Does that make sense? (/gen) if not I can try to explain better :(

you know I just realized that Giovanni almost actually destroyed Mira at like 23:00 cause she's fragile and he was about to deck her with a baseball bat and knife. If Molly hadn't interfered then Giovanni woulda have killed or grievously injured her, and this would have been an entirely different story.

It’s a stylistic choice. It’s supposed invoke something like DnD. Which is why the character’s narrate themselves and we can see their stats and levels.

I just realized! At 8:23, when she bumps into Sylvie, some sleeping dust gets onto Molly! That's why she falls asleep the rest of the day! I thought it was because she was overworked, but she literally gets weak at the legs because Sylvie unintentionally affected her with his epithet! I came to rewatch for the humor, but the little details and hints at people's epithets make me smile too.

I am honestly so unironically mad youtube removed the thing to contribute to make subtitles. A show like this deserves all the reach it can get, and getting subtitles in different languages could be such a good way to get more people into it. But oh, well.

I like how this is like a really dumb roleplay instead of an actual cartoon
And I love it
This is such a fun series. I love the animation style, simple but gets a lot across. The table top grid scenes and the way characters narrate their actions make me wanna get out the dice and play some D&D. :P And the music is great, love the opening and closing themes! The voice actors do an excellent job as well! Well done all! I hope you get to make another season!
They just announced a kickstarter for the continuation of the series! They dont have the funds to do a fully animated season 2 but they are making a book! With all of the voice actors from the show playing their character! You should check it out.

That's 100% my favorite quote from this episode it's great
I'm rerunning this for like the 3rd or 4th time and my good is it still good, the jokes while pretty dry are pulled off relatively good, the characters and there relationships with each other are unique and give more lore to one another, I'm also liking how there isn't one main character but a whole cast and you see what some of the other characters do after the museum arc giving each character way more importance and also making a story that's not about one character and the world revolving around them BUT in a sense having a whole cast be in a world interacting with it and each other, while also giving every one of them the same goal which is the arsenal Amulet. And I really love the plot just being these random weirdo's with power's chasing this one necklace and giving them each a good for doing it, and in a sense the making the show about the necklace and the people who want it but I explained that more with my previous statement.
This reminds me so much of a dnd session. The overhead view being like the board, the way the characters have to describe what they are doing, and the damage stats.
