  • Predicting the future is seldom a sure thing but that didn''t stop Rupert, Ralph and Terence in this trialogue at Esalen back in '92. Many of the issues they discuss remain unresolved today, long past the turn of the millennium and 2012.
More Trialogues are available on Rupert's website:
    www.sheldrake....
What is the nature of the political and social world that we should construct for ourselves and for our children? The problem of future-phobia within our society. How can society be reconstructed and improved? The crisis in values in our society. The incompatibility of capitalism and democracy. The need for intervention. Rethinking the notion of freedom. Could the idea of the eschaton be working against change? The need for leadership with positive guiding visions. Where will the new positive vision come from? What could trigger the next major shift? The return to local communities. A native peoples' intervention. The danger of pretending that catastrophe is not probable. What kind of miracle could help avert catastrophe? The need for mathematical models to aid environmental and economic interventions.
Electronic feudalism. Terence's view on and the fractionalisation and feudalisation of the world. The dangers of materialism. The need for the empowerment of women worldwide. The resurgence of shamanic practice. The need for social transformation and a vision on the mythological level. A way to achieve zero population growth. The psychedelic revival in England. The need for a collective vision quest. Entheogens and religion. The post-catastrophic world society. Crisis will force change. What is the true mission of humanity? Questions and answers: The eschaton as eraser of boundaries. 2012.

I recently got into McKenna’s lectures on RUclips.
This vid here is by far the most underwhelming, and steeped in some questionable talking points that too often seem to align with the nefarious aspects of globalism at present. In other talks he is warmer, more generous of spirit, more open, and the ideas more cogent.
Perhaps his trickster aspect was more activated when presenting with others, acting as a foil.
Of course it’s still interesting to hear from Ralph and Rupert and generally have a record of such talks from this era, the early 90s.
If this vid were my first time hearing Terence I likely would have not listened to him any further.
I suggest looking elsewhere if this comment resonates with you.
His work on alchemy provides food for thought, and I remain tremendously grateful that we have access to archives of his talks…

I love Sheldrake's sense of humour. How he talks about "the discovery of Christopher Columbus by native Americans" and 20 minutes left to come up with a unifying theme for a revolutionary movement. That's hilarious. Humour aside, these trialogues are invaluable. This is the kind of dynamics that can materialize out of psychoactive substance use, a far cry from the establishment's portrayal of drug users. This is truly representative of the potential of the community when the energy is channelled constructively.

One of the defining characteristics of shamanism is transformation and in this way comedians who turn tragedy into comedy are shamans, so too are authors, musicians, artists, and actors. It is the failure to transform and to understand the process of transformation that stagnates ideas in the minds of the military and political among us.
And I think it is necessary to explain that we (as humans) do not fully understand the cell's inability to regenerate over time, making each of us mortal and therefore limited.
If you drop acid, take DMT or use other mind expanding drugs and/or techniques, you will come to the conclusion that while you are an all-knowing, all-powerful being, you do have to ''come back to earth'' and crawl along your own path like the ants you observe at your feet.
Take heart, this is the way.
*When Terrance says that society's breakdown is upon us, that we're suffering the apocalypse now, what does he expect? The universe is an un-simultaneously experienced phenomena, it's creating and destroying itself all the time. Whether or not we're paying attention to it.

Terrance's ideas about virtual life showed his keen insight on the rise to society living a large portion of their conscious life on cell phones and the internet, perhaps this will be the trend of the future to society living more virtually. Also, his comments about the third world being in an apocalyptic state ring true, which will be played out even more with the future horrors of the climate crisis and their effect on the third world. So, it wasn't as soon as he expected but it will happen within the next two or three coming decades.

12:26 images are not harmful in of themselves - they merely reflect what a person can't see in themselves - they light a fire. This fire separates the subtle from the gross, by allowing (and because media is ubiquitous in today's society) forcing people to look inwards - to face reality, to grow closer to self.
It is this process that allows an escape from what would otherwise be stagnation and endless scapegoating. It is a flame that was lit a long time ago, a process we are each born into and undergo.

long term planning for humanity has to always include security and spirituality, otherwise it's almost guaranteed to fail.
a system where every single human contributes the most by doing what they good at and excited about, a good educational system can help us determine what people are really good at instead of training them for office work.
soul work is also important and can be the spiritual aspect, it wouldn't exactly work in the way of effective systems but the way of cohesion and happiness of the people. ( if science could reasearch these aspects of the human experience we would go a long way)
because seemingly spiritual aspects become tangible and understood and therefore science instead.

It's not in error if you consider a broader schedule and effect. His mention of "slow apocalypse" hints to this. He theorizes on a transformation, the duration of which is undetermined. As a fan of scale and the fractal, I'm tempted to use the analogy of being sick. Many illnesses are contracted and begin their process long before the body shows the effect.

I recently got into McKenna’s lectures on RUclips.
This vid here is by far the most underwhelming, and steeped in some questionable talking points that too often seem to align with the nefarious aspects of globalism at present.
If this vid were my first time hearing Terence I would have not listened to any further.
      I suggest looking elsewhere.
His work on alchemy provides food for thought…
