Capturing a Manta Ray and Whale Shark in one picture would make any photographer proud. I like the way he talks and uses intelligent words. Great video.
They shouldn't freak you out. They can be quite shy sometimes. They only feed on krill and as mentioned, don't have a barb so they are completely harmless. Their size can be intimidating but they won't show any signs of aggression to humans and if they feel threatened they will disappear in the blink of an eye with one contraction of their awesome wings
I always forget these things exist. It's hilarious how we search and search for alien life when animals like the manta ray are a perfect staple of that alien aesthetic. They're too awesome and beautiful.
Manta rays are truly awesome, they are my favorite animals ! And not hey don't. Manta rays are completely harmless, they don't even eat meat. Some find them scary, I find them extreeemely gorgeous! And yeah, they're soso different from stingrays
I second both Justin and kaleyali's comments. Just got back from snorkeling with a manta in Hawaii and found this amazing video. In another life I would have had his job... ;-)
Actually this is probably at the Hanifaru Lagoon in Baa Atoll in the Maldives. Thats the best place in the Maldives to see large numbers of Mantas during the plankton bloom. Dr Andrea Marshall just had some similar footage from that lagoon on a BBC special that was on the other night.
I went snorkeling for an entire week at BSA florida seabase in the florida keys, it was fucking awesome! I swear to god that I saw a manta ray while I was down there, I checked up on it and one of the few places mantas are seen is in the florida keys! It was really crazy, we were at the complete edge of our dive area, and I looked into the water to see this giant ghostlike manta swim in from my 10 oclock, it was really awesome, but then it made a turn hand headed back, I got a great look at it!
Dunno, maybe I was down to fuck..? Big props to you for replying to a comment that was posted almost a year ago. I'm actually in my first year of studying sharks and stingrays now. ;)
i think it's pretty lame that he was reading an over-dramatic script and tried to pass it off as a spontaneous recount of his trip. that kind of killed what would otherwise have been a decent video had it had more footage of the animals and less footage of him faking it into the camera. zero stars people. zero stars.

This is where I'm going to be next week...can't wait!!
How regrettable it is to seeing those phenomenal and astonishing creatures disappear from illegal hunting for foolish reasons.

Nice vid.
It's happening right now!!! 150 mantas in Hanifaru bay today!!

i dont know if some people realize manta rays are actually really nice if they know your not gonna hurt them.
I don't know why, but I feel a need to feed the Mantaray...
:-) nice
If it really tastes like chicken then you just have said we do not need to eat Mantas. Just eat a chicken and it will taste the same. right????
I love manta rays!
Why not show videos? Why still photos after another?
One hopes that the big yellow rectangle in the corner of the video itself may have been a clue.
1;48 insane iscape epic
Omg, I was in the Maldives on the holidays....
Video of the human, still-shots of the sea creatures...WTF National Geographic?
cool
It's not censorship, it's just marketing. They'll air the videos in the other countries eventually. And there is no 'system' out to get you.
Are those manta rays or mobula rays a smaller cousin that looks identical.
They dont bite
They are friendly
look at the whale shark in the backround :O
you like the way he uses intelligent words?!
I can't understand why this is going on when you can see some even longer clips from NG. Must be the new retooling that RUclips is doing.
how big do they get?
We have our own culture music "Bodu Beru" it's very ill feeling that you using Indian music with in.
Sadly, the Maldives are disappearing...the sea levels are arising...
i wish i could have done that
wow . nice . but hey , this place was definitely not discovered by this Guy . and the island is not called hannifarru.
protect the seas!!!
Manta rays are actually made of gummi candy, no one wants you to know that though.
@Mamboleo1995 They sure don't ;)
Manta rays have no need to defend themselves because of their size so there is no need for a barb like a Stingray
Dunno, maybe I was down to fuck..? Big props to you for replying to a comment that was posted almost a year ago. I'm actually in my first year of studying sharks and stingrays now.
