Here's an example (somewhat) of what they were talking about on the video about bringing more peace to your life, besides just the peace that comes from knowing you've cleared clutter. One time I had a wall in my bedroom lined up with boxes and all sorts of other stuff (don't even remember what all of it was). One day I decided to get in there and clear all that clutter out. I had old homeschool books for one thing that I took to a used book store and they gave me money for them. There was a lot of other stuff also lining that wall that I removed. Well, later on I had to go into the bedroom for some reason, and I kid you not, but a strong sense of peace literally hit me when I walked through the door into the room! That was the first time I fully realized what people mean when they say that clearing clutter will bring a sense of peace. It sure did for that room!
"Shoot the rest of the day and kill it." Love your expressions and others on this show. Scramblilized. Refers to my brain but working on it along with my clutter. Thank you both.
Viewing in October 2024. Lost my dear hubs a year ago. I am grateful for my little home, very clean, organized, and minimal. It helps in keeping up the home atmosphere. I am not up for the coming holiday season, but pushing myself a bit, so others will be cheered. I decluttered most of my closet , since I have shrunk a few sizes. I purchased a comfortable capsule wardrobe and replaced my three pairs of shoes. It feels good to get dressed each morning. I go to the gym three times a week, since imperative to maintain health.
A lot of self-care is annoying. Just think of exercise. I think part of my problem has been feeling like I don't deserve to take time for self-care. But prioritizing self-care has been one of the best things I've ever done. Thanks for pointing out how much decluttering is part of good self-care!
I actually do Empties videos on my RUclips channel each week as part of a self reflection on how much I'm using and how much I really need... It has really helped me look back at myself and my consumer choices. Also I rearranged my entire bedroom and my sons bedroom today. It looks great! All cleaned too!
Oh, Gayle. I needed this show. For years now, every time I think I am making headway to catch up, some new problem surfaces. Now I am really stuck because three weeks ago I tore my groin muscles and can't walk without severe pain. I was thinking I need to give up and admit defeat, but what you said about my needing to take care of myself, may be the underlying problem I need to fix first. I am 71 and don't know how much time I have to correct this cluttered mess. I like your positive statement.
Sometimes just find a place to sit. Don't get overwhelmed by the "bigness" of the chore, instead focus on what is within reach that you don't Over reach and teeter over!! Get a bag for trash by your chair/ bed or couch, and another box/ bag for give aways, another for recycling. Do one little area at a time!! One side table/ a bed/ one drawer/ one counter- or divide a long counter into two spaces using a book or ruler or whatnot!! Hope you have recovered!! Been listening to Clutter Fairy's channel for a couple of years now!🤗💖🫖☕
I think “My future self will thank me” supports my self care when I’m thinking of not bothering folding the towels, cleaning the kitchen, decluttering the junk drawer etc.
I personally have February 28th as my deadline for filing my taxes. The sooner you file, the sooner you get your refund - or on the other side of the coin, know if you have to pay and can make plans for that. Yes, my refund is already in my bank - YEA! Having my taxes taken care of then results in major peace of my mind = self-care.
I love paper boxes as weed barrier, so long as you take off any plastic tape. 2 or 3 layers of pain cardboard plus wood chips seems to be the only thing that can snuff out the Himalayan blackberry around here.
When you have an empty box, you can go around the house looking for items that can be donated. Then, once it’s full, take it to the donation site. Gets rid of a box and however much will fit in it. Win/win!
One thing I think may be totally underestimated is how much easier maintenance can become in a decluttered home. And noticing while decluttering how much work things are.
Suggestion about cardboard boxes if they need breaking down, (30 to 35 minutes into this episode.) It was mentioned by a listener … cannot put boxes inside each other, to put them out for the trashmen to pick up. They need to be broken down flat. I’ve suffered some weakness due to ill health so the method of using a Stanley knife (carpet cutter knife) or heavy duty scissors Personally aches my hands wrists and arms for several boxes I found my solution was to make them a bit wet in the shower They rip up nice and easy when they’re damp /wet (or take them in the garden and spray them with the hose to then rip them.) then I have a pile of flat cardboard (in the UK we have wheelie bins to put our flattened cardboard in (I go the extra step of drying mine out, before bundling them next to the wheelie bin, or if enough space putting them in it. … I think some areas may be allowed to leave larger pieces of cardboard together tied with string for easy pick up next to the bins ( but check locally what the necessary procedure is in the UK and elsewhere)
I’m not sure if the Facebook “box dibs” group is only the Chicago area but may be worth checking out. I’ve also seen people request boxes in FB marketplace fairly regularly. Sometimes it’s someone who needs small boxes for their online business, others ask for moving-size boxes. Just arrange a time privately and leave them outside at that time for no contact and for safety.
Great episode. Also with the phone charging problem you might just need a new phone battery for $65. That usually gives me another year of life on my phone. My iPhone is three or four years old I already replaced the battery a year ago and now it’s not holding a charge again and I’m going to go get another new battery
Gayle missed an entire group of people for the tittle: Americans whose taxes are done. Mine were finished last week and I'm waiting for refunds. Could do the international assignment but since I spent this morning pulling together papers for *2023* taxes, think I'll pass.

Annette's "digging out of my past so I can see my future." That's my favorite!!!
Another great program, Gayle and Ed. The violet/purple background was so restful looking and coordinated beautifully with Gayle’s blouse. 💜
Receive the blessing of what you have already done. Love that. Yes. I'm claiming that. thank you.
@@jomoney465 glad you got a thought to keep as yours!

Thank you for another great episode! You both are so helpful! It is eye opening to me to realize how much psychology is involved in decluttering.
You have changed my life🥰motivated me to a better way of living ¥ Big Thank You🙏

I am post op and since I have to rest I am viewing this Oct 3. 22. I feel cared for by my simple little home.

That's EXACTLY why I decluttered so my family don't have to do it when I've gone!

I like to think of my efforts as giving a gift to future me.
Anything worth doing is worth doing halfway or poorly. (Overcome the idea of perfection.)
That's a good point. Better to do some thing than no thing!!

You can also tear them up and add them to a compost pile and let the worms, etc turn them into compost for your garden.
@@tennesseenana4838 true. Just have to get it very wet and warm, otherwise the cellulose will takes ages to decompose.
Newspaper layers and opened up brown grocery bags do also.
My car trunk is about a third full of donations right now. To conserve on gas, I always wait until it's full or overflowing to take donations.

Yes, good idea...and put the donate box with stuff into your car trunk immediately, then give it to thrift shop or salvation army, etc.

Some cities have cardboard drop off dumpsters. I can’t tell you how many people in my community did not know about it.
Some people think it's worthwhile to make your home a beautiful and meaningful place. A launch pad and a place e of respite
